. BLARING MUSIC OF THOSE JEEPNEYS and BUSES

It’s nice to ride a jeep or a bus where there is music. But when the music is so loud it is already annoying. I had the experience of riding one jeepney with a blaring music on the way to work, once. I was silent, but annoyed. When I called the driver to stop because I already reached my destination, I wasn’t heard. I shouted and still he kept going. So, the other passengers called him to stop. But it was way far from where I am supposed to alight so I was angry. Before I alighted , I angrily told him, that his music is so loud that’s why he didn’t hear my calling him to stop. The other passengers agreed and he was silent. Was I right, to be angry?

I'd be angry, too, if that were me. It would have been okay if he could hear the passengers in spite of his loud musice, but, apparently, he could not. If it were up to me, that should be regulated as well. Because sometimes it's just noise. Ever rode in a jeepney where the sound is like screeching something (I don't know how to say this in english - tunog lata )? That's terribly annoying and bad for the ears.

Probably that's why they often get accused of not listening to their wives. It's not that they're not listening. They can't listen anymore because their ears got busted by jarring music! I'm just kidding, of course.

Yes, some jeepneys' music sounds like that. It's maybe because they would put the synthesizers too loud, to the point that it seems to screech, which is so irritating to the ears. I think, we girls don't like blaring sounds. But for men, they seem not to mind.

I don't mind even if it's loud as long as the music is balanced, meaning the equalizer is at the right settings and not just all twitter or bass drowning all the other sounds. But not too loud too that you'll hear the bass even if you're a kilometer away. Like you, and I think a lot of people too, I feel annoyed with those drivers who seem to be too proud of the kind of sound system their jeepneys have unmindful that there are passengers who would like to take a nap while on the road but can't due to the noise their speakers make. But tempers are more for the ladies since the men would rather be silent about the whole ordeal. More often it's the ladies who call the drivers attentions and the drivers usually take the sermon in silence.

Yes, i noticed that too ybong! It's the women who tend to always complain about it to the driver. Maybe because women are more into soft music , while men are into rock ones, or heavy metal music. And besides, women tend to be talkative and vocal.

I guess that's part of our culture, men listens while women talk.

I think my mood will be based on the music he would be playing LOL But realistically speaking, music should not be too loud that it will lessen the sensitivity of the driver to his surroundings. It can actually cause accidents! Where I am living, not much jeepneys have loud radios like before. People do enjoy silence nowadays :). But have you seen those loud motorcycles and scooters? They are even louder than jeepneys!! LOL Cheers!

You are lucky to be in a place where jeepneys don't have blaring sounds. Actually, in the city where i reside with my family and work don't have them. It's in the outskirts of the city where the jeepneys have loud music and at the same time would be so fast. Maybe if i chance to ride in one again, i will surely get the plate number and will dutifully report it to LTO. This has to stop.

i think we have to right to complain to the drivers when their music is so loud that when passengers reached their destination and needs to alight, he won't hear our call to stop. besides, it is not healthy to our ears. meanwhile, i remember, some buses and jeepneys have a way to tell the driver that someone is alighting. some put push button switch to turn the signal on and tells the driver to stop. some even uses a string that the passengers have to pull and trigger the signal, a buzzer or a light/lamp so they don't need to shout at the driver to tell them to stop.

Yes, i do think so too. Those buttons and strings to tell the driver to stop, doesn't give them the freedom to have blaring sounds on their jeeps or buses. For music to be appreciated, it has to be in a proper volume, specially in those public vehicles.

You were right to be angry! That driver, with his music volume on high - good thing you didn't get into an accident! The dangers of the driver not being able to hear because of loud music is like when one is texting or talking on the phone behind the wheel. Goodness, that wasn't just annoying; that was also dangerous.

Actually, it is good that he has music in his jeepney. But it should have been in the proper volume of the sound. It doesn't have to break our eardrums. Serves him right, when i admonished him.

I always hated the noise, especially when I'm traveling becuase they are times when I really want to doze off. Of course, I don't expect much from public transporattion to have a pleasant and and sound-proof sleep but having unnecessary noise brings in another pain in the neck. I think you have a right to angry, you expected to be delivered on your destination. Even though you paid the fare, it is necessary for you to be on time and on place and that driver is essential to do just that. Anything that inconveniences a passenger on a trip should not be treated as as uncommon or irrelevant. The driver should take your words seriously or people will won't be boarding his jeep anytime soon.

I take note of jeepneys who has drivers that are reckless. Usually, once i see the driver, i would go down and go to another jeepney. I would only be forced to ride him again if there are no more other jeepneys plying the route.

As to those blaring sounds , sometimes if i am near the driver , i tell the driver if he can lower down the volume. Luckily though, they would tone it down a bit also.

Hi SIMPLYD! By all means you do have the right to get really mad at the driver. Remember that you are the riding customer, and he should be sensitive enough to care and serve you. It just annoying here in our country where most jeepney drivers don't really care about the welfare of their passengers, where in fact their earnings depend greatly from them. Have a nice day!

That's true. Had it not been that his music isn't too loud, he could have heard me outright when i said PARA! I wouldn't have reprimanded him for it.

Well, ebuscat, it is also nice that they have music but the volume should be in moderation. I like it , when they play danceable music. Makes me tap my hands on my knees. But those with blaring sounds, they should be banned! So you only like the chirping of the birds. I like that too, specially when i wake up in the early morning.

There are jeepneys that are too fast and has blaring music. Usually its from Marikina to Stop and Shop. Those are called Patok Jeepneys. The music is really quite loud and they will drive so fast. When I was in college, there are also students who are complaining about it but the driver seems to careless about it. He even say, "next time don't ride a Patok Jeepney".

Yes, i have experienced that myself, when i was staying at my sister's house in Antipolo, when i was having my training. They have so loud sounds and drives so fast. I don't complain, because i know it would fall on deaf ears, seeing that the drivers are so arrogant. Can they not be complained to the traffic enforcers instead?

Yes. It's very nice to ride a jeepney because it's cheap plus having a radio makes me amused as long as it's not too loud. I hate super loud speakers which makes my eardrum blow.

That's true, it's nice to ride in a jeepney where there is music. Your trip willbe worthy because you get to enjoy good music. However, if the sound if already too loud, i guess somebody should really be courageous enough to tell the driver to tone it down. I think in my case, i was not too courageous enough to do it right awaya, but rather chose to do it when forced to, like that one.

i agree loud music is annoying and dangerous and where i live cops will stop you and ticket you for music that is too loud you cannot hear sirens of emergency vehicles or horns blowing to warn you of possable danger i especially dont like loud music that i dont like to listen to its a shame now a days all the kids listen to is that talking fast rap that you cant understand and they have the base turned way up loud where it shakes and vibrates the whole car and all you can hear is boom boom yall should stick to the good old country music from the good old days

It's nice to know that in your place cops will stop you for playing too loud. How i wish that one will also be adapted here in the Philippines.
