How long do you let a discussion run before giving a best response?

I know this a tricky question to answer as it does depend on what discussion content you start as some discussions are easier to answer and you get loads of answers and some you only get a couple, but on avergae how many days etc do you let a discussion run before awarding the best response? Myself depends really on what I have already stated above, but I think the longest I have let one run is about 2 weeks.

The best thing to do when we start a discussion is to wait for at least a week or so and then only select the best response usually some don't like to take part in those where the user has already got what they where looking for but giving a best response does not mean that the discussion starter want to end the discussion i think if our discussion is active even after months we should wait until the discussion get fully abandoned . we can select the br even after years so no need to hurry in giving those

I don't really start many discussion and tend to allow mine to run for a long time. I do have responses that come through even after months of having started it. At some point I do select the best response but can honestly say probably not sooner then a month if not more. It is not difficult for me as I do not start many and or more then one for a while.

Sometimes I forget to give it a best response. LOL I am more interested in people's opinions than in finding one particular answer.

I have noticed that several members have been going through my older discussions and commenting. I like to leave my favorites unresolved and see what responses I get. And some don't seem to have gotten the BR yet so I leave them. I used to let them run about 2 weeks too. Whatever feels right.

Hey Anne! I hate to admit it, but I haven't been very good about giving my br and resolving my discussions. I really need to go back through them and finish. I don't start many discussions, but I do know that I have to go back and give out br's! Shame on me! Haven't been around here much like I used to due to some heath issues. Will have to get back here more often!

i allow the discussion to run two days. i think it is the ideal timing to choose a best response. sometimes it takes more time than 2 days because no good answers have been posted.

I wait two weeks. I know sometimes I'm so behind in my inbox notifications that I get to some discussions a week after they were first posted. So I assume I'm not the only one who does that. So by the time two weeks have rolled around I figure that those who were going to answer my discussion have been there by now and done so.

I let it run until the responses slow down. If I look and see that the last response is 2 or 3 days old, I'll award the best response.

I have actually let a few of mine run way over what I usually do. I have been very busy lately. I usually wait until there has been 2 weeks with no activity. Then I choose one. I don't like to choose while the discussion is still active.

My usual answer would have always been a couple of months. But as you can see I am a bit behind in my notifications, and responses to my myLot friend's discussions. So, I am also behind in my awarding-of-BR's. I think I have a few discussions in my 'unresolved' tab which are more than 6 months old.

Hi Anne! Honestly,I still have many discussions for months ago that I haven't been given the BR yet,oh my! It's just that I always forget choosing the BR but when I already felt that I like the response,I sometimes immediately rate it even if it's just for days only.

Sometimes, to me it wouldn't make sense to give a best response, unless your discussion inquires something very specific. Many discussions I have started, I tried to be very general, resulting for me not looking for an answer, but looking to see what people's opinions are. When it comes to opinions there is no exact answer, and to choose a best response will probably be a biased choice or just cause you wanted to end the discussion. But yes, there has be some where I had to choose a best response as I was looking for a very intelligent specific answer, I left it for 2 weeks also, as the discussion thread had a good amount of intelligent replies, making it difficult for me to choose a true best response.

You know I do not give best responses on discussions! I usually just forget about doing that! When I do I usually let it go for a day or more! I don't get why people do some so quickly.

I usually leave it for at last two weeks as it is common to get some late responses and they very often tend to be the better responses.I do find it amazing that some people give a 'best response' marking after only a day or even a few hours!

I give best response as soon as I get one to be honest. I mean the one that is helpful and was right for me Sometimes I don't give best response at all coz I might have not found it as yet. But I have found that the best responses might pop in even months after you started the discussion

I don't really have a defined time to give the best response to a discussion. Sometimes I asked for something and a person gives me a complete answer, with more information that I can imagine in the next hour! After him, all others complement the idea, but the first one was the most important, so I really don't wait too much to give the best response. For real, I think I gave the BR on the next day. But it is too relative. Some discussions are open to you give your opinion. It is not a situation where one is better than other, so, for me, no one gets the BR. One opinion is not better than other, just different. Happy mylotting.

I guess it depends. I maybe choose a best response for as fast as a week, if I don't receive any more answers. But if I still receive some answer every single day, then I will have to wait until no one wants to respond anymore. :)
