Do you think fairy tales ever go out of fashion?

I don't think fairy tales will ever go out of fashion, I think they just go round in a round robin sort of way, and espically at christmas time when the pantomine comes to town espically as most pantomines are very loosely linked to a fairy tale theme. Last year when we went to the pantonime in was Cinderella, it was very funny. Not sure what this year's pantomine is as yet. Even now now my children are older I still like to read all the fairy tales that were read to me and what I have read to my children. Its very good that each generation enjoys the old fairy tales. My children when young were amazed that I had the fairy stories read to me when I was a girl.

I don't either. Fairy tales are ageless. Sleeping Beauty and all of those. It is terrible that kids think their parents are so acient. I enjoy reading the old fairy tales. Even tried writing one but lost interest after a while. My friend wrote one for her sister called The Blue Fairy.

I don't think that they will go out of fashion. I have been woken out of sleep at about 3 am to be skyped through to Qatar to read fairy tales to the school that my grand twins attend. They put me on a big screen and I really ham it up and perhaps modernise it just a little as they are 4 to 5 year olds. They love it and I love to see the expressions on the faces of the children as they are enthralled. A special pleaeure to hear the twins explain that I am their grandmother but they call me Cynthie not GM! So I have a class of little ones waving and saying 'Bye Bye Cynthie. Come again' So I do. They draw pictures and send them to me etc. Makes me feel a bit closer to the twins.

Wrong picture. I am up with hair done and make up on having drunk a cup of coffee to wake me u. the skype at their school is beamed onto a big screen so that two classes view me at the same time. It is an International school where my DIL teaches and they are kids from about 30 countries other than Arabian kids. My GC speak Arabic and are learning French this year too but also pick up a smattering of German and Dutch. They are 5 years old. So I have to look my best for my grand twins! and yes, I do show them the pictures but am of Irish blood although born in U.K. So am just an old story teller at heart

I'm picturing a rather sleepy grandma in her PJs and robe with not even a cup of coffee before appearing on screen to entrall her young audience, Do I have a right picture or wrong picture? I never turn my web cam on with Skype, but maybe you need to show the kiddies the pictures as you read.

I would not like Fairy Tales to go out of fashion. When my daughter was very young I often told her fairly tales, or more likely, read them from books. They have made some great movies of fairy tales now. I think the fairly tales help the imagination in children develop. I know that many fairly tales are racist and sexist, and as my daughter got older I explained that to her.

Fairy tales reflect the times that spawned them. They are a part, if you will, of our historical heritage. Today we think we know better than all past generations, so we rewrite even history to reflect the politically correct values of today's elites. But the fight of good against evil, and character against pomp and power endure today, and we still like seeing the youngest son, looked down upon by all, use his wits to rise to the top.

Right, fairy tale will never go out of fashion, as in our present world, there is a fool and sucker born every ten minutes, so there are always people want to believe in fairy tale and enjoy all the myths come with it whole heartedly. It will never cease to exist even though human civilization continue to progress and modern society evolve over time.

Yes I agree with you bagarad, fairy tales are fairy tales and they are an form of getting away from everyday life sometimes even though there are some morals within some of the tales. And who has heard of animals talking english etc to an person... you know what I'm trying to say

I think you may have missed the point of these tales. No one expects children to believe these tales literally. But they do show that the youngest son isn't always the fool people expect him to be and that he can use his brain to get ahead of the older brothers who have the inheritance. In fairy tales people make their own opportunities to rise above the postition they are born to. Children use their wits to solve problems. Wits and bravery and perserverance are used to win the princess and get ahead in life. Good character is rewarded. Evil loses. Every good human heart yearns for equal opportunity and to see good triumph over evil. That is why these are timeless.

I don't think that fairy tales ever go out of fashion. The reason that I believe this to be the case is because there are always children in the world that are just hearing the stories for the first time. Take Disney movies as an example, one of the top grossing movies in the last several months has been Lion King 3D. This is just like a new story to children of today because it has been a couple of decades since the movie was first released.

I don't think it would go out of fashion cause fairy tales are the tools for every mother to let their children know the good from the bad. I do read fairy tales and watch movies like "The Enchanted" cause I want to remind myself to be hopeful all the time no matter how harsh life seems to be.

