Mum Will Be Working In Another School

Yes, folks, the nice Headmaster at Boundary, the school she worked for years and years DOESN'T WANT HER BACK! The reason? Well, a lot of changes are being made to the way the kitchen works and he wants new blood in there to implement them. Apparently, what the Headmaster wants, he gets, so the people in "the office" have their hands tied. This goes with every school, not just Boundary. However, Mum is being moved to a school called Beacon. Changes have already been made there and the age ranges of the kids are from Reception to Seniors. Her hours AREN'T being cut as expected, she can work from 8am as opposed to 7.15 plus the fact she can walk to Beacon, as it's even closer than Boundary is. A very nice friend of hers out of "the office" called Julie will be showing her how to use all this new expensive equipment in the kitchen, on the cleaning days..Friday and Monday. Granted, Mum is upset about the initial rejection BUT at least the people from "the office" have gone out of their way to find her something nearby. She's even getting a new uniform as hers is "falling to bits" as she explained to her boss. She's managed to wangle an extra year on top of the two she wants so I'm really pleased about this. As for her friend Debbie..she hasn't heard a thing about Boundary and I've got an awful feeling she never will although she is contracted to work 2 hours a day, something she won't like but may have to take if nothing else is available. What do you think about Mum's new role? I reckon it will suit her as it's a fact that the staff at Boundary could be a bit awkward at times. She will have no such problems at Beacon.

This sounds like a good move for your mom after all the problems she had to get her job back. I am looking forward to further updates on how she does!

Aww thanks. Well, the first one will be on Friday night when I ring her up. She will let me know what the new place is like and how she gets on with the new equipment in there.

This guy needs to be taught a lesson. Isnt there anyone higher up that they can go to to complain about how he runs his school? Dont you hate it when some boss want naive people to work for them......sure says a lot about them, doesnt it? Ive always felt its best not to be working for that type of people.

I hope this is a good opportunity for her. Yeah, I don't like it when they want "new blood" in the work place and boot you out instead of training you just as they'd have to train the newbies anyway. I don't believe in that sort of thinking.

The Headmaster in question never even came into the kitchen when Mum was working in there so I guess he won't change his habits for a "newbie" as you put it. If it all goes pear-shaped at Mum's old school then the Headmaster is to blame. Age shouldn't come into whether or not someone is capable of doing a job but the Headmaster seems to think so. I reckon Mum will do just fine at the new school. She's better off out of it.

She's actually at yet another school from next week (and it would take too long to explain why on here) but she's cool about it so therefore, I am too!

A rejection will always sting, but like you say, at least they made effort to put her in a better situation. I hope I could be as busy as your mum, when I'm old-er too. I would appreciate the work, and the feeling of being productive all the time.

Well, tomorrow she will tell her bosses that she's NOT prepared to clean for 2 hours a day. She's been mislead about this (as she told them she doesn't want to work in the Senior School..and guess where the cleaning is..) so I shall keep you all posted about further developments. Even if those 2 hours are cut each day it's better than cleaning. She is a cook after all!

Well I would look at that as a good thing. Working closer to home is always a great thing. She will have slight different hours, thats oak also. I think she should forget the old school that she worked and concentrate on the newer job she has. I think she will be fine and it will all work out for her. She seems to be the kind of person that can figure it out. She also seems to conform well. Remember, a job is just a job, it will never be anything more then that. So, looking at it that way, she will get through day by day. At least she has an income, thats always a good thing.

That's very true, which is the reason why she actually NEEDS to carry on working. It's brilliant she now has an extra 3 years in a kitchen that won't tax her too much. That may sound patronising but if you think about it..the old kitchen will be far more hectic with all the changes that are about to take place and I can guarantee the girls there won't like it one bit..so expect fireworks! Now that Mum is out of that environment she can take her mind off it by learning the new job. Also, there will be a new set of kids to get used to, something she always likes whenever it's a new term. I will let you all know how she gets on anyway..I'm confident she will be fine.

Nice. Tell mom that we all are rooting for her to enjoy her new job and that we are all thinking about her.

I imagine since she had to fight so hard for a place there might have been hard feelings at the old place anyway. It sounds as if this move is all for the better. It is easier to learn new things in a new place anyway.

I agree, especially when one of the nicer ladies in the office will be helping her out. I like that idea and it will ease Mum into the job.

I am glad all in all that she will be able to continue working. This does sound like it is much more convenient as far as distance. She has been doing this for so long I am sure she will adapt very fast to the new changes. In fact she will be teaching a thing or two so I am sure she will be loving it.

Yes, I've told her to embrace the new job as it won't be as hectic as the old place..plus the fact the changes have already been implemented, so she just has to learn how to use the new equipment and that's it really. I'm excited for her!

It is better for your Mum to be at Beacon.Even though she is unfamiliar with the place and the people, but she has ease of mind getting out of the way of the stuff at Boundary who jockey for position, much more it is closer than Boundary is.
