Phone Scam?

This is actually pertaining to my land line but I just got a call where on the caller ID it said "Phone Scam" with a number from wherever. I didn't answer it but I was curious as to why it said "Phone Scam" on my caller ID?
Was it to envoke curiosity so you'd pick up? Not pick up? Or is the company under investigation and put that on the number?
I dunno I've never seen it come up in such a way.

I too received a call from a number, and the name said "phone scam". I answered, and it was some automated message trying to sell something, or get me to do something. 
I'm guessing it was a phone scam!

That's why I started this discussion as it would say something usually like some odd ball company w/o a local number or unknown caller in either case I don't answer. I wait for the machine to pick up and 9 out of 10 times they hang up.

Wow, this is the first I have ever heard of that. I have gotten one that said "Important" but I still did not answer it. I really like having caller ID.

I don't know if I have gotten such calls because we can't get caller ID in my rural area. Sure would be nice, though. I would love to be able to screen my calls without waiting for the answering machine, since I don't want to miss a call from a customer, but I'd like to miss all the calls from people wanting money or to sell me something.

Hi friend, good to know that your caller id, itself identified a phone scam. We can avoid this kind of calls using this identification. May be your phone network stored some scam numbers in their data base and your phone identified the scam using the list and shows it to you
