What countries do we represent on Mylot?

I've noticed that there are many different people here on Mylot from many different countries. It's so cool to meet people from places you've never seen or even heard of before! I am from the U.S., but I was born in China. So I know a little bit about both places, but I've spent most of my life here in the States. But my parents always wish to preserve their culture in our household, so we are always celebrating Chinese festivals and holidays and learning more about our heritage. I would like to ask you Mylotters where you're from and some tidbits of information about where you live. I think it's fun learning about new places and the different countries of the world.

I live in the northwestern United Stated. A state named Idaho and I live in the capitol city of Boise. Hundreds of thousands of people live here. It is famous for potatoes and we also grow seeds. We used have several lumber companies here but they have all closed down. Things do change.

Thanks for responding! Oh, I have a few friends that live in Boise. I've been there a couple of times, and it's a pretty nice place. Haha I've heard about the many potatoes thing, and yeah, I've heard about how the place is big on farming. It's actually probably a good thing lumber companies have closed down. They were probably doing a lot of damage to the local forests, so now they'll have a chance to grow back. Lol...just an environmental perspective. St. Louis is one of the cities with the most cities in the U.S., so we're big on the environment. Happy mylotting!

Yes, Boise is a great place to live. I didn't understand the 'St. Louis is one of the cities with the most cities in the U.S., so we're big on the environment.'--?

Haha...oops. I meant trees. St. Louis is one of the cities with the most trees in the U.S., so the people here are really proud and want to preserve this environment. But obviously there can be pollen problems in the spring and fall. So I guess there are ups and downs :P Happy mylotting!

Philippines is represented~ I am from Quezon City, and right now we have a strong typhoon. Before the year ends, we're expecting 5 more. We only have two seasons, summer (March-June) and rainy (the rest of the year). It's some place you have most probably heard of, so I would just give a trivia. Filipinos are the only ones who add "the" before the name Philippines when talking about our country.

Modeofevasion, Thanks for commenting! Those are some really interesting facts. 5 typhoons? Our coast would be annihilated by now. I hope you're ok after those typhoons! So you only have two seasons? If the rest of the year is called rainy, is summer the only few months you don't get rain? That must suck...I had no idea the Philippines were so rainy. My mom has many Filipino coworkers from whom I learned some things about the Philippines. And yeah, I've noticed the "the" before Philippines, but I had no idea you were the only country. Interesting stuff! Thanks for sharing, and happy mylotting!

I'm from the US, currently living in the suburbs outside of Washington DC. Obviously, this part of the country is very centered around the government and politics. In my opinion, the people around here take themselves too seriously :P I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and the dynamic there is much different. It's much more laid back in Pittsburgh, people are generally kinder and it's a little more "old fashioned".

Thanks for responding! Ah, yes, I love the east coast. I'm planning on going there for college. My dad went to college at Pennstate University...I don't know how far away that is from Pittsburgh, but I know he loves Pennsylvania so much and is planning on moving back there when he retires. He always talks about how nice it was there and how kind the people were. Washington DC! The center of US politics. I love getting involved in politics, so I guess living there would be kind of fun for me. But people taking themselves seriously would get pretty lame, haha. But I feel as though it would be more upbeat and exciting, especially when important political measures are taking place and you want to be in on the action. Happy mylotting!

I am from the US and have lived in Florida my entire life and enjoy living here i havent moved from cities and have lived in the same city my entire life and enjoy living here too. Alot of my freinds have also been here there entire life and living so close to the water it great because there are so many things i can do with living by the water and the beach being on 15 minutes away from where i live. Its beautiful here but you do get bored of doing things sometimes because its always the same things but i do enjoy living here since all my moms side of the family is here.

Thanks for responding! Haha, Florida sounds amazing. I hate being stuck in the boring midwest...I want to live along the east coast when I'm older. And I absolutely love the beach, so living so close would be such a plus! Most of my family is still in China. Only my direct family and an uncle lives in the States, so I haven't seen the rest of my family in 8 years! I wish to go back soon and visit them, and hopefully someday, they'll come to live here as well. So having family nearby sounds like so much fun to me. Happy mylotting!

I'm from Denmark, and been living here my whole life. I've been traveling in many of the European countries, and "studied" some other countries and cultures through the internet. I'm also speaking some different languages, including: Danish, English, Spanish, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Esperanto. Of course they are on different levels, more or less. If you want to know more, then you can find me almost everywhere around the internet. ;)

Thanks for responding! Oh, I love Denmark! Our family vacations in Europe sometimes, and I've been there a couple of times and it's so nice there! It's my mom's favorite country, haha. I've been to a couple of countries in Europe as well: France, UK, Denmark, Germany, Italy, and Sweden. I hope to someday go to Spain! Esperanto? I've NEVER heard of that language before, haha. Happy mylotting!

Hi scahinkukale, Thanks for responding! I know, I was excited about posting this discussion because I really want to learn about the different countries people are from. I don't meet very many international people here in St. Louis, so I guess in a way, this is my connection to the rest of the world. And so far, I'm loving it! So, where are you from? Happy mylotting!

I too am from the US, we live in west Texas. My husband and I moved up here from eastern Texas about a year ago, though I lived in this area of west Texas when I was younger. I have also lived in Arkansas. Of course we drive a truck (or at least used to) cross country so I have seen most of the US at one time or another. We are in the plains, and cotton country though as dry as it has been this year there is not much of either, lol.....we sure could use some rain!

Hello. I am from the Philippines and a returning myLot-er. Like your country, the Philippines is also rich in culture and heritage. Yes as of the moment my country is being hit by storms one after another in an interval of just days. The good thing about this is that a lot of people have been reaching out to help one another in the best possible way they could. We all depend on each other for support and it is during these times that we become more united. We may have had bad issues in the past but I guess it happens everywhere. Overall the Filipino hospitality will always be the trademark of my country.

Hi! And great discussion to start, it's great to learn more about each other and who participates in Mylot. I was born and brought up in Australia but my actual background is Vietnamese. So far I haven't been to Vietnam yet but I will go after my high school days are over. My family do celebrate Chinese New year and we have traditional Vietnamese food at family gatherings or parties. I pretty much live in a very populated suburb with lots of Asian grocery stores, areas my parents love to shop! I'm also 20 minutes from the beach too so it's great when it's a hot day and I could just drive 20 minutes to the beach.

Hi Triple0, thanks for responding! Yeah, I've met a few Australians here. It sounds like you have a very asianified culture...Chinese New Year, Vietnamese food, Asian markets...haha. Ugh, I wish we had more Asian markets here. I live in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri, so I rarely see any good Asian markets; we only go to one. And because we're smack dab in the middle of the country, I rarely see oceans unless on vacation. So count yourself lucky :P Happy mylotting!
