there is a saying that goes like "the tiny little whinny brain ant won't eat white sugar" which is pointing to health issue from using white sugar which is being processed using some kind of whitening chemicals to make it appear white in color instead of brown. white sugar as claim have lost the good enzymes like fibers and minerals needed by the body and what is left is an empty calorie, that when taken will make the body to adjust and borrow the lacking minerals from body parts like the calcium from the bones and teeth which deplete the body with calcium. with it also are traces of the chemicals like cyanide thing which they used as whitening agent...it's alarming but if you do not know about this issue this will keep you to prefer white sugar than other sugars in their natural state. for me natural and unprocessed sugar will do good for me and i prefer it than white or chemical processed sugar.

I've stayed away from all whites long time ago. I use brown sugar, eat brown bread and brown rice. I do everything I can to eat healthy. Sometimes i do fall out of the wagon cause see when me and my family go out to dinner those yummy desserts in restaurants contain white sugar. It's only once in awhile though...when the temptation is so high and all you can do is just give in. lol

Good for you! As a matter of fact, the darker foods are in their natural states, the more nutritious they are - As you have correctly said, processing and bleaching foods take away needed vitamins and minerals from foods. It is always smart to stay away from highly processed foods, even if it says such and such added or fortified.

We have both white and brown sugar here. But usually we just use the white sugar for cooking or drinking. As to the brown sugar, we hardly use it unless we make a certain kind of dessert. I love China

Hi! Right now, I am either using brown sugar, or muscovado, or honey. Cause they are healthier alternatives. Unfortunately, most sweet-tasting foods in the groceries have been mixed with white sugar so it's still unavoidably ingested by our bodies. Although white sugar has a higher price than brown sugar, white sugar easily sweetens and so you need only a little to achieve the desired sweetness.

I use to think the same way when I was younger that white sugar is okay if you don't take it too much. As I grow older I finally realize that washed sugar or the second type of sugar is better. Brown sugar is dirty I know this for a fact since the province where I grew up produce them and some factory workers let us in on their secret.

Some says it's more healthier than white sugar. My mom always buys brown sugar, and keeps telling me it's more healthier than white, because they use chemicals to make white sugar white. But brown sugar and white sugar are not different though, it's still sugar.. it's a misconception that brown sugar is healtheir than white sugar. Brown sugar is just not refined that well, but still they are the same, the color is the only thing that is different

yes they're both sugar as you proposed..but the issue is about the health benefits we get from unprocessed sugar is far more than the white or processed sugar..if your talking about the health hazard of taking too much sugar, well if taken in great amount any kind of sugar will pose a health problem like diabetes and other sugar related illnesses

They bleach brown sugar to make white sugar. Therefore brown sugar is more healthy than white sugar. To be safe the best sugar to have is natural sugars which are found in fruits like oranges and apples etc.

sometimes we think too much about things when that's a must have. You can get both organic white sugar and organic brown sugar both dark and light. These two things are the bases of all cooking and I think our companies that process them are the ones that cause any bad effects because it all came from the sugarcane.

There are different kinds of brown sugar. The good brown sugar is the one that is less refined. Some time ago, that sugar was less expensive as it was not as sweet. Now they change the color and one does not know if the brown sugar we are buying is the real unrefined thing or it´s just another artificial product.

I guess by the word 'brown sugar' you are probably talking about 'GUD' it is the solid mass obtained from boiling sugar cane juice.. white sugar is obtained from it, in sugar mills, they come in differnt cristal sizes and as powder too. We use white sugar in tea, coffee and indian sweets, in some soecial type of pan cakes we use GUD only, it has its characteristic flavor.. Thanks for sharing Best of luck. Welcome to mylot Professor

My Mom was so amusing the other day when she complains why her sugar is not white and ask for one. When her care giver told her, brown sugar is best for you she abruptly said, "Oh, in the '60's people say white sugar makes you healthy, now its the reverse!" I think what people say do change and people now know that they have been fooled and must change their old habit for the sake of getting healthy.

Brown sugar is more healthy but it should be the real one. Not the white sugar that they coloured brown again. That is what they do in some countries. So don't believe everything people say. Better check out first what you eat. The best, most healthy kind of sugar is the one you find in fruit. There is not really a need to use sugar btw. I don't think it's healthy at all, no kind we humans produce is.

sugar in fruits and vegetable are good sugar and the body easily absorbed them to be used by the body for energy..while processed sugar which are stripped from essential minerals do harm and poses some serious illnesses..
