A new show this fall has already been canceled after only 3 episodes! The first casualty of the fall television season was "The Playboy Club", which aired on NBC. It will be replaced by a new prime-time newsmagazine, "Rock Center,".
In the meantime, reruns of the drama "Prime Suspect" will air during the time "The Playboy Club" aired for the next three weeks until October 31 when "Rock Center" will premiere.
It's really sad because I was getting into this new series. They had filmed 6 episodes already but were only able to air 3 of those episodes.
The show was set in the 1960's in Chicago, Illinois and centered around the employees (known as Bunnies) of the original Playboy Club in Chicago. The show included the lives of the Bunnies, some of the men that frequented the club, mainly a character played by Eddie Cibrian, members of the Bianchi family, one of which, the patriarch mob figure is killed by Bunny Maureen (played by Amber Heard) in self-defense during the pilot episode.
Actually, NBC continued filming the series until October 10, 2011, and hoped to sell the series to another network. Hugh Hefner and Chad Hodge, the series' creator, have both expressed hope that the series will be picked up by the cable network "Bravo".
Interestingly, some members of the cast, including Amber Heard, Eddie Cibrian, Jenna Dewan and Leah Renee, signed contracts that include nudity clauses. They cannot show nudity on network tv but nudity would be allowed if the series were to be on a cable channel or on a DVD release.
I was so involved in the storyline. The last episode left off with Bunny Maureen (Amber Heard) being picked up by Bianchi's son and given a "ride" in his car, so he could question her about his father's disappearance. Talk about a cliffhanger!!
Anyhow, I am hoping they pick up this series on the cable channel so I can see what happens next. It really was a good show and I'm sorry to see it gone.
Did anyone here on myLot happen to see any of these 3 episodes? If you did, what did you think of it?
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I was watching it too. I can't understand how a network can take a show off the air after only 3 episodes. For many, like myself, I was caught up in the story line and feal cheated that I don't know what happened with the characters. It was very interesting seeing how life was in the sixties. I also watch Pan Am and Mad Men and enjoy those shows too. I don't see how this show is really degrading to women, it just portrays how life was back in the sixties for women, etc. It is interesting to see how people dealt with things like they did.
I hope Bravo or another station picks it up. It really was written well.

There will be shows that won't be a hit. And there are shows that will despite the lack of known stars in it. One example of the latter, in my opinion is "The Big Bang Theory". Not a lot of people think it will be a hit.
I hope that you find some other show to follow that is equally good as the "Playboy Club"

What upset me was a show called "The Forgotten". It was on for only 1 season and they decided to cancel it. That was so sad because it was a really good show staring Christian Slater. You'd think that would have made it a hit. It was basically another cop show, but these guys weren't cops, they were volunteers that helped the cops find the identity of the victims, which in turn helped to solve the crime. I found it very entertaining and interesting, but apparently nobody else did.

I watched The Forgotten and thought it was a decent show. I don't think Christian Slater is big enough to carry a show on the weight of his name though. I hate it more when an episodic show gets cancelled before reaching its conclusion. An example would be Life starring Damien Lewis. It was about a cop who was framed for murder but gets proven innocent after 10 years. He sued the city for millions AND asked for his old job back. Most of the other cops don't trust him, in part because they know he's trying to find out who the cops were who framed him and why. Lewis's character was quirky too because he was always discovery something new that developed while he was in prison and also his personality had become eccentric from his time away. (Lewis was also great in Band of Brothers.)

I had not watched it, but heard they took it off. They said it was degrading to women. I have no opinion.

Unfortunately demoralizing women in television shows seems to be a common theme these days.

I haven't seen it. The ratings were terrible, so it wasn't a surprise that it was canceled. Sorry to see you might not get a chance to find out the conclusion.

They might run the last 3 shwos next summer when other shows are in re-runs. Since they paid for the shows they probably don't want to waste them, munless they can't find sponsors.

Well, I knew before this show even aired that it would not be graced with my viewing because I don't agree with anything that was going on with the Playboy Clubs during the 1960s and I tend to be a feminist to a certain degree and for that reason I don't like anything that is degrading to women.
While I wouldn't say that this was a great show since I never watched it, I will say that over the past couple years, there have been some great shows that have been taken off the air too soon.

The response to the show before it even started was intense, so it not surprising that it had a difficult start on the network. Hopefully it is picked up by a cable network that allows for the show to develop an audience. That or they release it in a one off box set. The fact that it even got made is amazing. This is the 3rd show based in the 60s there is it's opposition Mad Men (very successful) and Pan Am had a good start. These shows are as close to historical dramas as you can get. People forget how much the world has changed and stayed the same, so these shows allow for people to wince at what was traditionally accepted or even taken as truth. I have not made up my mind yet, which is the problem with these early cancellations, they do not have time to find an audience and even if I liked it or not it is always frustrating for someone who likes a show to not have closure.

No, and I'm happy it was cancelled. Shows like that should not be on regular television. I was so upset that whenever we were watching family friendly type shows we would still end up seeing commercials for that, while my children were watching. Why don't these network executives think about the children anymore? I miss the days where families could sit down and watch TV without worrying about what the kids might see in the show or during commercials. I try to be a responsible parent and only let my children see age appropriate telvision shows, but still, we have to sit through these commercials which are uncensored and not always age appropriate. It's so frustrating!
