Where you live are your views common or not so much...

Are you a conservative in an area where most people are also conservative? Are you more liberal in a place where liberal views are common and appreciated? It is hard to be the dissenting voice - where your letters to the editor are challenged right away or dinner conversation turns to debate. How is it for you where you live?

I am a conservative. My area is quite liberal. I would consider my political views to be in the minority where I live.

I am very libertarian which will read very conservative to Liberals and very liberal to conservatives. I live in a very liberal place, Portland Oregon. I have actually had someone break up with me because of my political views and the fact that they wanted to debate my views all the time and how I was always the one in the wrong because she could find 5 or 10 people in the area who agreed with her point of view. So it is pretty hard living in a place where you avoid the political side of things simply because the people around you will only agree with one side of your views the rest they will call you a conservative who hates the poor.

I've lived in 11 US states (and multiple cities in some of them). I'll admit I've never lived in an ultra liberal area, but I have lived in everywhere from left of center to extremely conservative. I have been comfortable in all the places I've lived, regardless of the prevailing politics (religion too for that matter). I have never minded being the dissenting vote, and even sometimes gotten bored being around too many like minded people. I think a lot of it has to do with how you are in topics other than politics. If you're antagonistic with everything, it will bleed over into how you are perceived politically. Of course, there are some people who are going to hate you just because you don't go with the crowd, but well.. I'm not a go with the crowd kind of person.

I am a conservative and the state and city where I live lean that way, but I do attend a politically liberal church. At the moment, everyone seems to be discussed with all in Washington.
