Hello MYLOTTERS, I don't know since i completed studies and started doing job i never thought of earning much as most of the people do.When i see back i see most of my college and school friends are getting salaries double than mine but i never felt jealous or thought like earning more than them. My parents and even my wife say that because i don't think in that direction that's why i am far behind them but they have never doubted my intelligence or potential. But when i sit alone and think i always think am i wrong? Should i think of earning more money and search a job which will offer me more salary and reach up to the level of my friends or should be satisfied with what i am getting as ernings which i do is sufficient for me to feed my family.

Hi, pal! Both of us are abnormal, we need to pay a visit to the psychiatrist office one day to correct our dislike of having more money. Both of us are seriously abnormal inside our pea size head.

Hello Lampar, By being jealous we cannot do anything. Instead we should take inspiration from them and search a job to come up to their level.

I don't see anything wrong with enjoying what we do yet still considering escalating professionally with probabilities of earning more for the future. We will not be young forever and best to consider all options while one is young before, one has reached a certain age where it would be difficult to be hired/promoted in their careers. Of course thinking and weighing your options should include as to how happy you are with your career, company and how things are for you as opposed to simply making money. These are areas to explore and you will not find an immediate answer, but weighing out and exploring options might just find you and answer. The only way to explore the options is to perhaps quietly, as to not alert your company with possibly risking being fired, but quietly viewing what else is out there and will I enjoy doing that and what will it take to get there. You never know because money does not instantly cause happiness, you want to makes sure one day you look back and say, glad I made the change or man was I glad I did not. As to not have regrets and or let life simply pass you by. Best of luck, but better now then never to explore.

HWG: After reading your response I was tempted to find out suitable quotes on money. "For I don't care too much for money, for money can't buy me love." - The Beatles" Many more quotes are there in this: http://www.wisebread.com/64-funny-inspiring-and-stupid-money-quotes-from-famous-people I will add one more.. money can buy bed but cannot ensure sleep. (I had a nap for half an hour and am fresh)

I lover that link! I like where it says: "5. "Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time." - Jim Rohn" Thanks for sharing this as I will be using some of these herein. Oh and glad you are well rested too.

Hello HWG, Thats important as always in life we have to weigh up the things and compare. In my case my present office is nearby my home and i don't think i won't get any job that much nearer to my house.Secondly i am not that much bad earner. Thirdly i am living with my parents and if i go away for a new job i don't think i will get another chance to live with my parents. And i give more weightage to all thses points than money.

The best question that you must answer yourself is are you happy with what you're doing? Are you happy with your job? If you are then there's no need to find a better paying job. What good is a better paying job if you can't enjoy and smile anymore. It will just stress you. Good to know that you're satisfied with what you have. Best thing is happiness. Good luck to you. :) shadow41

Well.. If you are satisfied with your earning and its enough for your family then surely there is no meaning of comparison. But if its not enough then also comparison is not needed , you just work hard and the results will be appear. Even I thinks that if whatever I am earning is enough for me and my family, that's it. I don't want to be a big man.

Hello AKP, But most of the people are ambitious and always want to earn more and more to become BIG which i also feel bad as after all how much rich we become in the future but we will eat food not money. This is fact that most of the people even who earn sufficient to feed his/her family run after money to gather more money which in my opinion is not good at all.

I think that you already matured ahead compared to other people. Only mature people realizes that money isn't the most important thing in life. I do believe that money is nothing but a human construct and that there are other essential things in life that we should focus on to be fulfilled and happy. Only mature kind of people knows that. So I must say that not liking or looking for a lot of money isn't something that is abnormal. You just have outgrown the conventional wisdom of wealth as the primary focus in life. Yes, we need money to live life, but money isn't life itself. Good for you that you feel contented now about your financial status. Other people are having a hard time getting over money issues like that.

Hello AG, Thats right i have also seen fewer people who get satisfied with the money they have/earn.This is absolutely right that its not only money which is essential in life there are other things also which are also important of course money is required to feed ourself but beyond this money is not that much important.

hi sjvg but are you h appy in your job, and is it fulfillin gyou in some way? Right now here in Southern California in the US our unemployment rate is sky high and second worst in the Nation. If you like your job try to move up in it, just be ever m ore indispensable but do not just change because of others, especially if you are here in the US getting another job just might be out of the questions, some have been out of work for months here. be careful and if you look for another more high paying job, keep your old one until you are hired on the new one.

Hello Mrs Hatley, Thats true one should take care while changing job.I am presently satisfied with my present job as i think money is not only thing you need, you need your parents to be with you to be taken care off.I have also felt by my previous experiences not to leave old job without getting the new job.

To be honest, I don't think you are abnormal, but you sound like a very content person. And that quality lacks in a lot of people these days. And that is why we strive to work our as*es off in search of more money and forget to enjoy the beauty of life. I wish more people would be like you, satisfied with what we have and what we gets. I wish I had that in me too but I don't. Anyway there is nothing wrong with how you are now and if this lifestyle makes you happy then you should stick to it

Hello Thatgirl, Thanks for appreciating my attitude towards life. I find my attitude to be right but i have seen people running for money even though they are earning well to suffice their needs leaving behind some important things like love, friendship, relationship which are equally important and cannot be bought from money.

