Is eating watermelon good for you?

I had always heard that, while watermelon is tasty, it has little in the way of nutritional value, other than being a diuretic. However, a friend recently mentioned that watermelon is one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Does anyone know what the health benefits of watermelon are? Since my kids love watermelon, it would be great if they are getting lots of benefit from it, too!

watermelon is good for kidneys friend.
I also give my kids a watermelon, they love it.
Give your children it is useful and thus get my hands on because watermelon contains no harmful substances in them.
nice day!

Thanks! I knew watermelon was a natural diuretic, so it makes sense that it would be good for your kidneys. We'll keep eating it, for sure!

I really don't know either but I have heard the same. I do like a little watermelon once in a while...but for some reason it seems to give me an after taste that I don't really like...anyway..at least eating a little is good for you and at least it is healthy!

Hhmmm. . .maybe your body has an intolerance to it? My husband has begun developing allergies to some fruits, after years with no problems. I like it, especially in the summer. I do try and have my family eat a wide variety of fruits and veggies, but some (like watermelon) are easier to get them to eat than others. So if it does have a lot of nutritional benefits (which apparently it does) then so much the better, since we eat more of it than some other fruits!

I know some people do eat the rind, and I have had it (pickled in a sweet sauce, which clearly reduces the health benefits). I don't expect the kids to worry about the nutritional value, but, as the mom, I tend to think about things like this. . .

Watermelon contains a lot of water. Water is very important in our body because it washes toxin. It excretes toxins through our kidneys. It is a very good fruit to prevent skin dryness. It is a good source of vitamins and minerals.
