Do you feel sorry for animals that sleep standing up?

Horses, Cows etc sleep on their feet. I think they may be comfortable since they were made to sleep that way. Do you think that this is uncomfortable for them? Do you feel sorry for them?

I am posting my response although you have already chosen the best once because, this discussion has caught me by surprise. Since childhood, my family has been raising plenty of these animals. And yet, i never knew that they do sleep on their feet. Horses, cows...many more animals know how to lay down to rest on the ground. So i was thinking that they do lay down when they sleep. Gosh, i must thank you for opening my consciousness on this matter. Until now, I am raising my own animals and i have zero knowledge on this matter. For the meantime though, I do not have the luxury of time to spend with these animals for some years now, in fact. I live so far away from the farms and how I relish those joyful days. Maybe months from now, i will be able to hold some of them again.

I am very happy to have done this for you my friend. I would someday love to have farms of my own.

It feels bad knowing that they do that, but if they are comfortable with that then we cannot force them to not do that..=D

I think it might be uncomfortable for them but I guess they like it that way. I do feel sorry when people push them over while sleeping though.

Yes I do not like when people do that either. I have to wonder what kind of person gets pleasure from such acts.

I did not even think of it. Now that you've mention it, I now realized what if we are raised to sleep that way, are we to be sorry then? Maybe it is uncomfortable because we are not used to it but then those animals are born to sleep that way. How about the fishes that doesn't even close their eyes when sleeping and imagine, sleeping under water?

You really make an excellent point my friend! It really makes a lot of sense since they were born that way. Thank you for such a great response!

Well if it wasn't comfortable then they wouldn't be sleeping like in the first place would they? Some animals were created to sleep while lying down, some sleep upside down like bats do and some prefer to sleep while standing up. I had a Budgie who slept perched on his stick and he could do that without falling off. He's adapted to this kind of thing and he snuggles his head on his back. He looks very comfortable. Sometimes he sleeps with one foot perched on the stick. Even though it may seem uncomfortable to us, it may comfortable for them instead. I've seen people who have been really tired and slept while standing up.

Sleeping while standing up That is some extreme tiredness! You make a great point Triple0. They probably wouldn't fall asleep if they were not comfortable.

Anyone who loves their animals feel sorry for them but as soon as all animals sleep means they see fit so.