After reading many of the answers , I still see they missed a point : making more money leads to more waste of money. Your friends maybe make more money than you are but they waste more money for example : they buy better computer , many house decorations , pay some one to clean their house and many expanses that one can avoid. Knowing how to save money is like having a second job without wasting time for it. Don't forget that your friends may have less spare time than you have and who knows ... maybe they don't think about their future when they will get old. Think about it , saving money and time is like a better job.

Hello Stringer, You have a point my friend i also have observed when we earn more money we tend to spend more in that ratio and when we earn less money we try to save every single penny from our earnings.

I am happy that you are not the one who run after money though you prettily understand how money can change our life. I feel definitely you can get a good job with a higher salary but just do not compromise/ settle for a lesser salary in the next job that you take up. As the cost of living is going up day by day it is very necessary you think of future and make some savings plan for you as well as for your family, children's career, retirement, why not even save for a world tour friend...

I didn't have much of an education as I quit school after grade 10 and I am sorry I did. I know it is never too late to go back to school but it is so hard to do. I wasn't making very much money working for other people since I didn't have an education and couldn't find a good job. I am now self employed thanks to my mom. She was married to her second husband when he got transferred to another city in another province. She started a business cleaning houses and was very successful with it. I was 18 years old when she moved and I moved in with my dad, instead of moving with them. After 5 years her husband got transferred back to the city I lived in and so my mother asked me if I wanted to move and take over her business. I was more than happy to do that since my life was going nowhere and I had no prospects of making good money. So I moved and started making good money and my mom moved back with her husband after training me. After 2 years my mom left her husband and moved back to me and we are working the business together and doing very well. I think the only way to make good money, unless you are professional with a degree, is to work for yourself. Most of my aunties and uncles and my brother are all self employed and making good money. Happy mylotting my friend, littlemissy signing off now.....

Hi Sjvg, Are you earning enough to get by? Are you happy in your job and in your life? I would not go in search of a better paying job simply to compete with my peers. I do like money but it isn't the most important thing in my life even though it does rank right up there in the top 5. I am not rich at all and with the economy the way it is, I actually have to be real creative in my budgeting in order to get by but we do. I do love my job and I have a great boss. That's important too. Some would say it is a stupid job. Actually a lot of people have questioned my choice to stay there. I used to work as a claims adjuster in insurance and did make more money. I loved it but I was ready to give it up when I did. I had gotten really tired of all the office drama and while that was not my reason for giving it up, it was my reason for not returning to it later on. If things get too tight, I'll just find something on the side to do to add to my income.

Hello Sid, Thats right dear i too have a nice job and presently i am happy with the job and off job life.I also think i should not compare myself with others as they might have sacrificed something to reach that situation.I also don't give priority to money in my life there are other things in life too which must be seen first rather than money which goes and come by our own efforts.

Hi friend... i am also similar to you in some sort. I a professor and most of my colleagues are running after money who makes me thoughtful. some are busy with private tuitions rather than concentrating in college classes... more over always think about increments, arrear pays and so on.... most have the wives as professor still they have lack of money.... you know some couple earns here more then 1 lakh INR per month, still they are poor... have a nice time.

Hello shibham, I also have lots of people in my circle who want to earn more and more money and see money in dreams they always find one or other ways to earn more money.I also have seen several people who are earning well but they always keep on worrying about money. For them money is everything nothing else is important than money in their lives. But they forget they cannot buy something like love, friends, relationships from money and these are equally important than money or sometime more important than money.

As long as you are happy with your job and give you enough salary to sustain your family needs and having some benefits it's fine then. If you are secured with the company and you are getting every incentives why leave your job. There are people who has simple dreams and simple way of living but are contented and happy. While, there are people who are rich and having all the luxuries in life but doesn't have peace and happiness in life. It is your choice...and think twice before leaving your job and search for a job with a bigger salary.

I agree that if you are happy with your present job, and your family is not hurting financially, there is no need to compare yourself with others and try to be like them. In the US we call that "keeping up with the Jones," and it's not considered a virtue. From what you've said, you are able to be close to both your mother and your work where you are. That is important -- especially as your mother gets older and may need help from you. I moved away from where my mom lived several years ago. It wasn't so important when she was younger, but as she got close to 80 I knew she needed me closer so I helped her find a home close to me. One big reason we moved here was because we lived 6 hours from my inlaws and they needed my husband closer. We could not afford to live any closer to them because of the cost of housing in their location, and we couldn't move in with them because I could not move my business that easily and it wouldn't be legal where they live anyway. Now we are just two hours from where they lived. In the end we had to move his mom here for her last few months. It's good to keep the family together as much as possible -- especially if you are closedly bound in hearts. Money can't buy a supportive family around you. Another thing to consider is the time it would take to commute to a job farther away or if you could afford to move closer to a new job. Does your wife want you gone all the time? Some women can't handle that. I could probably make more money if I got a "real" job, but we have enough most of the time, and I'm like you. There's nothing more we really need unless someone gets very sick and the medical bills have to be paid. Think very hard about making a change during this economy just to buy your family things they may want but don't really need.

Hello bagarad, I also beleive in it that unless and untill i am financially down i should not compare myself with others and should not think that they are earning more than me.I also beleive i am better than millions who are millionaire but don't have the pleasure to live along with their parents and brothers they cry for it but i am happy because i am getting both the things and should not think like it. I know if i get a job far away from my home my wife wont allow me to go there as she knows how much i meant her in her life.
