Just out of curiosity has anyone tried the food storage type foods? They are the kind that come in #10 cans and such with high shelf stable lives. I have been looking at places online to buy from like Augason Farms, Honeyville grain and other places like that. I want to add these types of food to our "extended panty" ok yeah we are working on food storage. I usually just build our stockpile with deals we get using coupons (yep we are one of those people too). Our stockpile is not as impressive as those seen on Extreme Coupons but hey we are working on it. I do have over 20 boxes of cereal all bought for less than $1.00 a box a lot of them were free.

I have tried over the years to stock pile things, but sadly my husband says I have a sickness. He can't understand why people need to stock up on things, when they don't live where there are natural disasters. I wish we had coupons like that here, the show shows people using double and triple coupons, sadly Northern Ca did away with them many years ago. I don't know anything about #10 cans or the stuff inside them. Came here to read what others had to say will keep checking back to find out the answers.

Where do you live that is safe from disasters? I mean a really bad thunderstorm can cause catastrophic problems and can knock out electricity for days. Really bad rain can cause flooding and other problems. No place is totally free of disasters lol. I feel for you though it must be hard to want to prepare and can't. oh and financial disasters know no borders.

I live in Northern Ca, thunderstorms are minor, earthquakes are south of me, to far away from coast for tsunamis, or hurricanes, tornadoes not a problem, not in an area that floods, although flooding does happen around here. As for power outages have never lost power for more than 4 or 5 hours. Usually goes out and is less than 2 before its back on. I am a very lucky individual. Now if the dam broke that might be a problem, not sure, but then probably wouldn't need provisions as I would be washed away. Now financial is another story I'm not immune to that.

I have thought about buying items that have a better shelf life but I wonder about their quality myself. By the way you said "panty" instead of pantry.... If you can get them for a good deal then that's a good thing, I don't know all that much about the # 10 cans but I've heard of them before. Good luck with stockpiling. It's a good idea really.

@ sweetdesign, an edit button would be great for misspellings, but sadly we have none.

I would not have a place to store big cans. I am sure there are many places making them available. We have alot of canned foods in our cupboard and beans and rice and such. If we were without electricity we would have to use the canned stuff so it would be smart to have alot of those on hand.
