If every adult disappeared....

...do you think your children would be able to survive? I read a book once called 'The Girl Who Built A City', and it was a fictional account of some sort of contagious illness that wiped out anybody over age 12 or so. Just suppose all of us disappeared - what do you think your kids would do? I know mine would still be able to do things like get something to eat and get dressed and shower, provided there was still running water and electricity lol. I think she would be scared, yes but I don't think she would be unable to think and adapt and figure her way.

I think if there were no adults, there would be some kind of surrogate family situation where the older kids kind of mentor the little kids and teach them how to survive. There would have to be some kind of caring going on to take care of the little ones. I think they could make it though. The ones without anyone to help them would be the weakest and might not survive.. kind of like in the wild... a baby tiger taken in by another family has a good chance, but a baby tiger all by itself will likely die.

You're right, in the book it's the same thing. There are gangs of kids who try to survive and of course they all fight against the civilized 'city' of kids because they want what they don't have - a 'family' sort of situation where the ones who can take care of things do and the ones who can't have a place of safety.

We will have a new generation of human beings who will grow into a pristine population if the current corrupted adults are wiped away from the face of the earth at a single go.Yes I am very sure of that. The babies won't be influenced by the corrupted souls

That subject seems to pop up a number of times in literature and Scifi in Particular...I'm recalling the Star Trek TOS Episode "Miri",The book of "Logan's Run" (The Movie and spinoff TV Series made the Characters older-30 years old,v the Book's 21-just checking this out online, there's a 2014 remake in the pipeline..) Mad Max-Beyond Thunderdome..and Stargate Atlantis Episode "Childhood's end"..Interesting idea..many possible outcomes...but don't have kids to project an outcome from the situation onto...

The first thing that I can think of is that I would imagine there would be a lot more conflict in the world than there is right now if the kids in my neighborhood are any indication of the way that it is with all kids right now. However, as far as my two go, I really think that they would be able to adapt and make things work because even though they are only eight and four years old, I've always made it a point to teach them practical skills.

Adults re there to tell us what they have acquired in the whole of their life. If they all disappeared, I feel they will learn everything of their own and they will be a creator.

Makes me think of a book I read in high school, Lord of the Flies, its about boys who are shipwrecked on island and how they survived. Anyways, I think some kids would be able to make it without adults, some I do not think would know what to do with themselves. By the time I was 12, my mom had made sure I could cook, clean, and all around take care of myself. So many parents today are not like that. I knew a 20 something year old who still had to take her laundry to her moms house cause she had no idea how to do it herself. SO many adults today do not know how to cook. With this going on with adults, think if they had children, they would not know how to take care of themselves either. Its a real sad state of affairs.

Mine would have been ok with the basics too. That sounds like and interesting book. Kids are pretty creative and open minded too so that would be a definite plus.

Of course it would totally depend on the ages of the children, infants and toddlers would never be able to survive without adult supervision and there are also older kids that would have a very difficult time taking care of themselves. All and all it would largely depend on the child and what they were taught to do for themselves. ether way, i would imagine any child would be very frightened and confused.

hello, Yeah, you know my mom and I was thinking about that last week and what a coincident that you open it here because we think that children are very innocent and scared to do bad things. So, maybe if children will rule the world it will start again from the very beginning. Happy life without sins, without corruption, without killing everything. And I dont think that it has a book at all I am not aware of it. Well, go back to the topic? Yeah, I think children now can survive because they are modern, they are more intelligent. they can shower and dressed by themselves even without our help. right? Maybe at first they will scare but I think they can survive. And I really want to try it.

Well, if you read "Lord of the Flies" by William Goulding, you could see that the boys are able to live without electricity, instead using fires. The boys eventually split into two factions, one of which becomes wild. Reminds me of dogs - if you leave them without human interaction for a while, they grow wild. The problem that brought the boys down was the fact that leadership was quite faulty in the group of boys.

Well there are some pretty genius kids around. The toughest part of that scenario would be getting everyone united. Children have a way of not listening to other children. However I believe that there would be some children to step forward and take on the burden of leadership.
