I think I can live without mobile phones

Well at least when I'm at home... Without Internet (and laptop of course), life at home for me would be so boring. And before this Internet became easily accessible to us we used to get engaged with our mobile phones right? But now that we all are so hooked with Internet, do you still have the time sms or call your friends? It's not that I am not a good friend, but since I got busy with all the stuff on the Internet I find myself seldom checking out my mobile phone. I only get to see messages the next day whenever I checked if the battery is going to be empty and sometimes even missing the calls, I always forget to take my phone beside me. Although I bring the phone with me outside, I never get to use it everyday too. So I guess I can live without it, just give me a laptop or a tablet PC with an internet connection and I'm fine with it ^^

I am fine without cell phone too, I think as you do, and I can live only with my internet connection, it is the first thing I turn on in the morning, to check my mail, to hear music, to navigate a little in it, and the movile phone, I carry with me all the time, but is not rare that I disconect it, or put in silent mode, while on the pc.

I have the cell phone only for bussiness, I comunicate with my friends mostly by e-mail right now, or by social networks, I almost only get calls and messages from my customers, otherwise, I think I even wouldn´t have that thing.

Good to know that there are people here who does not actually rely on the phone. Once in my life I have said that I cannot live without it because it's really serves me quite good for communicating with friends. But with the Internet there are applications in sending SMS too. I'm not charge on it unlike mobile phone do =)

Funny I thought about this recently. My phone was damaged and I couldn't find anybody who could fix it. I spend a weekend phone-less and it was great! I didn't have to worry about anything or anyone asking me for something. I didn't bother to borrow a phone and insert my sim card in it so I could read the messages. When the phone finally got fixed and I turned it on the messages came one after another. I was back to thinking of problems of other people. So I thought I could totally do away with my phone if I really wanted to relax. The people I need to communicate with, I can find in another way. Sometimes I want to be not available for people to communicate with.

True enough, no phones means having not deal with other people problem... I also find it a little tough thinking about what excuse to make when someone calls or sends me a message inviting me when I actually don't want to go out. so without the phone I wounldnt worry about it ^^

Oh I feel that way sometimes, too! I remember on more than one occasion I had let the phone ring until the other person gave up and I just pretended to be asleep at that moment when I was asked about it. Bad bad me! But that was a guy I was avoiding anyway. There was a time when I decided to give my number to a several guys and then realized I didn't want to date them so on those moments I wished I didn't have a phone.

exactly... pretending to be asleep or doing some chores or busy at work are my usual reasons when I avoid phone calls from guys or sometimes friends, really bad but sometimes they (friends) have to understand that we also have one of those lazy moments =)... or we just don't wanna hang out with those guys

I also can live without mobile phones but during the times that my friend are busy with their work. They let me know that they will be busy this day and on that day so I do not touch my phone at all, i do not load it too. I use it as my radio though. I am not like that before that I am addicting to texting almost 24 hours a day and I cannot do my priority. Cellphone is bad for me. I can live without it too and I rather keep busy on something that will bring money to my pocket not putting out money. However, during our day today, no one can live without it. there should always be means of communication on every users of phone.

Yes, there are lots of ways to send message. I use chikka too. Even if I have load, I still use chikka and the only time I use my load is when I am not online. I just remind my friends to reply on me through my phone so that it will not less their load in a very big amount. Agree too, I can send them a message through YM so why use the phone. i use my phone at home and I use it to send a very important message only and when I get bored during the weekends.

I also don't put credits on my phone. I actually have two phones and I recently loaded one for some really important message to be sent outside the country. I was forced to load it but if it's not so important I wouldn't do so =) It's a waste of money sending quotes, we can always send free messages on chikka too, although it has limits but I can still go with it. there's also YM, Skype, email and other ways to communicate with friends =) so I guess mobile phones isn't so important now compared to Internet =)

The computer and internet are important for me. However, the cellphone plays the main role in my life, too. It is very convenient for me to access the internet by my cellphone by wifi. And it is much more portable when I go out. If I forget the bring my cellphone, I will feel I have missed many important calls and I will feel uncomfortable all day long. I love China

That's true youless. For most of the people now, they access the Internet through their mobile. As for me, I am always at home so I would prefer using a laptop =) And only connects to wifi when I'm outside or in the malls. But I don;t use for calling and sms, I use it only for important reasons. Hi nghiemhung91! Yeah I agree with you, playing so much games gives much stress too. And thank goodness I got hooked with myLot now... I now have managed to stop the games. "though I am still playing one. Well at least the other 3 games were totally stopped =)

I am a lot like you. I use the internet a lot, and I am often busy doing something online. I have a mobile phone, but I don't check it very often. When I go out I carry my phone in my bag and when I get home I forget my phone and just leave it in the bag. The next day when I check my phone I realize that missed some calls or that I got some text messages that I didn't read, because I forgot to turn sound on and just left my phone in my bag. In the beginning I sometimes received angry messages from my friends ("Why do you ignore my messages?" etc) but I never ignored them, I just forgot to check my phone. I guess L am not very addicted to my mobile phone

Internet really affects us so much. Sometimes I blame the internet for being lazy to go out, watching TV, reading books, and going out a lot. But without I don't think I will be occupied a lot of times, and there will definitely a day that I would feel incomplete.

