Spam blog comments are discouraging

Today I decided it was time to moderate my accumulated blog comments. I had to take a break because it was so discouaging. I have a lot of visitors who seem to leave generic comments -- or maybe software puts them there. I know such software exists because I've read lenses as a Squidoo angel that advertise such software to automatically leave blog comments. This makes me think that some people may get paid by someone to leave comments, but who would pay except the blog owner? I have never offered to pay anyone for comments. Do these people leaving these comments think they will ever be read by anyone but the comment moderator?
What's really discouraging today is that someone went through every one of my blog posts on a couple of different blogs and left individual comments for almost every paragraph. I have to read everyone of these before I delete it to make sure I'm not deleting a real comment. Do people really think they will get my business with this spam they leave? Or do they think I will let it pass and someone else will see it?

My guess is that they think by leaving a comment, you will then visit their site. Perhaps they want to get any extra traffic for their own site or blog -- even if that means leaving generic comments. It bugs me too when I see comments left by people who didn't seem to read a word I typed

I rarely ever have this problem as my blog doesn't get read much. I find that the comments that I get are usually important to what is being discussed. I would hate to do that to someone but then again there are people out there that just want to leave comments that really do not pertain to anything.

It's my blogs that are read the least that get most of this spam.

Does your blogging programme not have a spam filter which weeds these out? I use WordPress, which is very effective at doing so. I haven't yet had a spam post land in my inbox, or a genuine post land in my spam.
I check the spam box occasionally to be on the safe side, and it does astonish me that they bother taking the time to write these and send them as they're so obviously spam that I can't imagine that any sensible blog owner would allow them to be published. Of course, there are companies which pay you to post on blogs, but you would think they would at least try to be relevant.

I get spammy comments on my Wordpress and Triond accounts too, so I always look at them, and if I don't like it, I delete it. I haven't had too much spam so it's a relief.
