In India on ‘Dassera’ , also known as ‘Vijaya-Dashmi’; people burn the effigies of the 10 headed demon Ravana. Burning the statues of Ravana symbolizes that there is no place for evil when good is there. Dassera is celebrated with great enthusiasm. People celebrate the demolition of evil and celebrate the victory of goodwill on the auspicious day of Vijaya- Dashmi.
In my city a 30 feet idol of Ravana was made, it was beautifully decorated and filled with crackers, fireworks inside. Two boys dressed as God Rama, Lakshman came on an elephant in a procession and shut arrow at it, and the arrow had a burning firework at the tip.
The idol caught fire producing light and noise. My son had taken Subhee and the twin grandsons Aaasu and Nisu there; they were so excited, clapped hands.
See this video in which Ravana’s idol is set on the fire while crackers are burning.

The closest thing that we have to what you've described here is 4th of July, or Independence Day. It isn't a celebration of getting rid of evil, but it is a celebration that is traditionally celebrated with fireworks and things like that and with those, my children have always liked them. Paul has been fascinated with fireworks since he was really little and Kathryn has enjoyed them since she was old enough to start to understand them.

We do not have this Ramleela celebration Professor! We have a nine day Pooja and ninth day is very important when we invoke Goddess Saraswathi. We keep all important documents, books, musical instruments and do pooja. All gadgets are all worshipped and haldi kumkum is also applied on the surface. On Vijayadasami day, we take the books and read. There is a special Pooja during Navrathri where the birthday of Lord Vedanta Desikan is celebrated ; his birth star is Shravan and it mostly falls on Saraswathi Pooja or Vijaaydasami. I take a holy bath, make fresh rice flour mix it with gud and ghee and light a diya in this flour. This is a very important festival for us and a very important Pooja.
Earlier when I was in Tamil Nadu, it was very festive. My house was brimming with students and I used to give all my students who attended my music classes a special haldikumkum packet with a small gift during Navaratri. On Vijayadasami day, Students used to come with flowers and fruit and sweets and sing in my class; the students who attended my English classes used to be given a notebook and a pencil. Vijayadasami was one big grand occasion. I miss all that here though my one little baby grandson compensates for all that.
