Does your hubby or male partner have charge of the remote? Mine does! Yesterday, John and his Dad went to pick up our new Samsung HD3D TV from Comet and when John had set it all up (took him a while 'cos he was tired, bless 'im) he started messing with it, in Freeview, which was ace, and ended up watching some 'Highlander' programme..a new one that wasn't my cup of tea at all so I ended up back on my computer! Anyway, today (before the nice man came to install a new Sky HD box) I had a play with it myself lol and ended up watching something on BBC iPlayer as this Samsung is a Smart TV with lots of apps on it. I couldn't believe I was watching a programme all about coaches (buses) and how popular they used to be before motorways came along. I think it must've been on BBC Four originally but it was brilliant! No way would John come across that and watch it. The thing is; if we had Sky Multi-room I'd be Billy No-Mates upstairs and I don't want to go down that route (plus the expense of another TV) so I'll just have to watch something during the day..or at least TRY to get my own way at some point during the night. I think that "Hidden" is on tonight with the lovely Philip Glenister in it that I KNOW John likes as we watched the first part last week.. and I can't wait to see PG in HD! Apparently, the UK has the most HD channels in the world. Makes a change!!

The only TV that I watch nowadays is the News and historical documentaries (mostly on iPlayer). Occasionally New Tricks but that has gone a bit past its sell by date. If I had a new TV I'd want to hook it up to the computer and use that! The Boss watches soaps etc but they bore me rigid. Have fun with your new TV but don't forget to read the occasional book! Don't want our Janey going all square eyed on us!!

I am not allowed to us the "K" word here. That's the penalty for having an English graduate as a daughter. She thinks they are an abomination! I did at first, but am coming round slowly. I do read the odd book on my iPod Touch and it has relieved the boredom on many an occasion at bus or train stations or sitting alone in cafes. I think that the £89 one is the one that currently retails at £111 but is superceded by the new one that is more iPad like which will be £200. Of course I oughten't to know this but what she doesn't sknow won't worry her - I hope! LOL.

Good for you! The new Samsung HD3D TV adds lustre to your room.As for us,at night,my granddaughter has charge of the remote, she watches the kidvid with fixed eyes for about three hours.Sometimes,If my wife want to watch some TV serial ,she has to talk it over with my granddaughter.I don't know if you have heard of 421 syndrome about only child here.I don't mind, because I seldom watch TV.

You do right 'cos most days and nights it's rubbish..although seeing a decent picture for once, is a brilliant experience. I'm so miffed that Sonys have gone down in build quality as I've always liked those. Mum's is the oldest of the two in her house (Dad's was bought in February) and hers has the better sound..they've gone downhill since then and our Samsung isn't great for sound. This is due to the Sky box having Dolby (or something), an inferior sound in it and the TV itself has smaller speakers due to it being thin. The thinner they are the worse the sound. If my horrible ex was around he could hook it all up to my hi-fi system that has better speakers..his love of all things electric was his ONLY redeeming feature, believe me!!

Years ago I had a Hitachi Video Cassette Recorder and it was AWESOME. A really trendy machine for the time (1980s) that came with the portable TV it was designed to go with. Had it ages!

I think each type of TV set has its strong point and everyone buy what he likes. My previous TV set was Hitachi, existing one is TCL made in my own country. In my opinion,They are six of one and half a dozen of the other, but then I don't know what's what about those like you.

If you have Sky+ it'll record all the programs that you want. I'm just a bog standard Sky box person so I don't know if Sky HD is part of Sky+ or not

The box we have is a Sky+ HD box, so it's an upgrade on what my Mum has, which is Sky+ without the HD. Confusing I know! The Sky box we had before was a bog-standard one and was very basic compared to the ones that are out now.

I'm glad to see the back of the other one we had. It was so old you had to really press on the buttons (especially the 5) to get it to work. This one is lighter and more responsive..whenever I get the chance to use it, that is!

