No one bathes without a soap...!! I came across many families who use a common soap for their bathing purposes. How about you - do you have an individual soap or us the soap as a common one to all in the family. Please share your comments....

Well my family and I shares soaps. I think it's okay since we know each other very well, we eat the same stuff, and I think we are pretty much healthy. We have been sharing soaps for almost 21 years now and nothing bad came out from it.

Well I think sharing with family is not so risky as if a family member would get sick, everyone in the family would know. But sharing with strangers is another story as we don't know their health history.

I totally agree with you.. I still remember a Doctor who has advised a patient about the disadvantages of using a shared soap during my visit to him maybe around 40 years back. That I remembered and posted this discussion - where I could get sufficient messages from my lotters. Happy to go through these messages...

I use a body wash and I live alone so it doesn't matter. I used to use bar soap and everyone used the same bar. I look at that now and it grosses me out because I don't like the idea that I might get someone else's germs if they put the bar on their skin. If they just put soap on a wash cloth and used that to wash themselves it isn't so bad, but I think most people just use the bar on their skin. Have a great weekend!!!

Yes,what you say is right.... But, the most healthy way of using a soap individually is of high importance who ever worries about their health....It is not bad to use an individual soap..but most useful too. Have a great week end....

I think we are all- as people - going overboard over small things. Sharing soap is fine and as hygienic as anything else. There is no proof in contrary and no need to worry about it. Actually other than for special reasons, there is no specific proof that soap is needed at all in the first place, but that's another story:)( and one more way for companies to make money with a soap for this another for that, and one more just for this...one with vitamin E, one with nice smell, one with... it goes on) Actually, from what I read I learned that soap can accumulate bacteria of it's own specially if it's left in a soap dish and sits on water, and it seems to me, that if everyone uses a different soap in the household there are more chances of accumulated bacteria than if everyone uses the same, since it's used faster and has less chance to sit for long time. That said, people in general use soap and have their own preferences. Personally in our house we use shower gel, not because we're afraid of using one bar of soap for everyone but because it is convenient, less messy and it lathers well. People with specific skin conditions often use their own soaps just because they might not be appropriate for everyone in the family.

Your response is very much transparent and it is advisable to use a soap bar individually to keep away from any of the bad health conditions which people face....with common soap in the family. I prefer that and we always use individual soaps...

in our house right now, and even the time when i still live with my parents, we do not share common soap. each member has its own, and it is only my mama and papa who share soap with each other. that's why i get used to it and until now that i already have my own family, i make sure to it that each of my family's member has it's own. my 1 year old daughter has her baby bath soap, my seven year old has it's own liquid soap, my two house maids is also having them. when my husband is also around, he sometime share soap with me, although i would buy one for him. i just find soap a personal used like an underwear. and i don't like sharing it with anybody.

Good to go through your response....you seems to be a health conscious person and hence adopted this principle. It is more hygienic and also gives a personal touch for the soap being used. Even me to in my whole family we use an individual soap and no one uses others soap.. good thoughts - I appreciate that..

We now use only one bar of soap to all the family for bathing but I use to wash (!!!)the soap after each of us. When my boy was very little I used a baby soap for him. Our soap for bathing is a mild one, namely with aloe or milk or honey. I buy only two brands I like most because in case of other soaps I used to develop an allergy on the skin.

We usually use a single soap for the entire family. However, sometimes, my father would pick a special soap for himself from the store due to his highly sensitive skin. That is why at times, we would have two bars of soap in the bathroom. Everyone is free to choose which bar he/she prefers to use.

Yes,that is nice to note. So soaps do not get adjusted to some skins and they will have allergic problems. Always we have to make a thorough survey for the soap which suits us best, because it is totally linked with health as it is directly in touch with skin.

Hi busybee10, we use shower cream instead of bath soap nowadays. We haven't use bath soap for quite a long time for it's more hygienic and convenient. We just need a press or several presses to get the require amount of cream for body cleaning. Unlike bath soap sometimes hair or unseen tiny stuff may stick to it. It's really indecent if we forget to tidy the soap before leaving the bathroom. It doesn't matter if every single family member has their respective bath soap. Moreover shower cream of different brands and multifarious fragrances are available in the market nowadays Happy posting and have a nice day

DEAR FRIEND,nice hearing from you after several days.I really appreciate your thoughts on the problems using soap - WHEREIN bath soap sometimes hair or unseen tiny stuff may stick to it.YES THIS IS A PRACTICAL PROBLEM. And moreover using an individual soap is more hygienic and also keeps us safe not creating any healthy problems.. Even me too - I have my own soap separate in the house which no one touches to use it.

Hi busybee! I have my own personal soap. I don't like sharing soap with my family because I have a particular soap that I want to use which is not preferred by other members of the family. Even my mother use her personal soap because she prefers a particular brand. So, I guess it's about personal preferences. I don't like sharing my soap with my family, too. My soap will easily run out and I will have to buy many times instead of buying only once in a while if I'm only using it for myself.

I appreciate your thoughts......and that is more advantageous too .Because,I read many articles which advice to use an individual soap.Any how I understood that since you both are using different brands of soap according to your choices - that has really made to use an individual soap...nice..

we are only 3 person at home. my wife, our son and me. so we use a common soap. we have a bar bath soap and a liquid soap. but when i was still single at home we 5 children and i have my won soap. i dont use the soap that is in our bathroom. i bring the soap when i will bath and bring it back at my room after. thats what i used to do before. i dont know where my other siblings goes before they use the bathroom so i would rather not use that soap har har har. i know a family who use a common soap it does not bother me if that is what they do... if they have a lot of member in the family maybe they need to live frugal. so there is always a reason for something.

When I was growing up, we shared the bar of soap that was available in the shower. But I would lather the soap on my hands, then put the soap on my body. It never bothered me to share the soap with my family members. Now that I live by myself, I am the only one who uses the soap, but I usually buy liquid soap to use in my shower/tub.

Nice to go through your response....many people I found here who are preferring to use a liquid soap...I am unable to understand the advantage of this. Of course, I understand myself that using liquid soap is easy to apply on any part of the body, and it quickly creates lather too..what do you say...

We have two bars of soap in the bathroom one for the sink and one for the bath.I however tend to mainly shower and when i am doing this i tend to use showergel.I have used soap in the past and the only reason i dont anymore is because i get bottles and bottles of showergel for christmas much more than enough to last me for twelve months so i never need to use soap.

OK - I hope it is a well organized thought.Yes the choice varies from person to person and it is always better not to trouble others but have our own variety of soap which gives us lot of relief.... And I feel personally that using an individual soap is very much hygienic....

I prefer liquid body wash, instead of a bar of soap for washing my body. I find it easier to use, better smelling, and it feels better on my body. I don't like the smell of most bars of soap, it's just... soapy. Also, soap is quite slippery and hard to wash with. Body wash come in many good scents that do not have that soapy smell. Also, it is much easier to use, in my opinion.

We all share the soap, but there is two bars of soap on the bath side. A strong bar of cola tar soap which I like and a white bar of value white soap which is very mild as not everyone likes the coal tar soap. I do!! Thats why it is there but other people do use it as well

OK - that is something I could know through you...it indicates that all family members use these two soaps depending upon an individuals taste of the soap...this seems for an economical use of the soap...

I do share same soap with my husband since we both love to use whitening soaps. But for my little ones I give them a separate soap since they are using baby or antibacterial soap.
