Primary schools online?

So today I went out and checked the mail. In my mailbox I received a flyer for ECOT. This is an online school trying to get people to enroll their children from grades k-12 into school online. On the front page it has a little mouse that is shaped into a rounded school bus and it says this is the only school but you will ever need to take again. I am sorry but I do not believe that this is right, I think children in k-12 need a school environment to be in. They learn more when in a class room with a teacher who is certified to teach them. Not only do they learn education but they learn manners and morals as well. I believe if these children all are home schooled that some of their parents would not pay attention to them and they will not do their work and end up failing out. What do you think? Do you think the future is filled with all schools becoming online and doing away with the campus's?

Amanda: I am also for real schools. Online schools cannot teach the kids that a real school can. Future --may be online schools may come more in number in case the real school education becomes costlier. I find in USA education is costing more --many parents may find it difficult to spend that much money. My grand son was put in a day=school where they charged $500 per month.

Yes day care is very expensive but to go to a public school cost nothing where I live. I feel my child will not get the education he needs and I am not around 24 hours a day to help him if he needs it. I am a full time student myself and my mother in law who watches my children knows nothing about a computer let alone school.

Attending online schooling has its advantages like no fare, less hazardous, increased parental supervision, etc.. But it also has its disadvantages such as not developing social skills, less hands on activities and more on theoretical approach, plus your kid will grow up as a home buddy, which is not what you want. You'd want your kid to go out there and explore so that he'll develop skills he can use when he's already looking for his first job.

Maybe they think it's great idea. Children won't have to go to school anymore is a desirable thought but I think they're wrong.

Personally there is Good and Bad I think that comes from kids being Home Schooled. A lot of times I think it really is up to the Parents, and is it really going to benefit the child later on in life as well. Many times kids being Home Schooled is a good idea, especially if your kids are able to benefit from it. The problem becomes Yes they are limited to less friendships and being able to do things with kids their own age, but if they are able to produce learning this way without feeling behind, or you as a Parent thinking they are behind then it could be good. Parents just need to make sure they are ready to meet all challenges stemming from this later on.

I actually know people here on myLot who are in favor of home schooling. And I would agree with them that even manners and morals could be taught online or home schooling. But the one thing that I think is important with young children, that only a school environment can provide is the social aspect to school. Yes, it may bring in the bad side effects too like bullying, etc., but I think young children who are exposed to this social play are better equipped when they go out to the world.

I don't like the idea kids should learn school online. Also I think kids need to learn with a teacher and be together with their classmates. Like you are saying kids need to learn manners and the best way is having a teacher, but not online. Now education has become a great business. It shouldn't be seen education as earning of money. There are human beings involved in it –children and teachers. Maybe online education is properly for graduated students, but not on the starting level. I hope this trend won't increase.

This seems absolutly crazy! How on earth are kids going to grow and repond proparly to there enviroment. Very important factors such as socialing, and respect and disapline are going right out the window here. Whats to stop them just playing games when they are meant to be working? How can they ever go on school trips to broaden the minds, increase skills? Whats to stop cheating? And how are they going to get a hands on approach in creating things, specially without certain materials you may get in schools? And I feel they would be missing out on the personal touch that is the help they can get from someone pointing it out as they go along. Rediculous. Adults online yes perhaps if they dont have time, but by this time they have learnt all the things. I cant see this going at all well, and if we do, I really fear for the future of our society, too much is becoming online, and here is where the line really should be drawn.

THank You I agree 100% Like I was saying in another comment I do not have the time to babysit my child while he is online. Plus they will be missing out on alot and I would rather my child up and active with other children. They get recess at school and socialization. My son also gets to make new friends. I live out in the country there is nothing but amish people here. My son is not going to make friends with children his age that do not even speak english so in order for him to find friends he does so at school. I was mad when I seen that paper in the mail. There is no way my child will be home schooled unless he wants to act up and get kicked out. Which he will have way worst coming to him then home school!

In fact, this is the first time i heard that there is primary school online. I think it don't really suits us especially when our children was still very young. They needs to go outside from home and gained the social skills. Even i think i don't have the time to supervise his study as well. Even i don't want my son to be a home buddy and have no knowledge to interact with his friends when he has grown-up. I think children still needs to attend the usual formal school education, to gain their knowledge and social communication skills. Online education only suits adults who knows how to plan and study on their own...

Yes some parents will not take the time to teach their kids. But some parents will. If I had kids, Id much rather have them at home with me, safe and sound. Id make sure they learn their social skills by making sure they participate in sport activities to be with other kids. So there are good points and bad ones but its this way in all situations. I wish I could have gone to school online and not have to face the kids at school who made fun of my family name!! Im over it now but it wasnt easy back then being the only kid in school with an Italian name (even though my dad was born in Canada) Today, Im proud of my Italian name

I know online schools have a few advantages, but there are more disadvantages.I have a cousin sho has had 2 of her 3 home schooled by online courses. The youngest has no friends. And I think they need to be able to relate to people to survive in the real world. If home schooled when they have to go out in the real world they are lost and do not know how to relate to people.

At young age, they need social interaction. This is the time they can learn to mingle and create friends. That's foolish enrolling online.Even special children have a hard time associating people are being enrolled in regular setting. Maybe we can use online as one of the devices but not totally.

i am with you on this subject matter. how else with children learn to be socialable. i understand they are trying to cater to every childs needs but that is not right. the world does not cater to each and every childs needs so neither should schools. i am very old fashioned and believe in the traditional classroom and teachers. i have 3 children in my home and would never allow them to partake in an online school in grades k-12. i do think that eventually in the future they will do away with campuses and just have online schools. it makes me sad to think about