There is an adaptor for your computer that allows you to watch tv on your computer and even link it up to your box, that would allow you to do both, be online and watch tv, TV/HDTV Tuners allow you to see HD on your PC if you are uncertain about watching television on your PC there are a lot of videos online that explain not only how to do it but reviews on the performance and it is cheaper then a new television set (I think). This is probably only valid for those special days were both of you want to watch something different. I still haven't seen a lot of HD tv so don't know how much of a difference it is in relation to digital television, is it really that much of a difference? The arrival and full conversion next year to Digital Television has made a people think of buying a new television with built in tuner or cable system to allow for viewing of the new format. That is what happened to me I had a really old television set that was really minimalist, so decided to upgrade and keep the old one until it becomes obsolete, funny thing though is that there is a time delay between them, a few seconds at least which is funny as one is in the kitchen the other the lounge and it sounds like an echo.

Yes, the time delay is the same at Mum's as she has a TV connected to a Sky+ box in the back and my Dad has a Freeview TV in the front room. If he is watching the same thing (very rare) there is a time delay with them. However, if I have the same programme on as my Mum (and I'm 100 miles away) and she rings me up going on about something she's seen..there ISN'T a time delay. We're both watching it live, so to speak. Isn't that strange? On this new telly we've been testing the difference in picture quality from standard to HD and there is an improvement in the latter format. It all depends on what you're watching. Because we watch a lot of sport (Rugby was awesome in HD earlier on today) it will become worthwhile paying the extra £10 a month for the service. If anything comes on in 3D it will have to be a programme on the BBC channel (only been on at cinemas as an experiment up to now, apparently) as hubby would have to upgrade to Sky Movies if he wants to watch 3D on Sky, which I think is a bit mean of them, to be honest. He's been a customer of theirs for about 15 years!

Is Highlander still going?!? I worked on that back in the '90s. Adrian Paul is to for. Who's in it now?

Well, by the looks of it it was about 10 years old but it's as crap as all the others lol. Highlander is something I just never could get into and it just looked like a load of sword fights going on and not much else. Needless to say (true to form) there wasn't a plot!

I think I was watching a bit of that show about the "Golden age of coaches" last night..It didn't refer specifically to coaches being the cause, but they did mention before there was legislation to regulate the industry, anybody could have set up a coach company, and that the number of deaths on the roads at that time with relatively few vehicles on the road in the '20's and '30's was way higher than what we have today with a figure of (IIRC) 13 Million vehicles out there now.. I'm not watching that much TV,but I do have a freeview box..so this is a 3D tv you bought? Where I live,I'm only aware of 2 hotels that have bought one for the sports fans! (I'm not one of them,so have yet to watch a 3D tv show on one, though the glasses worked well on the "Preview" teasers I saw..) I'd have gone to see some of the 3D movies in cinemas, but I'm not going for a 3D Tv just Yet..Have fun with the new set!

I didn't realise it was from last night but anyway, we missed it "live" which is why I ended up watching it on BBC iPlayer during the day. This has proved to be a revelation as it's a bit hit and miss on the computer and I don't like watching it full-screen, whereas the telly..well, it's full-screen lol. The TV we got has HD built in plus 3D. There's a snag with 3D though as we would have to upgrade to Sky World in order to receive the 3D service. This would mean an extra £7 or so on John's monthly subscription but..with the limited content it's not really worth it. We may go down that route some other time but we've never had HD before so that has been brilliant in itself. There is one more item on my dream list though...a Sony PS3 as it plays Blu-Ray discs. I've never been a fan of the sound on DVDs and Blu-Ray is supposed to be like a proper cinematic experience. I've noticed the prices of the discs have come down too but - unfortunately, we have to put up with a bog-standard DVD player and VCR..yes, John still has his VCR!!! Haha!

I think that maybe in part because y'all TV system was already closer than many other systems. Its why TVs in the US can't use the old PAL program and many DVDs have to be region free to play anywhere, because DVDs set for English DVD players won't work other places...
