When you don`t have self esteem, you don`t like who you are, therefore you can easily end up adapting yourself to your partner wishes, like, opinions, interest, etc. The other person may find it great to have found someone who share exactly the same interest but in the long run, he/she will realize that its actually a clone living by his/ her side

Self-esteem definitely affects a relationship. It means you don't accept the compliments your partner gives you, which can frustrate them. You feel like you don't deserve them/you can't see why they stay with you, so you worry about them leaving, which makes them feel like you don't trust them. Etc etc. When you add in all the problems you mentioned as well, it definitely can be a huge problem for a relationship.

I think that self esteem is critical in a relationship because people need to feel good about themselves in order to feel good about being with someone else. You can't have fun in a relationship if you don't know who you are and feel good about who you are. It's never okay to be the person that your partner wants to be. Only be who you are and who you want to be!
