Why do you feel happiness comes from giving?

I think when we give of ourselves, our time, effort, energy, and resources to others it makes us feel good. We know that we have benefited others. Most people enjoy helping others and when we do this it brings us happiness. Individuals who are constantly only thinking of themselves, what they can get out of life and have no concern for others most of the time they are not happy. I like to help others out. Helping others in seemly small matters is just as beneficial as helping ones with big things.

For me when I give of my time to help others I feel best when I know that what I am doing is something that the person is unable to do because of circumstances. One of the thing my family does is we take a monthly food box to a group home because the residents are on a very limited income and the amount of money for food is very limited. Our food box provides meat for a couple of meals, a few nicer things to enjoy during the month, it allows the workers to use the money more effectively. It also provides a treat or special desert for the residents that they do not normally get. I have also taken food boxes to some people and all they do is complain because I am not giving the best. I rarely go back to them. When I give I want it to be appreciated and used. That is what makes me feel good about what I do.

I think that generally, we feel happy when we give someone something, whether it's an object or just assistance, because we feel the satisfaction of knowing that you might be helping someone make their life easier, or making someone smile. It's being able to know that one small, good deed that you did can go a long way in someone's life. I enjoy it when others give to me, and I especially enjoy it when I give to others. I think that this cycle of caring and giving is really necessary to be able to enjoy life and just be happy.

I also believe that doing these things does cause us to be able to enjoy our life and be happy. It really makes my day if not my week when I get a gift. I got a gift for one of my friends for helping me last month with my daughter and I haven't been able to give it to her yet because she doesn't live in the same area as I do. So when she comes in town which will be soon I plan to give it to her. I know she will be so excited and I will be happy to see her smile.

When we give it will make us happy and we all know that to give is the golden value we did to our fellow men. This is what the Lord says always love you neighbor and they are the needy. To love them we must give and we feel happiness inside. I always feel to give especially if i had the graces from above. lets share it to them and God will give us full in return.

Yes there truly is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving. And the Bible says that God love a cheerful giver. So when we give it's important to be happy and not do things begrudgingly. There are many people in need and it's sad to say that the needs of others are growing everyday. So giving should be something that we think about and see where we can improve.

Real happiness gained in helping others through different ways, kept most to the needy coz sometimes others lead to laziness, they're only depending our helping hands. So we also examined the fact in giving benefits to others and hoping that many individuals who have more resources have a happy heart in extending their help to others.

I agree there are some individuals who would try to take advantage of those who give and just become lazy. Unfortunately I know of individuals such as this and it is very sad. They have no happiness in their life and usually aren't doing much with themselves. It is good to watch out for these individuals so as not to give support or encouragement to their behavior.

I've recently just finished a course in anthropology, in which one of our discussion was about the act of giving. Giving has been done throughout the age of humanity. We discussed in class that giving is a form of trade, there has been no act of giving in history where a person does not expect something in return. This is why in your case, when you gave, happiness is what you received in return. Subliminally, when you give for "free", you expect that other to be happy or yourself to be happy. It is just a natural way. Helping others is a very good deed. Greed has been a major habit or mistake that humans have. Without greed humans would be happy, however we cannot eliminate the idea of greed as it is human nature. So as a person who enjoys helping, continue helping, you are the type of person that balances this world. So I thank you.

Yes it iss very sad that greed fills this world and the affects that it has had on people worldwide. Our earth itself is so amazing to me. It has the ability to purduce enough food for everyone. It is the greed that keeps the food from being distributed equally. As well as the greed that causes pollution, deforestation, and other harmful things to our environment. Giving of others does help us to feel better in our part to do the right thing when so many aren't.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this! Why become so negative that can affect your friends and family around you, when you can be so much more happy. Giving up time and effort for other people are always rewarding in the end, because you helped them attain that goal and maybe, in due time, they'll pay you back, with interest. Humans always have good in them, some just show more so than others :D. Cheers~

It is so much better to give. It really affects our life and the way we view it. I think giving helps us to be more appreciative of our family, friends, and our life. We come to see that we shouldn't be the center of the world nor focus solely on our problems. When we help others with their problems it puts the right perspective of ours and most of the time our problems can be considered insignificant compared to others.

Helping other people is a good deed everyone should have. Being helpful don't only mean being happy for doing it but also the good Lord will be very much happy to know it. I don't know what happen to the world if there will be no helpful people around. When you help you save someone from their problems. You make them feel there's still hope no matter what they've been through. For me,I love helping people especially people I hardly know. That way it really comes from the heart. I don't expect them to thank me. I am just happy doing it. It's such a nice feeling. As long as the Lord will give us blessings we will be able to help other people no matter how small, materially, spiritually or morally.

Yes I agree with you there are many ways that we can help people. A lot of the time people think of money and that they may not have that much to give. But we don't have to just give material there are different ways we can give. It does feel really good knowing that we help others and that we are pleasing God.

Helping others gives us real happiness. It makes us more socialize, more responsible. We help more people it means more people comes in our social circle. It definitely makes us happier. We feel that we have done something good for society. It makes us to feel like more socialize. Society is to make us more happy.

I think it's a real joy to be around those who help others. If we are willing to give others more people will difinitely want to be around us because we are kind and caring individual. It's nice to have friends and if we want more friends help others and we will quickly gain more.

It feels good when we can help ones emotionally or financially. Emotional issues can be big and lead to depression. Helping someone with this is a big deal because we always want to be encouraging to such individuals. It always seems like anyone could use a little extra money and when we are able to provide it that makes us feel awesome. I know that their are individuals who volunteer their time in great ways. I love helping these ones financially because I know that they are sacrificing their time to help others and so this means limited income for them.

You're right about that; it;s great to give to others and remember the small things and joys in life. I just finished watching a Biography on Paul Newman and his commitment to worthy causes and the one he started; Hole in the Wall and when I am able, I would like to help out there or any other worthy cause so people who haven't had the advantages we've had can enjoy some degree of life.

I think most of the time we take for granted how good we have it until we see programs such as this. Then it really hits home on how we should be helping out others when we are able. I greatly appreciate my life and that I'm able to help others. We really do have good lifes for the most part compared to others and want they are experiencing.

hi:) maybe because when we give we can know the heartwarming experience of making someone else feel valued and appreciated. Be it for a birthday, anniversary, or just-because you like to give, gift giving always feels good for the receiver and mostly to the giver when they saw that it's highly appreciated. as for me the "it's better to give than to receive" quotes is true, because I feel more joy when I give and see the receiver so happy, that's the most valued feeling for me.

Yeah, I feel so thrilled when I see how happy I have made another person when I was able to give them a gift or help them out in some way. It really brings a great deal of joy to my heart. I like giving gifts and helping others. I often find something to give or get for someone. When I think of something I would like to do for someone my husband says "I wish you would buy me something or give me money." Which he is the person that get stuff for more than anyone. But it just shows that he sees that I'm really trying to do something for other people and to make it a regular habit.

I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. It is very important that we live our lives to help others. Those who are selfish and always only think of themselves usually find themselves unhappy. But when we give of ourselves this makes others happy and we ourselves are happy.
