Hurricane Irene seems headed full force into the Bahamas and the United States. It seems to be a major storm and capable of doing some real damage to the areas that it hits. Do you live in the path of this storm?
If you do, what are you doing to prepare for the arrival of the storm?
I do not think that I would want to attempt to ride it out as it looks large and scary!

Hi Carol,
Yes, it looks pretty harsh. I live in NH and they are saying that we are going to get slammed hard. I have no where to go so I'm counting on the fact that it will probably lose a lot of strength by the time it hits here. We may get some flooding and I'm concerned more about my daughter who lives right on the river. Have been trying to convince her to bring her baby and boyfriend and stay with me until it passes. I'm on a hill and the last time we got flooded, I got flooded in but was safe and dry...just couldn't go anywhere. I love storms but hurricanes scare me to be honest and floods, well, after the one we had a few years ago, I've gained a new respect for them. People got hurt and a few got killed and many lost their homes.

It seems as though flooding and damage due to the water could be a real issue and so I would really try to get my daughter out of that low area by the river. People need to use a little common sense and follow the things that they are being told. Mother Nature can be a powerful thing!

I hope that you are both okay. I have seen a lot of terrifying pics coming from that area of the country. Irene could have been a lot worse, but God spared many of the people along the coast.

Well, I'm going out in a little bit and I'm stopping by her place and see if I can't convince her to just come to my place. I'm actually just down the road from her but my place sets up on a small hill and is a bit safer. Hers is literally right on the river. I'm hoping she will.

I live in Central Texas and we are dealing with unbearable heat and drought. Today it was 106 degrees. Tomorrow, it will be 108 and Sunday, it will be 107.
But I am originally a Bostonian. We had occasional hurricanes but usually they were milder by the time they reached New England. They had lost some or much of their steam. Still, they could be scary.
I have friends living in Manhattan. And they have been told that they need to evacuate by 5 pm tomorrow. I do not know where they are supposed to go but they had to buy a carrier for their cat today.
Mother Nature is so powerful. It makes you believe. I would not want to be in the path Of Hurricane Irene but I don't want to be in Central Texas either.

We have dealt with high heat and little rain in Indiana too this summer. It has cooled off some, but they are predicting high heat for next week. I wish it would rain both in Texas and here.

Now, I am hearing that it is going to be 110 tomorrow and today will be close to that. I am not going anywhere today except to get a little food. Luckily, I live right next door to a really excellent organic supermarket. Also, this evening after dark, I will take a short evening walk. It is impossible to go out except when absolutely necessary. Central Texas always has terrible summers but not like this. This is one for the books as they say.

Take extra precaustions to stay cool and do not be out in the sun. I know how miserable we were and it was only here for about three weeks. However, they are predicting our temps to be almost 100 again this weekend. I hope this winter is warm like the summer has been.

I would be too scared to ride it out also. I think i would go some place else until it passes through and I can safely return.

I would not ride this one out. It seems that this one is very large and very dangerous. I am hearing that many govenors are declaring state of emergencies already! People need to take the warnings seriously!!

It is headline news here in UK and I would absolutley not like to be in that part of the world right now
It certainly does sound as though there is going to be a great deal of damage in the next few days and my thoughts go out to those who live in the area in whichthe hurricane is directed. Hopefully it will lessen in intensity as the hours pass.

It is headline news here too and you are right that it does seem like it is going to do a lot of damage. I believe that people need to get out of the area!!

If you follow the news, you probably know by now that there have been several casualties from this storm. There is still much flooding and many without power and have been for several days. I think we still need to keep these people in our thoughts.

Thanks goodness no. If I did..all you would see of me was streak getting out of there..lol. Noway I would be staying it out. It looks like it is going to be really bad. I saw there are people that are refusing to evacuate on the news. They are braver than I am.
Take care.

I would be gone too! There is no way that I would stay after seeing the damage that happened in New Orleans and knowing that this one is as big as it is. I think that they are crazy!

Luckily for a lot of people it was not near as bad as it could have been. I do know a lot of people who do not have power, and that is not Fun. Anytime a tropical storm hits that effects all people here in the US or the world that is not good. I know I have seen gas prices raise at least 10 cents here on the West Coast, and cannot imagine what the East coast people are paying right now.

I have a family who lives on the east coast and my husband has a friend that he has known since kindergarten that lives in North Carolina. It is scary. I live in Idaho am lucky that the hurricane will not hit near here. I know that in the winter my husband and I will be preparing for snowstorms (we had one last year righ before Thanksgiving). At the end of September we will be going to Sams club to stock up on canned goods and water.

I have friends who are near there too and I am worried about them. I hope that things aren't as bad as they look. I think that it is going to be a really bad storm and may do more damage than the one in New Orleans.
