Congratulations Ms. Shamcey Supsup! 3rd Runner Up Ms. Universe 2011!

Even though I sincerely believe you are the rightful winner of the title, we are still proud you made it to the top 5. I also believe that Ms. Salonga should have prepared a more difficult question than the softball question she threw at Ms. Angola which any beauty pageant contestants can answer with ease because it is one of the so-called "practice questions". She basically handed over the crown to Ms. Angola. And what about the question to Ms. Supsup? It was a very difficult one, as if her religious conviction was judged. The question of Ms. Philippines to that of Ms. Angola was like Differential Calculus vs. basic math. Next time I think it is better they will only have 1 question for all the 5 finalists. The contestants will be in a soundproof booth so they will not hear the question before being asked. They will then be asked the question already translated to their language, because it seems the translation process is a way for contestants to cheat and win more time to think about the right answer. No religious or ideological questions, and definitely filter out the softball questions. Again, congratulations to Ms. Shamcey Supsup! Great job and for Filipinos you are our Ms. Universe 2011!

If Shamcey Supsup answer that question in our native tongue (tagalog) then she will only showing that Philippines are truly INDEPENDENT Country.... and since she answer it in English, therefore, until now, we Filipinos are still DEPENDENT to America.... all of the contestants having their own interpreters because they are all Independent (tangkilikin ang sariling atin) for sure (sana)....

I disagree, it is not unfair if Shamcey didn't ask for an interpreter. It's her decision not to use one. Everything is provided for the contestant if they need it. As for the 'independent' issue, I think our contestant showed a little bit of being independent of using her own voice rather than relying on a translator. This is not an arena to display patriotism or other national issues. Other contestants doesn't or can't speak English, it does no mean they are inferior or superior to us. It's the matter of what the contestant can do or cannot do at the moment - a good test whether they are really the genuine article or not. Besides, all the contestant's aim is to win the pageant and not display their 'independence; or the lack of it, in your opinion.

very well, explained.... on the ABS-CBN news, there's a poll voting if whether she answer it in Tagalog or English.... then majority votes that she did was right, because she answer it in English instead of tagalog.... anyway, even tagalog language itself contains plenty elements of Spanish or Chinese, Mexican there is.... i think, the true Filipino language are Alibata hehehe

I am also happy to hear that Ms. Philippines not only made it to top 5, but she did the best by answering the question with no interpreter and for me she is the Ms. Universe 2011 winner. Don't blame judge Lea Salonga, she said that the question was written and given to them by the organizers of the said contest. If you are a judge and you are a Filipino, it will be bias to say that you will construct a very difficult question to other contestants. Just play even and don't show favoritism just because one of the contestant were your fellowmen.

I learned about that fact when I read Ms. Lea Salonga's tweet. So she only read the question that was prepared by somebody else connected with the pageant. I admit I am biased but who wouldnt? But I also learn that we must accept defeat because it happens in any contest like this. However, I cant help but doubt if the contest is really fair, because as I have said, why one question is so easy while the other is so hard. If I see everything is fair then I would have been the first one to congratulate Ms. Angola. But so far this doubt still lingers.

Behind all the beauty, glamor and the so sweet attitude that somehow melts in your mouth, it is still competition and everybody has their own favorites. Personally, I think that the whole evening and ceremony is just a huge publicity stunt for the owners of the pageant because it is deliberately cut throat. Behind the smiles and the lights, some girls really resort to all bad things like bad stabbing or any method that can make an advantage. It is a complete sugarcoat. Like any competition, fairness is always in question. But the competition, like nay competition, must produce a winner nevertheless and that is all everybody wants. Sometimes, we think it is fair and sometimes others have to disagree with our opinion. But the whole point of the exercise is to display our best foot forward and with our candidate, we just did that. If others cannot appreciate, it's their lost, not ours.

Winning Miss Universe is NOT based only on the question and answer portion. Don't blame it on the questions or who answer it better. And before you blame Lea Salonga, you should have researched first that it is not the judges who created their questions. It was just assigned to them according to Lea Salonga's twitter account.I think the judgement is just fair. Miss Angola deserved it, just accept it. And Miss Philippines did really great.

Softball question vs. a religious-conviction question? Whoever prepared these questions must either have a dual personality or knows exactly what question goes to whom. I just accept the fact that in these pageants, winners come out based on the kind of beauty prepared by those that are in that country or region. If the pageant was held somewhere else I doubt the same outcome would have happened. This is just my opinion so you can take it or leave it.

Leah Salonga - One of the 2011 Ms. Universe Telecast Judges
Yes I truly agree with your observation. I was never expecting to hear such a very easy question coming from the brainy Leah Salonga. That question has been asked countless times in beauty pageants even those gay pageants in fact and I should say the answer of Ms. Angola is also a very common answer as well and not even worth a high score. The question given to our Ms. Philippines is tough and the best question of all and Ms. Philippines gave the smartest reply ever. Of all the candidates I think she gave the best answer and should get the highest score that is if only all the judges know the value of faith in God really is. I think Shamcey now vindicated the Filipina women. We do have brains indeed not just mere beauty.

I just knew it to Lea Salonga's twitter account that those questions were just lucky draw so it was not made from her.

Oh I see, at least now I am happy that such a shallow question did not come from my idol Lea. Maybe Lea learned how people disliked the question so she made a tweet right away. Twitter is really wonderful. It gives people immediate chance to explain themselves.

congratulations to ms shamcey for being in the top 5! eventhough she may not be the miss universe, i think she still was able to put our country into the map again and she has brought honor to us too! i was not able to catch the question and answer portion of the pageant, but whatever it is, we cannot change anymore the result and i am satisfied with shamcey's performance.

sometimes a hard type of questions are easy to answer while simple questions are very hard to answer either simple questions that are easy to answer but in front of the spectators, the adrenalin rushing to the entire body, that simple question turns to a very difficult one.... just like practicing a fire drill at school and in the office, very easy to simulate and practice and always passed... but when a true fire will broke up, your whole body becomes freeze, and all that your learn on how to escape fire seems all lost on our mind.... totally shocked and frigidity....

yeah! congrats Shamcey! I have to say though that the contestants aren't judged solely for their answers (I think). There's a lot of factors contributing to the win. Also, AFAIK, the questions were already predetermined weren't they? They were just listed the judges were to pick one. I dunno. Still, I'm still glad she placed!

Congrats Shamcey! Basically, question and answer portions are subjective. It's really a matter of what the judges thinks is the correct answer to the question. It's unfortunate that she happens to get the tough one.

Congratulations to miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup! she truly made us proud! last year with Venus Raj she also had a personal question now same goes with miss Supsup. but even so.. they answered it well though its somewhat invading but she answered it with dignity. They are really stunning and Graceful Filippinas.
