Do you like to travel on your own or with the tour groups?

I like traveling very much. But I usually travel on my own, or with my friends. We plan the trip and arrange accomdation ourselves. Only once I've travelled with the tour group. It was so hurry. So how are your experiences on this? What are their advantages and disvantages respectively?

I've never traveled alone. Sometimes, I travel with friends but most of the times with family. My sisters are my tour buddies. Every year, we plan a trip wherever we want to go and bring our whole family with us. We always look forward to it ever year. :))

Wow, that's really a great way to know more about family members, improve relationships and have good times together. Good luck to you and your family.

I travel quite often, mostly on my business trips, within the country and also overseas. When in a foreign country, since I am not familiar with the places and the formalities, my business colleagues assist me on tours when we have the spare time. Otherwise, I have to join a tour group to visit places of interest in the city or the region.

I agree with you. When we are in foreign countries or unfamiliar environment, travelling with the tour group will be safer and more convenient. Besdies, if you don't have enough time, the tour group is a better choice, save time and know the new place quicker. Good luck to you!

I am an independent traveler and these days I take my two young children with me. I typically book my flight six months before my trip and then save up more money for my accommodation costs and sightseeing expenses. I read independently minded travel guide books to get an idea of where I will visit in that particular region. A tour group of adults wouldn't want my children on their trip. Not until my youngest kid is 5 years old could we go on a family tour. My advantage is choosing where I will stay. It is also being able to choose how long to spend in each destination. I can let my kids go to places they will enjoy like Scratch Patch in Cape Town. The disadvantage is only having me to carry all of the baggage. A tour can rush too fast and it can be more expensive than traveling independently. If I cruised around the Galapagos Islands I would need a tour but usually I am fine on my own with my kids.

Yes, I am an experienced independent traveler and my kids now come on my trip. My disabled son now 4 years old has happy memories of Colombia. It was special to celebrate my daughter's first birthday in Victoria on Vancouver Island.

So you must be an experienced traveller as you make great schedule before the trip. Travelling with kids means more luggage to carry and responsibility, but also more fun and impressive memories. Besides, they're growing up day by day, and one day you may find they can take care of you. So just have fun, no matter travel on yourselves or with the group. Good luck.

I travel with my kids always. Every summer me and my kids travel 6 hours to reach my hometown. Sometime we took the bus and sometimes by car. It is always fun to travel with our loved ones than being alone.

So your kids must have a very happaniess childhood. I didn't get the chance to travel with my parents when I was a kid. But I am sure I will travel with my child when I have one in future. Wish you happy!

I used to prefer travelling on my own. And there are a lot of reasons for it. But realities must be faced. If you don't know the language, don't know the country, and don't know where the interesting spots are, or how to get there, you are better off just getting on a bus with a group.

Agree. That's the reason why some people choose to travel with group.

I like to travel. But I don't like travelling alone cause I think that won't be so fun. I travel with family, special someone or friends. :) Advantages are that, you can enjoy the whole trip with them, you can share something with someone and so on.. Disadvantage.. hmm.. Not sure if have. :)

I almost always prefer to see the sights on my own rather than with a tour group. It's one thing to have a guided tour of an attraction, and a whole different experience to be in a tour group that gets on a bus (or whatever) and only sees the sights that the tour has said will be shown. I might not want to see everything on their list, and there might be other things I'd rather see in a new city. Also, when traveling on my own, I think it's to my advantage to more likely get the real flavor of a town, the side that a group touring probably doesn't get to see. I'd like to choose my own restaurant to eat at, and not one that the tour guide has picked out. All in all, I think I see, and meet, more interesting people and places than just going on their prescribed routes and agendas. I listed what I see as advantages, and the flip side of what I think as a disadvantage when traveling.

I agree with you. Travelling on our own means having much more felxibilities. We can choose the places we're interested in, find the local flavor foods, talk with different people and join their activities etc. That'll be more exciting than only following the travel agent's schdule.

I like to travel with the tour groups. Because I can save much money and I can have a full guide by tourist. Moreover, they'll guarantee the safe for us during the tour. I only travel own if I have a friend who know clearly about the place where we'll travel too.

Right, saving money and be more safe, they are two advantages of tour group. Then the travellers don't need to consider too many and enjoy themselves.

I prefer travelling with friends because I can talk with someone.I can ask someone to hold the camera for picture taking.Travelling with someone you love is more exciting, but if you are travelling for some peace of mind you can travel alone.

I see. Then you prefer the self-service travel with your friends. It'll be more convenient and interesting if you have someone to travel together. Then you can take pictures for each other and share excited feelings. Also, it can save money then travel alone.
