Old classic television made back in the 60s and 70s seem better than today.

I really enjoy the old classic westerns like they made in the 60s and 70s like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Virginian. Why can't they make a good western t.v. show today? I liked the old family shows like The Walton's and Little House on the Prairie. It just seemed like entertainment was better in those days. What do you think?

That's because it was better back then. I think the start of 90210 timeing was when it all started to take a dump into trash. Back in the day...shows were about themes, lessons, problems taken care of, family issues, fun, funny, laughing, enjoyable, and all shows had a theme and purpose. Now a days....they are all about crime, killing, s*e*x and who's the daddy and who's living with whom and sleeping with whom. Good grief, I see the previews of the new show called PanAm...about being a stewardess back in the day... I thought it might be a good one, but the previews didn't end before they show that it is half centered around s*e*x and cheating and all. Seems like they can't do a show unless that is in the forefront. I mean, all the doctor shows and police shows....out of 40 minutes of show time...20 is of the actual story, the other 20 is nothing but the trashy crap having absolutely nothing to do with the show or the theme of it. I don't watch much tv anymore but shows on the food network and history etc. And of course TVLand and my wonderful "library" of box sets of shows from the 60's, and 70's and a few from the 80's. People these days don't know what they are missing. Watching TV...family nite... used to be so much fun in my family.... these days...you can't even let kids watch tv alone...you have to be there to mute, FF or plain shut it off.

That's what I think also. Even shows like M.A.S.H. based around a war was good television. The old shows were better. They use to make a lot of animal series like Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Flipper, Gentle Ben and The Littlest Hobo. I loved those shows growing up and so did my kids.

I hear you. I just found a channel on cable TV that plays all the old shows from back in the day, including the old westerns. I am watching the Honeymooners right now! Later I think Hogans Hero's is on, which was my dad's favorite show.

Those were good shows also. The Honeymooners packed more entertainment into that one room set than new ones can do with all kinds of back drops. My uncle loved Gunsmoke so much that when ever I see a rerun of that show today I think of him. I wish they still made a good western.

definitely so. Then everything seems to be more real and true. Now the technologists in the world there are so many things as fictional characters and cartoons. long time ago was not the case. It was all part of reality. Have a nice day!

Even the violent parts were not near as bad in the old films as they are in some today.
