Do you like? To remain some of your foods in your plate after meal?

India
September 13, 2011 4:16am CST
Yesterday I attended a party where everyone was taking variety of foods by their own hand and I observe the people was taking lots of foods in their plate and after sometime they was saying ohhh no enough no I cant eat it...and leave most of the foods in the plate and puts their plate in the box which is available there.. I hate those people who not respect the meals we all are doing work only for meals and for stomach...Why people take more foods if they cant eat fully..I have no such habit my plate is always clean and neat..no single bite is remains in my plate..because I know without food no life.. What you think this is bad habit or do you like this..share your view with fanta!

I don't eat very much and always prefer to serve my own plate so that I am not over served. I also only serve just enough where I know I will be able to eat the amount so I do not waste. Yes I too dislike for some to waste food, as there are so many hungry people in the world and it is not a nice thing to do as the host will feel bad that they did not finish their plate. If I am served and have not choice then I will ask for something to put in the leftovers so I can take home. But my main goal is not to overtake so I do not waste. Sadly some see a variety and it is like they fill their eyes before their tummy. Not a good thing to do.

I normally do not like to 'waste' food and I would take such quantity, which is essential and required. Wastage seems to me a foolish things. I believe, even if it is a party or function, someone has paid for it and spend money on it, so I should not waste it.

surekharathi - Yeah, someone has paid for the food, so we should take it as per our requirement. Wastage of food is not less than a crime, specially, when there are people who do not even afford to get two times meal in a day and it is national wastage.

I don't like to remain food. It remember me when I go to a resort that everybody wants to eat like is last day of their life and at the end they remain a lot of food on the plate and whe I see that always makes me feel angry because I don't take want I know I am not going to eat, I prefer go one and again and again to pick up more food than full fill my plate looking greety and knowing that this mountain of food I won't eat it.

Thanks Fanta! I just think that there are too much necessities in the world for us to spend or throw out things that can make the difference to the others. For example when I to throw the trash in the trash can in front of my house and I see for example what I saw when I moved here, I found big mirror with nothing broken SO i took it, my husban got mad because he says that is not correct, but I think that if it is sometyhing that the people can still use there is nothing bad on take it, another time my son went to take the crash and he found out another mirror and told me and I said bring it, he brought it and we didn't tell my husband because he knows what think, but then one day he realized about that and was complaining, but then when he saw the mirror that it looks if it was new, he said "I am sorry, and you are right, there is nothing bad in to take if it is not garbage". I just think that throwing out is not always the best because we can rycicle, the same with food and I am not telling we may eat what another person didn't what I mean is that the life is difficult even thought maybe we are in a good economic situation, we should think about those who are not as lucky. "Take only what you are going to eat and buy only what you will use" Rosa26

fantabulus, This is one of the reasons why I do not go to a self service buffet without finding out what the menu or theme is. Don't get me wrong, I love to eat but some buffets just do not serve the type of food I like and as such, I would not be enjoying my meal and much more likely to leave leftovers on my plate. I am against wastage and I cannot tolerate people piling their plates where at the end of the day only eat a mouthful or two and leave a load of leftovers. It is just not right especially when there are people suffering from hunger in other parts of the world.

Yes sky this is the main reason to not leave the food in plate because most of the people facing the problem of hunger and at least God giving us the food two times..so we should respect of it...

Hi Surely it is a bad habit. People should surely respect the food. And they should take the food in plate that they can eat. There are many people in the world who are not getting daily proper food. So if we can't help them so better we don't waste food too. We can leave without money, But without FOOD nobody can live.

I don't leave food on my plate. I try to take the right amount of food when I put it on the plate. I don't like food waste and in UK I noticed that too much food going to the bin while other people are starving.

Hi fanta.. I do not waste food at all. And I encourage my family specially children to make sure their plate is empty at home. At parties i tell them to take only what they can eat. We have to take care and it is our responsibility not to waste the 'resources' as we have no right to do that. These days some NGOs here have started taking the left over dishes at parties / hotels so that they can serve it to the needy and the party host / hotel owners start saving food resources.

Thanks fanta. If we don't understand the values then how do I teach the gen next? We can not set rules for the hotels but yes we can set our own aim not to waste food as ultimately it is waste of our money too. Let me share this piece with you. Last week we had arranged dinner for some of our neighbors as they were asking us a treat for Onam (Kerala's main festival) though we are not Malayali but we belonged to Kerala iyer community. They not only had dinner but they took whatever items they liked for the next day as well so we all could consume the food and was not wasted...

I always place small quantities of food in my plate. And if I want more, I get a second helping. I once went to a restaurant in Brasil owned by a wise man. It was the kind that you eat all you want. There was a big sign there that you could eat as much as you wanted but, if you left food on your plate, you would be charged twice as much. It also had another sign about not throwing food whereas some people did not have enough. I don´t often use the word "sin" but I´d use it here

In whatever reasons, I don't pic more food if I can't eat. I know what is my capacity and how much I can eat, that much only I will take from the serving side. Also, I am so particular that no eatable would remain in my place once I completed my eating. As you said, I have observed at many places that people will take a lot of food items and finally they will simply throw them in the dustbin. Especially children and ladies, they have this practice too much. People who come alongwith children should make to understand the children not to take too much in their plates and if need more, go for the second round and grab accordingly. What more to say, even in our office canteen (pantry) at lunch time, so many girls used to get the food form there and they throw so much of food after having their food. One day I notified a girl on the same and she said sorry. But as long as we are aware of it, we should not waste the food, as food is so precious these days. There are millions of people are starving and longing for atleast one time food to maintain their lives. Hope all will take care of it and thanks for such a nice topic. In fact I had a similar discussion few months back also. Thank-s

Thats great you know your capacity and I think everyone knows their capacity then they should take only limited food which they can eat fully. No thanks not only children but I have seen elder people are also doing this take too much food and then most of the food will remain in their plate..

Since I were a boy, my parents wanted me to finish whatever foods on my bowl or plate. I am not allowed to have a habit to waste the foods and it is shameful for not finishing all of my foods. Now, I am teaching my children by the same way too. My utmost concern is not to waste the foods because there are so many hungers who do not have foods to eat. We must maintain a good habit to finish all of our foods on our plate or bowl.

It should be , that we have to get only a moderate amount of foods in our plate. We should see to it that all is eaten up. And if you think you still need for another serving then you can do so, provided that it's again within the limit of what you can truly take into you stomach. That way, we don't waste food that much. However, for those with dogs, it wouldn't go to waste because it can be fed to the dogs actually.

It is actually a habit. I make sure there is nothing left on my plate after any meal. This is also the thing that I am teaching my kids.

When I was young I remembered my parents always reminding me and my siblings to finished whatever food left in our plate. My mother especially kept reminding us that food is precious and it should not be wasted. She would reprimand us and made us finish whatever food that is on our plate otherwise we cannot leave the table. I don't have any problem with this though since I love to eat but I make it a point to get only enough food that I think I can finish off so that my mother will not scold me. I did not give it much a thought at that time but I learned a very important lesson that is--to put just enough food which I think I can consume so that nothing would be left in my plate and that I should not waste food since there are those who don't have enough food to eat. Now that I have my own family and two daughters I also train them to get only enough food that that they can eat during meal time and when attending parties. I told them that they can always get more if they still want but to and to avoid having food left on their plate because this is such a waste. I know that there are those who leave food on their plate and I think that they should do better. If they will just think of those who don't have food on their plate, they will surely be ashamed of what they are doing and avoid wasting food.
