What is a cult

With the smashing of Romney for being a Mormon and calling it a cult. I would like to point out a few things.
Catholics believe that a christian has refer to the Pope as the one who holds the keys to the gospel. So anyone who associates with a religion who does refer back to the Pope is not a Christian and is a cult. I.e. the Baptist ministers who brought up the that Mormonism is a cult, is actually considered to be a cult too from this definition.
Instead the minister who claims he is a christian because he believes in Christ, falls short on the point that Mormons believe in Christ too, i.e. the official name of the church that Romney is a member is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." And they do believe in Jesus Christ.
The Mormon church teaches a principle that Martin Luther himself taught. The true church of Christ is no longer on the earth. The LDS church believes that the Christ's church was removed from the earth when the apostles were killed off. And that the church was restored on the earth through a modern day prophet Joseph Smith. That the keys that was given to Peter was restored on the earth to start the work to usher in the second coming of Jesus Christ.

All religions are cults. People call groups like those led by Jim Jones and David Koresh cults because what they believed wasn't the norm. All religious groups brainwash their followers and are therefore cults.

The origional definition of a cult was a religion or worship order centered around a person or object. Remember all of the kids that joined cults in the 60s and 70s? There were all of these specialists who could "cure the kids" and get them out of the cult mentality. They went in and kidnapped the kids and held them in seclusion until they were 'cured', and then returned them to their parents.
There are a lot of folks who think that christianity in general is a cult worship system because they worship the christ figure. They do not accept King Constantine's decision back in 300+ CE, to make Mary a virgin and the christ figure a god.

The truly sad part is, there is an actual definition of the word, but far be it from Americans to actually care what words mean. ;~D
If I was taken to some secluded place to be locked away until I was sufficiently brainwashed and could only have the opinions and beliefs supplied to me by the leaders, then maybe I would consider myself a member of a cult.. but since that hasn't happened, and I've never heard of our church doing that, then I'll just consider anyone calling us a "cult" just sharing their opinion.

It's a conjugated noun: I have a faith, you have a religion, they have a cult.

Well, this is funny, from this definition, you basically placed every religion into the cult category because they all practice and do things different. One will say one thing about the Bible, and another will say another and differ on their interpretations thereof.

I attend a non denominational christian church.. It is really simple. We follow that silly little piece of literature fondly called "the Bible". Thats all. pretty simple really. Regarding politics, I am mostly open, I just want to make sure that my MORALS are being upheld. And sprinkle that with a little common sense.
