Online purchase, my bad experience

I am always in favor of, ‘See the product, Test yourself, Bargain, Check warranty/guarantee Conditions, confirm for after sell service facilities’; before buying any product for my personal or family use.
We see so many ads about online shops (they call it e-shop, Sky shops), in TV, newspapers, magazines, even door to door venders tell you to place orders using their mobile phone.
Honestly speaking I was tempted and placed order for a famous brand of mobile phone, with 3G, touch screen facilities; the price was 20% less than the price in my city. I paid the price ‘online using my BANK ACCOUNT’
I got the product delivered at home; BUT I was surprised to see, it didn’t have the 3G, touch screen facilities, not even dual camera.
The ‘user’s manual’ that came with it, however didn’t show existence of 3G, touch screen facilities.
I checked the website of this cell phone, for the particular model, it showed having the 3G, touch screen facilities.
After talking to the customer care of this online shop, now I have been advised to return the product, I am assured of REFUND after deduction of expenses, but I doubt, I may not get at all. I am cheated no doubt.
Here 2 things come to my mind, why the website will show, features, which are not present in the model?
Why the on-line shop will sell such products?
Is it kind of tying hands together for cheating?
What is your view?
Do you buy from shops or online?
I am not disclosing the name of the shop for evident reasons.
Please share your good as well as bad experience and comment. Thanks in advance.

Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Hi friend,
I don´t usually buy online and I have had 2 different experiences.
The first time was this year when I bought a swimming suit to go to Aruba. I think that the reason I did not have any problem was because I bought it at one of the best bathing suits makers in the world. They were very expensive, but I take care of them and they last many years.
The second and last experience was with a sort of hat and scarf I bought last month. They said I would have them in my hands in 2 weeks and it took one month to arrive. The picture was better than the actual thing and as I had already solved my problem by knitting caps to hide my lack of hair, I don´t use it much.
But in the second case I would not call it cheating. They were not up to my expectatins: that was all.
Have a lovely weekend.

Though there are several places that will rip off their buyers, I've had almost all positive experiences with purchases that I've made online. I've purchased from some of the well-known retailers and I've also purchased from smaller retailers and the only bad experience that I've ever had was a purchase of a service online that went under just a few days after I paid for the subscription. I bought my DSLR camera and lenses online and they've been perfect.
Before I make an online purchase, I do always make sure to check consumer reviews on the product and the company to make sure that everything looks right.

I have also bad experience from online purchase. I have purchased many items from online store. One of the site is indiatoday.com and other is ebay.com. I agree that I have some good collection of music and all are from indiatoday.com. But one day they did not delivered all the items as per my order. I wrote several time but in vain. Now I stop to purchase from them.
Another one is ebay. I purchased one mobile from them. ebay announced one 2 GB Pen drive as free gift. The offer was in October'2010. And I am till waiting for the Pen Drive.

Hello Papa!
I am sorry you were cheated with your purchase. Online stores do this because they know many online customers will not return and or fight back and so they make out each time. This is sad how they persist on scamming people. I have shopped online years ago, but not recently and have usually have had fairly good experiences.
Last year I purchased to save some money for some ink toners for my printer, though I checked out the reviews I was sent empty tanks. I was so upset and contacted the company right away and they did send me a label to send the tanks back for a full refund. I must say they handled every thing professional but wonder if many do not complain they easily earn this way.
Have a great Sunday!

They do that because they know many people will be ashamed of being cheated and will not return the product. If they do, the expenses they have to pay will many times discourage them from completing the return process. They know that 90% of their buyers will keep the product!
I always pay with a credit card so I can dispute the charges. If you don't have a credit card you might consider an online service like PayPal that allows you to dispute charges.
Also, now that you've given your bank account number, watch carefully for unauthorized withdrawals and expenses. A dishonest company like this will no doubt try to debit your account for small amounts--they do this to so many that they make millions each year with small debits.

dear professor,
an officemate had a bad experience too. he had sent some fashion jewelries to someone he is courting but the item that reached his girl to be, was below standard hence it was embarrassing on his part. and he paid big money.
thea wants a doll she saw online for her birthday and some chocolates. but i said to her i would rather give cash if i have it rather than purchase online.
it is very difficult to complain when it is online and the service surely is very poor. it is cheating in a way i should say.

hello dada,
I have same experience with online purchase.
My daughter once purchased a limited edition of her favorite band's souvenir.
She ordered a Large size HOODIE with logo of her favorite band.
Now when the item arrives, it's a Small size and the quality is not worth the price..
It costs almost US$60 ,but the quality is very poor
I did not mind returning it, since my daughter never like it to be returned and she doesn't want to wear the hoodie, she just want to keep it as souvenir because it's a limited edition.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY again and advance HAPPY BIRTHDAY to maa...

Like you professor, i also have a bad experience of shopping online. The dress was beautiful on the net but when it arrives, it's not the material that i perceived it to be. I returned it, hoping that i would get my money back. But it never came back.
From then on, i never bought anything online again.
Like you said i now have this motto ion buying, "see the products, test, feel and check the warranty " . Besides, i can readily return it had i not been satisfied with it.
