I just knew that steroids have certain effects on our body. However, I'm only using steroids externally. I asked the saleslady at a pharmacy for an ointment for my skin problem. She did not give me because I still have to secure a prescription from the doctor as the said ointment contains steroids. I have been using another ointment containing steroids for over two years already and because of this new knowledge, I feared that there might already be some effects in me due to long usage of that cream. However, when I searched on the net about steroids, I felt relieved because the result of my research is that, the effect was through oral taking of steroids. Maybe external use of steroids has just a mild effect.

It is wise to always avoid steroids. But there are some diseases where there is no proper treatment and the only alternative left is to use steroids, be it orally or externally. Oral steroids have so much side effects that they are usually prescribed to combat an emergency condition. External use of steroids having mild side effects are used for skin conditions and in case of our eyes where steroids have very frequent applications either as drops or as ointments. But ocular application of steroids may also predispose steroid induced glaucoma which is very difficult to manage. So this aspect should also be kept in mind before using steroids for ocular diseases.

Hi,
I don't know about the side effects of steroids using externally. But Oral taking of steroids have very bad side effects. My wife was taking steroid for many years as a treatment for her muscular disease. She gained weight, blood pressure as a side effects of steroid. So she decided not to take steroid. Long treatment of steroid may have side effect like silent killer.

The one you are using, is fine. The performance enhancement metabolic steroid are the dangerous kind, especially when abused. There are many medications that includes steroids as there active ingredients, the one you use for example, and other things such as asthma inhalers. These should not have severe side effects to your body. Doctor assisted steroid use such as hormone treatments are also safe, but has to be controlled and monitored properly. Just don't use the ones you can purchase off the internet and inject yourself

This discussion was started a year ago already. I am thinking of whether to comment on this or not. Because there is an urge for me to comment then I have to, so with the other responses that I have here. From your response, I just learned on other uses of steroids as well as the severity of the side effects caused.

Using steroids ointment got very little side effect. I was taking steroids due to my treatment after accident. My treatment last few weeks and it had sever consequences with side effects like putting on weight, rash, cushiness and changes in structure of the bones. You wont have that effects because you use the steroids externally so don't worry. I wish you all the best!

As far as I know, steroids can cause significant weight increase. I have 2 friends who are schizophrenic and they used to take steroids orally and regularly. After sometime, they put on a lot of weight and now they only take steroids on and off.