Yeah! We have similar views on this too. I don't usually use my cellular phone nowadays. I'd rather do my communication with my other friends using my laptop and the internet. I really don't bother about my phone. This thing started when I started working. In my previous work, phones are not allowed inside the company's premises. That's why I was already used to not bothering with my phone. The habit already carried over with my new work, even though we are already free to use phones during working hours. I even forgot my phone a couple of times already and nothing really different seemed to happen with my life without my phone. So with this, I can say that I can live without mobile phones. The only drawback with this is that I am currently bonded on a postpaid plan with my network. That means I don't get to used much of the services I am paying for. Oh well, I am planning to cut it out once I am finished with the bond.

Yeah, yeah! I a know. That is why I always let my friends do some messaging using my cellphone. I think it will be a couple of months more. I agree with you, as I grew older too my texting usage of cellphones decreased significantly. I'd rather call than to text. I used to do forwarding messages and quotes to my friends when I was younger too. Those were the times that my load never was enough. But know, only important matters makes me use my cellphone. So now I am admitting I am old already! And so are you!

Aww you're wasting it, man! How long til you're done with the bond? Yeah it is unlike when we're still studying.. those times I love sending and forwarding messages even though my friends won't send me back or reply to my messages. Those times quotes are the "IN" thing! But as I grow old and got busy with work, I totally lost the interest of sending messages to friends. I use it only whenever there's really an urgent or important matter I need to convey with them ^^

I once heard on a television show, can't remember who it was that said it, that telephones are basically saying - Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me it's like someone is poking you until you answer. I understand the need for a phone, how many times hasn't it been a necessity, but that it intrudes on our lives is true too. The fact that certain cellphone providers allow for sending sms from computers to phones has changed the dynamic of sms' too, at times it seems that only if things break do we actually have time to step back and breath.

I do agree with you, too. It is really a necessity especially whenever there's important things to do or tell someone with the use of this technology. We only think it is not necessary when some other technologies are here. But when a blackout is there, I do feel a telephone and mobile phone is definitely necessary ^^

Mobile phones are playing an important part in our daily life for the convenience it brings us. If one day I forget to bring my mobile phone to the office, then I will miss quite a few call from my colleagues on campus though they can also call me by using the phone in the office. My colleagues are all used to making calls by using the mobile phones. So on my side, my mobile phone is important for me to connect people. Have a good day, enelym.

I agree with you on that... It varies on the persons profession or activities. Like if you are a businessman, mobile is really important and is the quickest way to contact your clients and suppliers. Emails are mostly use for quotations and other follow ups only. If you are a Sales guy or a secretary sometimes it is also important. So it really depends on us, for me it just isn't useful coz I am not working =) The last time I was working, I had to give my personal number to applicants and so when I resigned I had to change my sim so I won;t be contacted with them anymore =)

Yes we can do it on YM, FB or even skype.. we don't get to spend more and at the same time we can surf while chatting on them.. multitasking when they actually think we are only concentrating on them

Mobile are for easy communication. I can still communicate without using my phone, thus, I could live without them. In a usual day, I could ony received tow to three texts from my friend and I am not hurt for that. Most of them send me a message whenever they want some help but they could not ever text me, and ask if how am I doing. That's the reality I am just here to accept. And so, I can absolutely live without mobile phones.

I also don;t receive messages everyday, it is not like when I was out of the country that I really have to have a mobile phone. But here in the Philippines, sms and calls are said to be expensive so people don't use to call or send a message especially that there is internet at work and they can simply send me a message whenever they want to. Mobile phones are only used when they aren't in the office ^^

hey joannaleed ^^ I am also amazed by how people managed to survive without a telephone and computer. I remember having a land line at home before is really expensive, and if you have one you are considered a person who can afford costly things aka rich person ^^ but now I can;t imagine if these things are taken away from us - how do we get in touch with loved ones who lived far away. and I bet we here at myLot don't even get to chat with one another ^^

Some times me too think like that but there are at times who are not having internet are unable to contact us in some urgent situations. So it's better keep our mobile phone with us.

oh yeah.. i can live without it..either laptop or phones.I may live without it, but i may be crazy by now perhaps. :) yet i can still live.. :)

Personally, I could live without any technology. I would prefer to be on a computer, but even if I was the only living creature left on earth, with no more technology left in existence, I'd still be able to continue living. I mean, don't get me wrong, if it were that bad, I'd hate my life, and I'd find it hard to enjoy myself, but I'd still manage to amuse myself enough to keep life worth living. More seriously though, as long as I have at least one friend that I get to see at least once a month, I'm content, with or without technology. But once again, I'd honestly prefer to be on a computer than in a world without technology.

Yes it is always nice to spend time with friends. And I remember when there isn't any Internet and just using desktop at home. I always have the time to do other things or meet up with friends. Technology might have change us, but I guess if we really have no choice, we still can live with it =)

Everyone can certainly live without cell phones, computers, laptops, or the Internet. Very tragic, if there is someone, not wanting to continue living, or can not live without the stuff. Only, his life would be bored, without the stuff, if are already accustomed to using it. There are many people who could live well, without the stuff.
