My friend is in pain now. She lost their house. Just this afternoon there was big fire in their neighborhood. I can't imagine the other families who are the victims of the tragedy. This year, i think there are many fire incident happened already and i am so afraid it might happen to us. I can't imagine that kind of accident. Three months ago, I woke up at about 3am because I heard the siren and thanked God it was far from my house and the fire put out within 20 minutes. How would the people prepare for this kind of accident? My friend lost everything.

My heart goes to your friend. It is really tragic to be victims of fire. But at least they survived from it. The things they lost can be found again. Last March 2010, our neighbor's two-storey house was on fire. The house is right in front of us. I was really scared but I did not panic. The fire is already eating the upper portion of the house when I saw it. I turned off our main switch, my husband drove our car out from the garage. We put our "emergency bag" in the car and we see to it that our daughters are also secure inside. He parked it in a safe place and secure our house. The fire did not spread to other houses but our neighbor lost everything. This happened around 6 pm in the evening and the fire was finally controlled about 9 pm. We asked them to spend the night with us. We also gave them clothes that they needed. It was good that their relatives and other neighbors helped them as well. It is good to be prepared always. My husband and I have this "emergency bag" where we put important documents on it and other important things so that it would be easy to carry it during incidents like that.

The emergency bag is a really great idea!!! I know a lot of fire fighters who do what they can to save people, houses, and belongings. Too often they can't save everything. No one wants to go through anything like that, but being prepared makes it so much easier to deal with!!!

Thanks! Most people living there are poor and they will become poorer because of the accident. I am so worried about the children. How will they live comfortably? I'll donate some clothes and stuffs and food for them. I feel so sad.

I understand how it goes when a family loses their home in a fire. I am a volunteer with the Red Cross Disaster Action Team and I respond to incidences like that. In fact last Monday I went and helped a household that had a fire. I felt bad that I couldn't do anything more than to put them in a motel for two nights and give them some money for food and clothes. I think they expected more. Just out of curiosity, where do you live? Do you have insurance? I know that once I get into an apartment, I'm going to get renters insurance to help with replacing any material items that might be lost in a fire. In order to prepare for this kind of accident, you might want to make copies or scan important documents or pictures and save them in your email or something so that if you lost your home and the actual physical documents you can still have the memories and the documents. You can also make sure you have an emergency kit of some kind that you can grab on your way out. I just hope that it never happens to you or me.

That's very sad. Where in the philippines had fire? Were there many houses burned? Do you know the cause of it. Sometimes fire was started by children who play matches or lighter or candles.

I live in Cebu city. I guess many families were affected. I don't know exactly what cause the fire but people are blaming the wires and overcharging of cell phones. I don't know but the last time we had a fire accident near my house caused by overcharged cell phones. It exploded and resulted to a big fire.

tess-quinain: I am really said about the plight of your friend. These things are interesting to reaad. But when they confront one, I am sure most of us will be shattered to pieces. Let us pray that such a thing will not happen again. That is human life. We do not know what is going to happen the next minute. In spite of this we are proud of ourselves and we treat some people rudely. I am very sad. God will guide the affected families properly to come out of the problems.

Yes, right. May God guide them and help them to rebuild their dreams and life. These are one of the challenges that would help them to be strong. I just hope this accident will not happen again.

Sorry to hear about your friend, and loosing their house. This would not be a good experience and something I have actually always feared myself. When you work so hard to have something, and then something tragic like this happens, it does make you wonder why. But this would also be a time of Prayer and seeking out for help from others Trusting and believing God to get your thru.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your friend. Just try to be careful all the time, that would help a lot to prevent dangerous things from happening. Placing all your important things (birth certificate, school diploma, passport, etc. ) in one envelope or bag is also a must, that way you can just grab the envelope or bag when needed. Also, always pray to God for your safety.

When it happen we can't do nothing to stop it. That is why you need to cover yourself with life insurance so when things like this happen in the future at least there is something to cover the things that we have lost. We can't never expect thing like this happen in our life so we need to take precautions.

Oh my, this is so sad. I'm sorry to hear this sad incident on your friend's house. It's really very tragic losing everything. I know it's hard to start from the start again. But I do wish that your friend can recover soon from the incident and will find a new place to live. Accident like this brings really a big problem. I do wish their government will be able to give assistance to the victims of fire especially to your friend.

I'm sorry about your friend Tess. A fire is worse than a flood because in floods some things are salvageable. In fires, everything goes to ashes. Preparations? I usually have all my documents in one envelope and I make sure they have photocopies kept somewhere else so in cases that the originals get lost, it wouldn't be as difficult to retrieve authenticated copies. We have a small house, so stuff are at a minimal. If I could afford for all my stuff to go portable, I would. I don't even have a TV in my room or at the living room. Prevention is always better than cure. Always be wary of electrical sparks. Sometimes little sparks in the wiring is already a sign that the wiring system may go haywire anytime. Appliances except refrigerators should always be unplugged if not in use. When purchasing electronic devices, go for brand. Don't rely on cheap rip-offs. Those items usually skip quality check which is why they are sold cheap. Share, if you have old clothes and old stuff you no longer use, share em, give em to the less fortunate. Less items in a house means bigger chances of putting out a fire.

i feel sorry for your friend, you are right many such incidents have occurred this year, God save us all from such incidents. Fire turns every thing into ashes. One such event happened very close to my house, the whole building was burnt, still there are traces, I was wondering what about important documents etc.. but then i thought nothing is more precious than life, if one is saved, he/she should thank God.

I am sorry to hear about the loss. It is very difficult to lose everything. A few years ago, my brother-in-law's sister lost her house and all of her belongings in a fire. Thankfully, they had insurance to pay for the house to be rebuilt and purchase new belongings. The saddest part is the things that can't be replaced. My husband and I have talked about this several times. Of course the most important thing is to make sure all of the people are safe. Unfortunately we have so many things that couldn't be replaced!! Pictures that his aunt painted, my grandmother's scrapbook, furniture that belonged to family members, pictures of our own adventures... I can't even imagine going through all of that! I hope your friend has a lot of love and support to get through this. As devastating as it is, the important thing is she is alive and has good friends like you to help her through!

I am so sorry to hear how much in pain your friend is feeling right now. For this kind of incident it is difficult to really know how to prepare but we should always do something to prevent it. But we should keep in mind that it is important to keep in one place all important documents and all the members of the family should know where these documents are being kept. Hope that helps.
