Knitting or crocheting?

The all-time question that crafters ask. Are you more of a crocheting person or a knitting person? Personally, I don't know anymore. I used to be strictly knitting, but nowadays, I think I'm edging toward crocheting. It allows you to do much more, and you can be more creative in your creations. But knitting is more "comforting", as it's more repetitive and seems to be the ideal relaxing thing to do...but maybe it's just me. So what about you? Do you enjoy knitting or crocheting? Or are you just not that much of a crafts person at all?

I never learned to crochet, I think it would be kind of cool to learn how to do though because to you can add more details and do a lot of different things. In my spare time I sometimes like to knit I think it is a good use of time

Thanks for responding! Knitting can be a great use of my time. Last Christmas, I knit/crocheted a different gift for each member of my family (which included my grandparents, so yeah...that's a lot). It was must better than going out and buying each of them a present, and they loved their presents, so it was time well spent. You should learn to crochet! It's super fun and is just as fun as knitting! Happy mylotting!

There are some great websites online and awesome videos to help you out. Try Ravlery; it's a great website for crocheting and knitting. Having someone not there to help you when you first start is difficult, but it can be done. Good luck!

I am more of a crocheting kind of person. I think it is easier. I disagree that you can do more with crocheting though. You can do pretty amazing things with both!! My dad has always been a knitter. (I know it is weird to think about men knitting, but he has always been really good at it!) Some of the patterns and things he can do area amazing!! I wish I knew more about knitting. I cant wait until it is cold enough around here to start crocheting again!! I have a blanket in mind that I want to make - a compliment to the one I made a few years ago. But its still too hot to start.

Haha. I started out knitting, and then learned crocheting many years later, and to me, I find that crocheting is more open, but obviously, you can do much with both :) I know! I have this cardigan pattern that I really want to try out, and it's starting to get to that weather here. It was 100 degrees a week or two ago, but now it has plummeted and we're getting pretty chilly weather. Too bad exams are coming up, or I would have started my knitting already. Ah well. Happy mylotting!

I picked up a pillow at a garage/estate sale that the husband had crocheted. Turned out he and his wife were in Iceland, he was stationed there, she came along, and there was this group of men that got together and knitted. So, he took his crocheting along and joined their group.

ElicBxn - that is awesome!! I love hearing that other men have done some crafts and things!! oXAquaXo - it had started to cool off quite a bit here. The last couple of days were quite warm. The next couple of days are supposed to be too. Its not too bad because the nights have still been cool. I cant wait until it gets much colder though!! Although, for the time being I will be thankful that I dont have to pay for the heat!

I'm a knitter. I've tried to crochet and just don't do it well. I've knitted for years and years and it's second nature to me. That's probably why I can't crochet! I agree about knitting being more comforting, but I think you can do a lot with knitting.

It's always fun to learn something new, anyway.

Yeah, you can do tons with knitting. I just feel as though with crocheting, you can make more unique things more easily...like flowers and stuffed animals. It's harder to do with knitting, but possible. I've knitted for so many years as well. I tried to begin crocheting, but it just didn't work. It seemed so different from knitting. I began and gave up. Began and gave up. Finally, I sat down and actually worked at it, and now I've got the hang of it! I'm still fairly new at crocheting, but I think it's fun and that both crafts have their advantages. Happy mylotting!

I don't like to knit, too much time to do too little work... Having said that, I love cross stitch!

Yes! Cross-stitching is another one. I had a friend who was really good at it, and made me a card-thing. I thought it looked really interesting, so I tried it as well, and found it a great source of entertainment. I don't cross-stitch as much as knitting or crocheting, but I do occasionally when I have the time. Happy mylotting!

I love crocheting but can't knit one stitch. I tried....but for some reason my hands won't work together with two needles....But I can crochet up a storm!

Thanks for responding! That's the exact opposite of me! I used to not be able to use only one crochet hook, and it became extremely confusing to me. But now I've gotten the hang of it, although after knitting for a while or not doing crafts for a while, crocheting can still get confusing for me, haha. I guess knitting just is second nature to me...I will never forget how to knit, no matter how long. Happy mylotting!

When I was a young girl I was taught how to knit and to crochet. I tend to agree with you that crocheting is easier and more apt to make creative things. Knitting is more complex and it is alittle harder to make the designs and like gloves and sweaters and such. Crocheting can be fun and interesting.

Yep. Crocheting is a good option for so many things.

Thanks for responding! Yeah, crocheting can really open the doors to many different kinds of crafts that you wouldn't be able to do with knitting needles. Don't get me wrong; knitting can be great for sweaters, gloves, pants, scarfs, etc. But it just doesn't work if you want to make a little flower or creative dolls, crocheting is the way to go. Both can be really entertaining! Happy mylotting!
