My poodle gets car sick, how can I get her more accustomed to it?

When I got my poodle, I originally planned on her being a go-along dog with me, but as she grew up, she became car sick, every time she rides in the car. I even have to give her dramamine in order to get her to the groomer or the vet. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can help her get over her car sickness?

My previous dog, a lovely Jack Russell, also got car sick. this occured right from when she was a puppy. We worked out that she could only be in a car for 10 minutes and then the vomiting would start. My only solution at the time was not to take her in the car. I had not heard of car sickness medications for dogs then. I am sorry that I can not think of any solution.

We had a mutt who had this problem. We gave him children's Dramamine by the weight dose and then over time slowly decreased that by half until he could handle the car ride. Though if we went too long without taking him on a long drive we would still need to give him a little. Miss that lil' guy!

it was more a matter if the trips where too long in between then distance. We had a spring while I was pregnant that I could not go anywhere other then the Dr, so he was home with me always. After three months of no car rides it flared up again.

I see, so it helped to decrease dosage, except he always had problems on a long ride. I wonder if having her in the crate affects her. I keep her in a crate in the car so she doesn't throw up on my upholstery. I should try that by throwing an old bedspread over the seats.

I'm not really sure. they may have some medication for dogs to take for riding. I know they have it for humans so they may have it for pets also.

DRIVE SLOWER ! haha get her accustomed riding in a moving object little by little. Also give her therapy from professional vets. That we she can overcome that fear. Also take her on long walks, or even jog with her. Just let her get accustomed to moving slower or faster. Some dogs even like fast driving

I don't want to keep her on medications - hahaha. I would like to get her past the sickness as I want her to go with me regularly, and it wouldn't be good to have her medicated all the time.
