I have read books that I find to be extremely interesting. Some have brought me information that has caused me to see the world in a completely new way. Have you ever read such a book?

I never thought I would love historical fiction until I read The Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier. It was such an amazing story with full of emotions involved. I used to only care about fantasy, but now besides it, I am crazy about historical fiction.

In college I read "The Passover Plot" by Hugh Schonfield. That book impact my life all right--in a very negative way. It knocked down all of the religious doctrines I had grown up with. It was a bad time.

I have read many books in my youth, from the classics to pocketbooks and bestsellers, to children's books, and so on. One book though that, for the longest time now, I am still halfway through is the Bible. I am still on the book of Sirach in the old testament. Geez, but I am taking my sweet precious time nourishing the stories and the lessons.... Great book, that Bible is.

The Giver by Lois Lowry. We were assigned the book in middle school, but as the years went on and society became scared of creative, political type messages in kids books, it's been banned. I still read it from time to time, despite growing older and finding the choice of words simple. The book takes a beautiful look at one outcome of a society that believes it knows best for its people. It turns the world so "safe" and "secure" that its people blindly follow to the point of barely being human. The book's ideas are powerful and not for the faint of heart. I read this every so often to remind myself to continue being the radical in society; when you have the majority of a population agree to allow a minority to take control, you start to see freedoms and humanity taken away from the very population. It's a book that one can read whilst making comparisons to the government and how a country could possible go in a similar direction. I'm a big sucker for books like that, and I also read 1984. I have to say, I was highly unimpressed with George Orwell's take of such a world, despite that book being a classic. The Giver created a world that was so beautiful and perfect on the outside, but once you understood how it worked, things got a bit more...morbid. And sad. It's definitely a must-read.

The book "Room" by Emma Donohue has made me look at things differently. The story is written from the point of view of a 7 year old boy. He and his mother have been prisoners of a man, living in one room for more than 7 years. Imagine living in one room with such limitations, no choices, never seeing the outside. You can read my review here: http://bookstove.com/drama/book-review-room/ It is Thanksgiving Day here in Canada. After reading this book one realizes how much they have to be thankful for.

No book can ever be compared with the Bible. Its influence in everyone's life can never be questioned. Even those people who claim never to have seen even the cover of it, unknowingly have fallen under its influence on how their lives are reeling in real life. Our laws, our deep inner thinking, the people we are dealing with day in and day out ...they all have undergone some biblical teachings influence. Yes, there are books which we find to be so amazing. When I talk to people about places and animals, they are amazed at how I can describe them. So, I would get a remark about how lucky I am to have been there and have a first hand experience. But no, never have I ever left the Philippines yet until this moment. Now, in all honesty, I tell you that no book can come close to the Bible. You want to be amazed, you want to be informed, you wish to be knowledgeable...whatever, gather it from there first before entertaining the idea of mastering any other book at all.

Hi JosephP.. In all honesty I dont think I have ever read a book that has impacted my life in such a way, but I have read books that are very inspirational and memorable.. the first of many was 'Noughts and Crosses' by Malorie Blackman- it was a type of Romeo and Juliet kind of book.. but more based around the cultural side of things- racism.. It really touched my heart LoL.. (",)