It would be a shame if fairy tales went out of style. I like how they capture the innocence of youth. And it is escapism in its purist form. I think too often parents like to bring their kids into the real world these days too soon. They start reading book about serious topics way too early. I understand books that help children deal with bad things that happen to them, but have you looked in the children's section lately? Depressing. Long live fairy tales!

I know what you mean when I have gone to the library and tried to get some books for the children... what do you choose, so much rubbish there, the older books etc are better than a lot of new stuff. BUT there is a lot of good new stuff as well, you just have to hunt for it

So long as they strike a chord in the human psyche they will be around. Hansel and Gretel, is abandonment and talking to strangers... Red Riding Hood is another talking to strangers tale...

I grew up listening to and reading fairy tales. My mom would read it to us just before we go to sleep. Now my sister-in-law is also doing it with her own kids.

I always used to read to my children at bedtimes and sometimes before they went to school in the morning if everything was done in time. Even now my 12 year old daughter likes me to read to her every so often.

I wuld like to think that fairy tales will never go out of fashion. It is through some fairy tales that we find he courage to go after our dreams. It gives us something to believe in and what what can be out fashion about that?

Well if they keep going on as we all say they will then we don't have anything to worry about, they will be here forever, which is very good

No I really don't think that they will. As long as there are children around, who long the mystical wonders that fairy tales offer, that have the imaginations, the innocence, to get lost in a world of wonder, there will be fairy tales to some extent. The tales being passed around from generation to generation to say the very least. There are a lot of times where things go out of fashion but this is one of them that I don't think will. There are a lot of times where these tales are something that are a time of wonder, and it is still something that rings true together. Escapism and imagination is a very true thing that has not gone out of of fashion. So neither will fairy tales.

Personally I love fairy tales and until now I have never outgrown them and I don't think I ever will. My daughter loves when I read her those stories like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and/or Beauty and the Beast and personally I don't get tired of seeing the movies nor reading the books.

Fairy tales I reckon will always last. They'll be passed on from generation to generation. If you were introduced to fairy tales as a child, high chances you'll tell these fairy tales to your kids and your kids will pass them to their very own kids. Nothing beats a good fairy tale, it builds upon the child's imagination in world of magic. People are still making modern versions of fairy tales to appeal more to the modern day kids but they are still fairy tales with a new twist but I like the classics better. These fairy tales produce such a great plot for movie makers and they're great to tell to your kids. I don't think they'll ever get out of fashion, if it did what stories will you tell your kids then?

I don't know what stories we would tell them, we would have to write our own fairy tales!!!!! New ones to be carried on if they were good ones

I also don't think that fairytales will go out of its famosity. This will be carried to the next generation and the next. Fairy tales are good and it can easily catches attention since there are a lot of lessons that you will get from it. Many children like colorful dresses of fairy tale characters, too. That's why these will be like a living legacy.

When I was little I had a tiny hard bound copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales and I loved it. I loved the stories of Gerda the Goose Girl, Snow White and Rose Red, The Twelve Dancing Princesses and the Princess and the Pea. There was also the Seven League Boots and many more. My kids didn't read them and I thought those old stories were pretty much gone.

I myself do not think fairtales will go out of style. Disney has made alot of them into animation movies like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Those will never go out of style just like the books! Disney movies are some of my favorite movies, too!

Fairy Tales are good because we know them so very well its very eay to think the story in your head if you waiting for something to happen. I find that when I'm sitting in the car waiting for the children to come out from clubs etc and I have forgotton my book to read I very often think about fairy stories, plus they are easy stories to tell your children if you are in a hurry as we all know them

No fairy tales will always be popular. They tell about a time, a world long before ours. They tell about how to solve problems and how to get what you want (and this is not by sitting in the ashes, staying home and obey but get out and go for that prince to give yourself a better life). Personally I love fairy tales, all kinds of and from all kind of countries. Interesting thing is that many fairy tales are the same only some parts are changed. Might be because of a different culture. I love to read fairy tales but more of all I love story tellers. Especially if they are great in telling (not everybody is great in telling a story or has the voice that fits to it). A great story teller will make every story alive and takes you right back into the middle ages (my favorite age).
