To be honest, I've not really bothered applying for jobs lately as I knew I wouldn't be successful, therefore I've been a bit quiet. However, I just HAD to apply after seeing one vacancy in particular as it suits me down to the ground! On perusing the internet I received an email alert from a jobs site called Clickin2jobs and it contained the link showing the vacancy below. It's me all over isn't it guys, especially since I'm 1) HOT on Unions and 2) I've helped fight to keep Mum's job recently and without Union involvement neither of us would've persevered, albeit being Unison rather than the GMB Union, both of which are similar. The salary and hours are awesome and there are benefits to being in the GMB Union, therefore I've emailed my CV forthwith! Whaddya think of it? http://www.clickin2jobs.co.uk/SearchResults/secretary-329445834.aspx?jobId=329445834&list=SearchResultsJobsIds&index=2&querydesc=SearchJobQueryDescription&viewedfrom=1 http://www.gmb.org.uk/home.aspx

GO GIRL GO!! What a great job. If I lived in the UK, Id take it in a flash. I have done some work for my Union when I worked for the Quebec L*quor Board. We had a private union but Ooooh it was FUN!! Its a game they play with the bosses, I'll say this, he'll say that, then I'll say this blah blah. Theres a specific method to deal with bosses and they are Champions at it!!! THUMBS UP (dont you hate that we only have 3 emoticons we can use?) I could have sat for hours listening to our Union President when he made speeches. He was SO good. He would also explain why he said certain things and not other, it was all about timing and getting the other side to look foolish!! Ive learned a lot for the little while I worked with them. Of course, I needed them a lot to come defend me when I was working I was always in trouble but they would send me people and we'd start the game with the bosses.....it really was like a game but a serious one!! Unions are important, nobody can let that disappear. Make sure you let them know how much you believe in Unions to defend the little guy! Oh my, I think I still have it Break a leg Janey and Im sending good energy your way so you get that job!!

I could go on and on about Unions but I see you already have! Thanks my friend. If the GMB Union won't employ someone over 40 then I've no chance of getting ANY job lol.

Why wont they hire someone over 40. Experience is VERY important when you're part of a Union. You let them know that THEY need you, they need your experience and knowledge and they cant function without it

Go for it! You can do it! This is an area that you have skill and passion in, so I think that they would be foolish not to hire you. It is made for you!

Maybe it might be a little bit of a disadvantage, but that does not mean that you do not have the skills! Just tell them that you have been travelling the world for the last two years! Or that you had a baby 3 years ago and are now returning to work.

I hope the fact I haven't worked for over 3 years won't go against me. Do you think it will?

Emailed CV beamed over, covering email letting them know how I love unions in general..how I've been in one, Mum's in one..I've helped her..her Union's helped her (sort of) and I can't see a young floosy being into Unions as much as me.. We'll see!

Best of luck Janey but then in saying that, the phrase "best person for the job" comes to mind. So you will not need luck

I hope that by now, you've applied for it! My name and my resume is actually on all the job boards in North America. And a few in Asia and Europe. I get regular notifications from all of them of possible job matches, so I've seen a few that are really 'made' for me. I've applied here and there, but no bite so far.

Yes, my CV is all over the internet as well and yes, I have sent it and received a "thank you" email from a person, not something automated, which makes a change! I wish you luck with your job search.

If you have a gut feeling that it is for you, then it may just be. I have not had that feeling in a long time about any job. I hope you get it, it will make you so happy. And now that you are eating right, I bet you have the energy to keep up with anything.

Well, the fact I have more energy now (and my general health has dramatically improved since my exploratory operation last year) means I can actually apply for jobs like these, safe in the knowledge that I won't fall asleep at my desk through lack of energy!

If you have the skills then why not go for it. I used to find that the GMB were consistently one of the best unions to negotiate with and had intelligent national representatives. Some unions employed very unrealistic staff. Good luck.

Well, that's nice to know. John's Union (the name of which escapes me) is one of the worst. Fortunately, it isn't the GMB lol.

hi janey it really sounds like you and that job are made for each other so go get it. best wishes that you get it and love the job that you get. I really hope you do get it as it sounds just great and perfect for you. good jobs let alone great jobs are harder to find now days in most countries. I know the situation here In the US in California is that way. I am retired but if I were younger and in a job of any kind I would really hang onto it as there are so many more out of work than there are jobs for them. I hope this mess finally get straightened out.I do wish our president worked as hard for getting new job here as he does for other countries. lol.

I have seen a job that I really like the look of, and I have been told that if I get a good degree I will be able to take the job and get a rather good salary for it as well. It is writing for a magazine online which is to do with medical psychology. When I am qualified, I will be asked to write one article per issue, which gets released weekly. The article will have to be 1,000 words long and I will be paid $100 for each of the articles. It's nowhere near enough for a full time wage, but I am hoping that they will give me more work when they see what I'm capable of. And, I always have the things that I'm already doing online, so it would indeed appear as though the future is going to be bright for me.

Fabulous girl and go for it. I wish you all the luck as I know what it is like to see an open position with our name written all over it. I do hope that all goes well and that you can come back and say I am working. lol In all honesty sometimes when we are out of work for too long they tend to hire someone who is still working. But do not let that stop you though, because you never know. You can sell your experiences and the want into this job and you may be hired. Best of luck and my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks very much. I know what you mean about people in work finding another job. Hardly seems fair but it's a fact of life as it's actually happened to me in the past, so I can't really complain about it.

Jobs are difficult to get these days. There are a lot of unemployed people around the world. The industrialized countries of europe and america are now being affected. Online business is good but it is not really rewarding. I think we are really facing a great challenge this days.

Yes, you're right. Even people that are in work are finding it impossible to find another job if they so wish. It's not that easy anymore so people who would normally find something whilst still in employment are choosing to stay and be miserable. This is why I am fussy about the type of job I apply for but now and again a "gem" comes along that I just can't resist. Unfortunately, many will apply (even those who don't care that much about Unions) so, hopefully, anyone sifting through the CVs will realise this and pick me lol.
