First week of school is a headache!

We all know after a 3 month break from school it'll take time to get the kinks out. Well, this week the but has been late getting to pick up & drop off my kids by 15-20minutes. Mind you it's under 5min from my house to school but the route is over 30 min long and we are the last pick up and drop off. So you figure other than the short trip to the school they are on the bus approximately 50 minutes for what would be a 5 minute drive if I took them but hey it saves me on gas money not to drive them plus we live by a dangerous intersection so there's no way to safely walk w/o some risk.
Then after we get in the house at nearly 4:30pm, I discover there's a note with it circled that my middle is missing her shoes. HER BRAND NEW GYM SHOES! She said they were in some green something or another in the class room. I hope they are just misplaced as I can't run out and buy a new pair of shoe for what I paid for the ones in question. And of course the teacher are not expected to stay past 4pm so I got a voice mail so I have no idea what's what and I have a 3 day weekend to wonder about them.

My son's bus drove right past him on the first day of school. That afternoon his driver moved his stop to the other side of the street and the other end of the block. His stop is supposed to be at 7:45 am, but his bus driver gets there before 7:30 most mornings. His stop is only 3 houses away, so he can run out the door if he has not gotten out there before then, but still. He has started going out at 7:20-7:25 just to make sure he does not miss the bus. He has been getting home around 4:30pm and his school gets out at 3:30. We live about 5 miles from the school.

Have you called the school or the bus company yet? That makes no sense that the driver is that early unless the driver is skipping stops or? We are a few houses away too. My eldest says they go even further around town than they did last year she claims by a hospital of some sort and they cross the river.

But they should contact you and tell you that... it's only common courtesy!

My son doesn't start back until this Monday and I am then back at work, know the first week will be a bit crazy but we do not have school buses here so it is car in morning to drop on my way to work and walking up to collect him in the afternoon. I hope your daughter gets her gym shoes back on Monday. Huggles. Ellie :D

Me too! I just hope they are misplaced as the teachers and principals will be getting an ear full because they will have to deal with the other shoes she has and lump it! Since they want brand new spanky shoes to not scratch up the gym floor
IMO then they should just wear socks in the gym then!

hi 3snugglebunnies I sure remember that and one thing I will never forget and old as I am it still makes me angry. the school nurse waited two hours to tell me may beI should take my little first grader to the doctor as he was still crying from a fall off the swing and he had cut his lip. she never mentioned it was the corner of his mouth and was a gaping wound!!!!!!! so as my husband was at work with the only car I took a cab, took one look at my little son who was in real pain and had the cab driver take us to my sons's doctor. our doctor when I told him the nurse had not thought it needed a doctor threw u p his hands and cussed,. then he numbed my sons lip and stitched it up with teeny stitches. He had the faintest of scars and it just disappeared in time.that first week of school can be hell on earth as things always seem to gol wrong. Why cannot a teacher stay a few minutes if a child's in trouble, have they no hearts at all? ugh.

How awful! You were lucky your Dr would take care of your son. Nowdays they don't do stitches in office, only the ER does them. And of course it costs a boatload more to go to the ER then to the Dr's office. Seems so silly to me why they can't do anything more now days than assess the sniffles, common infections and physicals.
The teachers are supposed to be there from 8am-4pm. The girls didn't get off the bus til nearly 4:30pm! Mind you they get out at 3:25 and heaven forbid it takes an hour to get home cause they have the "big" bus and drive kids home all over town instead of certain neighborhoods.

Well I sure hope she's able to find her shoes on Tuesday, and hopefully the bus will get itself straightened out soon too. I can't wait to see what sort of troubles we'll have on the first few days of school! Come on Tuesday!!

Yeah and you have kids in 2 diff schools to deal with too. I hope they find those shoes or they are SOL cause I'm not buying junk shoes and when you find them brand name for a steal, they won't be easy to replace for the price I paid.

My kids are in 3 different schools. Our elementary school only goes to 3rd grade.. so the twins are entering middle school, the oldest is entering high school, and then the kindergartener.
Make sure you let us know on Tuesday if they found her shoes!

Oh gosh yes it was a huge headache and I remember clearly. Wow seems like the bus driver does not have a balance on or a good routine. It could also be that the other children and or traffic caused the delays. But daily seems a bit odd to me.
I know it is convenient for the bus drivers to do the driving but anyway you can complain to the school that this has happened. I would probably give it another week though and hope that the routine is much better.
As for her gym shoe, oh my I do hope they find them as I am sure it was expensive and or can be hard on the household budget if you have to get another pair. Try and relax as there is nothing you can do until Tuesday.

I am hoping the routine indeed improves! I know the first week was a mess last year. But my daughter said they have additional stops this year too and in other parts of town. If it doesn't improve I will be calling and having a bird.
Yeah waiting til tuesdays sux! But whatcha going to do? Not only a dent in our budget but the fact I found those shoe for her on PURE LUCK! I can't find a junky pair of shoes for that price for those Fila's I bought.

Haha! yes school's a pain, not only to the child but for the parents as well. I still go to high school, in my senior year now and my dad to drives me to school every morning. H loves it when it's the holidays because he doesn't have to wake up so early and battle against the morning traffic just to get me to school. Every school morning is a pain. Just one more year to go and it's over for me and my poor dad. lol! =)

I used to drive them but the parking at school is horrid it's a giant game of "chicken" and with them on the bus it saves me gas and wear and tear on my car.

The city I live near is having bus problems, too, with late pickups and sometimes none at all. One lady even saw a driver stop for a smoke break, making the children wait inside the bus! I remember the frustration of waiting for a bus; I waiting with my kids because God only knew what kind of perverts would be hanging around bus stops and there were a few passing cars that looked the children over and came by several times per morning.
I hope she finds the shoes. That's very frustrating to lose something you can't replace but the worse thing is worrying about it! If they're gone, they're gone and she'll have to make do with cheap replacements--she'll learn a lesson from that. I remember when I left my watch in the bathroom and it was stolen. I was told that was too bad, nobody could afford to replace it. I've always remembered that I stopped being so careless about my things after that!

That's messed up! A smoke break!?!?! I remember our bus driver for summer school forgetting to drop us of once as I recall we were on the bus and he stopped outside of a fast food place and may or may not of bought us hash browns or something and then drove us back to where we were supposed to be. For some reason it seemed like it was a long time we were there in the bus waiting in God knows where because they shipped the suburb kids to Milwaukee at the time for summer school instead of our school district.
Yeah I was a bit creaped the first day when I picked up the girls. There was a girl on the next block/stop but her house is for sale and so far has not ridden the bus. Eitherway, there was a red car of sorts parked at the end of her road, now when it's way too hot (which it has been) or too cold we'll park our vehicles at the end of the block so the kids have some shelter. So I thought it could possibly be the other girls parent waiting there but the girls said that girl wasn't at school and probably had moved already. So I dunno. Usually I wait with them as their stop is off a highway in the morning and walk them home. But they usually walk home just fine from the stop and I watch from my kitchen window in winter. I always worry that with being by such a busy road anything could happen.
Well sadly I found the shoes super cheap! So cheap they are cheaper than the cheepies wal-mart and k-mart sell. So trust me even a cheap replacement wouldn't be very cheap because they don't last. I think I did well I paid bout $10-12 for her fila's otherwise they were about $35-45

It is interesting to read about the challenges that one face during the first week of school. It is no doubt really true but with time the kid will get use to this and then blend with the system.
