Would you persue multiple job leads at one?

I had my interview today with Bank of America and it went really well. The interviewer told me herself that the interview went great, but of course she ended by saying she had more interviews to conduct and that I'd be contacted. I can't say whether or not I think I'll get the job. I have some hopes, but who knows really. I just checked my e-mail and now I'm being contacted by another bank (which is weird, I want administrative positions and I'm being contacted by banks.. strange.. oh well). They want me to respond to the e-mail with a resume and some dates and times I might be available for a phone interview. I'm just not really sure what I should do just yet. On one hand, I should continue to actively seek employment because there's no guarantee that I'm going to be hired at Bank of America. On the other hand, I don't want to get through the interview process with another bank only to actually be hired by Bank of America and have to tell the other company "Sorry, I have a job". To me that's disrespectful. I'm very excited about the Bank of America job if I get it. It's close to home, it pays well, offers benefits, and it's only part-time which leaves me plenty of time for school, family, and my other part-time job at Subway which I'm not yet planning on quitting (at least not until after Christmas if I can hold out that long). As for the other bank that contacted me today, it is further away, about a 30 minute drive, but aside from that I don't know anything else like if it's full time or part time or what it pays. They asked me to send them my salary requirements and what I'm currently making. I certainly don't think I'm willing to drive half an hour each way only to work a 4 hour shift and not get paid much more than I'm currently making at Subway. Or maybe I'm just being negative about the 2nd job offer because I have my heart set on getting the Bank of America job, even though I don't know yet if I'll get it? Would you continue to actively seek other positions while waiting to hear back about a great job you want, or would you just wait and see what this job says before sending resumes to other positions?

If it was me, I would persue any and all possibilities that existed for me until I actually found a job. Most of the time you won't end up getting the jobs that you have interviews with, and in the rare case that you get more than one job offer at the same time, you can choose the one that will work out the best for you. I wish you the best of luck with the job that you've already interviewed for, but if you don't, make sure and keep some options open.

hi katsmeow! if i were you find another job and continue sending a resume to other person because if you will wait and wait and until it comes that you are waiting for nothing :) it is much more better to have a reserved which mean to have many options :) it is much more better rather than choosing for nothing right?

My mother always told me not to put all of my eggs in one basket. What if there was a job I really wanted, but no one ever got back to me? I'd waste my time waiting. I'd find a bunch of jobs that I want, put feelers out on all of them, and take whichever one I get first. I might not get a few of them, or I might get two or three who are interested in me. Whoever gets on the ball first and hires me, is the job I will take.

Humm nice discussion, well i would certainly apply for another job if i don't here from the bank for a couple of days. In a situation where yo get a call from another source for a job and you have already applied in a firm. I would stick to the one because applying to another is very disrespectful as you said, and also there may be very little chances for you to get in, if you do the two job thing. So my suggestion to your view will be stick to the bank of America, don't think about the other bank. If your not sure about the current one which you have applied don't take any chances get the opportunity you are getting. Don't think what the firm will think after all its your life. Professional life doesn't make any sympathy. So do your best in the job. All the best from my side. Hope you get placed very soon.

So this is the next step?! I'm still hanging... I'm glad that your BA interview went well. I've been to a lot of interviews too (me, jaded) to know that it's always HR policy to interview other candidates as well. And yes I would. I would pursue other job leads even if the one in front of me is already looking promising. For me, until I have the offer on my hand, I wouldn't discount other offers.

to try to reach multiple job proposals gives you the opportunity to get one of them. i think it is the way to go. part time or not jobs these days are scarce and very hard to find. so i would try almost anything to have one.

It is not disrespectful to at least send a resume and salary requirements. If your name is on a website they have to know you will be receiving other offers as well. It is business. They would not take it personally if you interviewed and then took another job. With the job market as bad as it is, you need to keep pursuing whatever comes your way and might fit.

Yes that is true, though I don't see this one working out as well as the other if I'm offered the position. As I said it is a bit of a drive, but if I'm not offered the first position it would be wise to have the second lined up.

I don't know if you have heard anything back yet, but if you have not I would keep on with the interviews. It's better to keep your options open until you have something definite. Who knows, they might end up fighting over you!

I know this comes a little late seeing as you got the job, but... Yes, I would. I don't think it's disrespectful to do this. After all, most employers don't usually go with the first potential employee that they met. They meet with several and then decide from there. We (the job seekers) should be able to do the same and not feel obligated to a job lead, even if the interviewer told us that "the interview went great". Now if the interviewer hired us right on the spot, then that would be different, because then we'd know for certain that we got the job. Just my two cents. Happy mylotting!

yeah.. I sent the 2nd bank my resume and gave them a time to call for a phone interview, like they requested. I told them yesterday or Monday.. but the time frame I gave them on Monday, I already made other plans for so I won't be home. Oh well!

I personally would keep on looking just in case. It would seem kind rude to say "Never mind I have a job.", but at the same time you do not want to pass up the opportunity to interview for the other one in case the BOA job does not come through. I know I went for and interview at Krispy Kreme about an hour before I had orientation at TB. I ended up getting the KK job as well. As you know, I actually decided to take both jobs.

Yeah, that makes sense.. at least keep my options open instead of just waiting for something that doesn't come along.

Look, I'm less than a month behind. lol Of course it's OK to go for the other interview. What if you don't get the first one. The people who are hiring have no qualms about looking at other candidates, and neither should you.

I would probably continue looking for incase you don't get the job so you don't blow your chance with the others. Hopefully if you do get the bank of america job that they let you know before the other one. Good luck. Hopefully you get the Bank Of America job.

Wow.In my opinion, i think if you want to wait, you can wait.. And if you are hurrying, i don't know maybe you are in the wrong directions. But still you try,you maybe accepted, and that is great for you..

You should apply for more than one job at a time, even if you get interviews for each then you can decide which may be better suited to you. A lot of business's now don't even bother to reply at times, and that leaves you not knowing how you went with it. Keep on track with wanting the bank job you want, it will work out if you keep asking the universe for the job you want.

I live in the UK, and there are around 20 applicants for each job that is open at the moment. For the low grade jobs, there are even more applications, and this means that people have to cover their own backs by applying for multiple jobs at the same time. The worst that can happen is that you would have to turn something down in favour of another job, and they would almost certainly have another candidate who they would be able to offer the job to instead of you, so you shouldn't worry about having to do this every once in a while.

I definitely would continue looking for a job until you are hired. I appreciate you want the B of A position, and I wish you success in obtaining it but to keep yourself in the job market until you finalize a deal is the way to go. It is not disresepectful, it is taking care of yourself especially in this job climate..All the best!!!!
