We have washing machine and dryers here and they are in a separate room for the house. It is called our laundry room and there we wash all of our clothes. Then we put them in the dryers where they come out nice and dry ready to be folded. I don't know anyone that washes them in the bathroom anywhere in my family and or friends.

Hello Fanta, I have washing machine at my home and a specific place to place washing machine. We never kept our washing machine in the bathroom because ours is attached bathroom toilet so if we place it in bathroom it will be tougher to manage. And at most of the places i have seen people placing washing machine at a separate place not in the bathroom.

Hi fantabulous! We always wash out clothes in the laundry area and not in the bathroom. The bathroom is a small place therefore, it is not very comfortable and convenient to wash piles of clothes there. In my case, I am used to washing clothes while standing because the laundry area has a sink. So I don't like washing clothes while sitting down. I have friends though, who live in a boarding house and they have no laundry area so they wash their clothes inside their very small bathroom. Sometimes, they wash their clothes in the kitchen sink. Sometimes they just wash their clothes in the kitchen itself and just lift the big plastic container with water and soap towards the bathroom to remove the water when they are finished. Personally, I think it's very difficult but they have no choice.

Fanta, nowadays, i seldom wash clothes in bathroom. I will only brush and wash those very dirty clothes of my son and dump them into the washing machine. Using washing machine makes us life more convenient and have more time to do other things. The only person in my home who is still using wood to wash her clothes is, my grandmother. She said it is a good form of exercise to keep her body slim. My grandmother always washing her clothes using wood plank and she remained slim until now. No wonder she don't like to use washing machine until now...

Nowadays, the washing machine is so cheap and almost every of the family has one washing machine to wash their clothes. If you are asking us about the place to wash our clothes, of course we are not washing our clothes inside the bathroom. ha! ha! We are washing our clothes outside the bathroom with the washing machine. If there is someone has no washing machine, I am sure he or she will wash their clothes at the laundry room. Certainly, this laundry room is different from the bathroom. Furthermore, no one washes the clothes with hands anymore.

I think it needs to be clearer what needs washing. If it is clothes for personal wear then it rather depends on how long they are worn and the circumstances. I wear clean socks, pants and shirt every day so the washing machine does just fine. If it is bed linen then a domestic washing machine is not always suitable and they may need to go to a commercial laundry. Stained or very dirty clothing can be dealt with by soaking prior to washing possibly with some bleach added. If they are coloured clothes then an oxidising bleach but with white materials a reducing bleach is more effective. I think most households in the UK use a washing machine or go to the laundrette but I have seen clothing and linen being wshed in a river in some parts of the world and in Spain they still have in some towns washing places with running water where people can go and wash things by hand just like doing it a river. I would not think most modern bathrooms are suitable to washing clothing or linen apart from small items such as socks or pants and then there is the problem of drying them. Best dried outside in the fresh air if possible. If it is a sunny day all the better as sunlight itself is a good cleanser and does have a bleaching effect. An indian friend of mine has saris that can only be cleaned by laying them out in the sunshine. Okay in India not so good in the UK

Our house is not that big but we have a washing machine that's in our laundry area. I wash my clothes once a week and that have become my habit ever since. My mom when I was a little kid maybe around 8 or 10, she taught us how to wash our clothes without the use of the washing machine it was a tiring work but it felt good that washing your own clothes makes you feel that you must have the need to make them clean all the time when using them. That's how I became conscious of how to use your clothes. When it comes to underwear I wash them in the bathroom before going out then hang them outside to dry.

I also seen such thing in my neighbour and my relatives. I dont know what is the reason behind them. In my home we wash cloths in bathroom. I think they are doing because if one need to wash clothes and one have to bath, then they can do it simultaneously. I think it is the main reason. It may be also due to maintain the tiles clean. The washing powder can cause the tiles to be corroded.

There may be another reason like modernization result to change life style. It may be also due to that most of them are living in flats and villas and there will be no space for lying stone outside. It may be also that one should feel shame to wash cloth, if other person see or it not. The main reason will be invention of washing machine. What do you think about this possibilities ?

Well, we mostly wash our clothes in a washing machine. There's still a special washing stone oustside, but we hardly use it. It's only when we get the feeling the washing machine didn't wash the clothes completely clean, we use the stone. This can happen sometimes as there's no warm water facility for the machine.

Here many people still have those stones. Sometimes I even see people washing their clothes in a river. And grinding stones are still used for grinding spices, chutneys, etc.

In my bathroom is a shower, bath, and a long bench containing drawers and cupboards and in the middle, a basin. We use the basin for hand or face washing and sometimes I like to wash my delicate items there, especially when they are new. Then I can hang them on the towel rack, away from the sun, to dry. It must be very damaging to the clothing to use a stone. We have special detergents for stains and just for regular washing in the machine. My laundry is outside, still a part of my house but only reached by going outside. I think that squatting to do the washing by hand on a stone is too hard for women in this modern age...it's bad for the back and bad for the circulation in the legs.

Most of the time, I wash my clothes in the bathroom. But our washing machine and dryer is in the laundry area. After I wash my clothes there, I clean the bathroom afterwards.

I do not think it is a good idea. The point here is, there is a right place to do things specifically. Bathrooms are never a place to wash clothes.

I live in an apartment and I have the possibility to go to a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer and space to hang up clothes to get dry. It can happen that I hand wash clothes, but it is rare.

We have a separate place to wash the clothes. It is more comfortable to have a laundry room where I also do my ironing. In my mom's house, we don't have that much space to have a separate laundry room. It may sound strange but the machine is in the kitchen because that's the biggest area where we can have a source of water for that automatic machine. From there, we can easily take the clothes to the garden to dry.

no!! because we have our separate area for that. And its weird that if you were going to wash your clothes in the lavatory and somebody or suddenly there is somebody else might using it.. its annoying... So i always washed it outside of our house and its pretty quite at least i8 never smelled the bathroom air..
