So do you? is it because of passion? money? So far, i am on my third job. I have stay in my current position for about 3 years now. I can't say i'm extremely happy about it but i like what I am doing in my job. I am a web designer and developer. You can say i have passion in what I am doing as a job. The people here is friendly. It's a small company, so basically no politics at play. It's a free and easy, simple environment to work in. I love it here to be honest. The only thing missing from being prefect is the pay. There are increments each year, but not much. Not as much as you would get if you change your job, something i heard from my friends, who usually has a different job every 2 years. You can say I am in a comfort zone with little money. I want to change my job, but I am afraid I will lose these kind of friendly environment. So should I change my job for a higher pay or should I just stay and pray for better increments?

If u have what u ought to have in life now, salary does not matter at all. It's not easy to find passion in your job so it's good to stay, opt for a lower salary. There's no point in drawing a high salary for a job that stress u out everyday, making one dread going to work? With that, i think i might lose more than what i'm supposed to earn.. haha Besides, staying in the same company is like waiting for chance, a chance for other companies to head hunt u, offering u higher salary, for the same passion.. haha

I like what you are thinking, kun... Headhunted by other companies... haha... But I am not confident that I am that good to be headhunted! LOL... I think i might have what I need in life, but I don't have what I might need to fulfil the other wants in life, which is money... At this point in time, money is what have been stressing me out lately... That's why the thought of changing a job is in my mind.........

thanks for the advice! With more money, comes greater responsibility! (This sounds familiar... Can't put my finger on the quote and where it seems to come from?)

Up until recently (a few years ago), I was like that. I would change jobs frequently. I used to say, the time to update my resume and to start for looking a new job, was the very first day of the current job. I kept moving and moving in the hopes of getting better pay. But this new job of mine I think would be a keeper. I found advantages of being close to home that I don't think an increase in salary could easily replace.

I know that I wrote that this job of mine right now is a keeper, but just today another one of those recruitment specialists called and was offering me another job which looks like has better benefits. I have some thinking to do tonight.

I have had many different jobs. The money is not the reason why I change jobs, I just like to get new challenges and learn new things, and I feel that I have learned something from every job that I have had. There are some jobs that I liked much better than others, but I am happy that I have had the chance to try many different things. A couple of times I have changed jobs because of practical things for instanse when I found a job that was closer to my home. That way I didn't have to spend a lot of time on transportation every day.

Ah... that is a different perspective to changing a job. New challenges on every job! Why don't you, porcospino, fins a job that has that different challenges every day? I believe a sales job do right? Or a detective work, even a doctor or a nurse is challenging... Haha... Easy said than done.... I for one, doesn't like challenges, that is why I have been in my current job for about 3 years now. Maybe I shouldn't change my job...

It all depends on your interest in the job and the payment you get from it. I think if you love the job then you will never change it, but if you don't like it then no one is going to stop you from changing it. I my self have changed around 4 jobs in the last 2 years, the starting years of my career. I think that is a big number and now i have settled with a new job which I like but who knows the future.

Your a developer so it's just fine if you jump from one job to another. See, you cannot be constant in developing. It is continuous improvement or you will be left behind. By switching jobs from time to time, you'll be exposed to different environments which can either improve you or hurt. It's a risk. But what's important is you meet new friends/developers like you who can help you in your career, learn new languages or update you on what is new language in developing world. It can catapult your prof fees. This could work for you, it works for other developers i know.

should i really follow my guts? My guts is telling me to stay, because economic is not that good outside, and i may not find another job equivalent than this. However, logically in my brain, I am think I should change my job, as I will find a job with better prospects and pay. Thanks anyway!

When I was younger, I often changed my job because I found that I was not satisified with the job or the company. Now I am married and having a child. I don't want to change the job since a stable job means to me when I have my own family. I need some time to take care of my family. I love China

Well, it depends on how much you need a high salary. If your salary cannot sustain you that much, then maybe it's time for you to find a new job. Anyway, a new job would mean , new acquaintances and adjustments. But if you are a flexible and friendly person, you can establish another set of good co-employees if ever you get a new job again.

Honestly, I thing you should stay with your present job. I'm dreaming about doing what I enjoy and I've tried to make this work since I started having a job. Basically I'm in the absolute opposite of your situation. I have no problems making new friends or getting along with people in different environments, but I can't work what I enjoy, because I have no document to proof that I'm capable of doing it and that's needed in order to get a job like that these days(computers, consumer electronics support). You must realize that you are really lucky to work something you have a passion for. Yes, the salary is a very important, but compared to a situation in which you have to look for a new job, readjust your mental state, go truth the stress of not knowing what is going to happen etc. My opinion is that a person always gets valued for the good that one does. The fact that you are doing this job for 3 years, only shows that it's worth it. Good luck from me!
