So, have anyone done lay away in a retail store before, like Wal - Mart; Toys for Us; and Target, etc...... Such idea is about if you don't have enough cash right now to pay for a particular item that you want it to be a gift for someone special, you can deposit a down payment first, then every month, you come up some money to pay it against the remaining balance. The time frame is until December 20, for instance to pay the total price off. Otherwise, in Wal - Mart for instance, you can't come up the total price until December 20, they will refund all the money you already paid, minus $10 processing fee. So, what do you think, should it be a good idea for Christmas shopping who has limited source of income for gift?

Hi King, so far the retail stores in my country don't provide this type of service yet. If they do, it is indeed a good way to help those who have limited source of income, to be able to buy gifts of their choice. As for me, i think i won't be attract by this type of offer since i heard from some of my friends who ever bought their gift through this way, said that, the price of those items usually will go a little higher than those that you purchase directly. So, much better to save a portion from our own salary each month for buying expensive gifts and things that we needed.

One needs to be careful with layaway. I remember hearing a story on the news where one ends up paying more the item if they do layaway because of the hidden fees. Also, if one misses a payment the item goes back on the shelf and you end up paying a restocking fee. I save moneyt throughout the year and do my shopping in mid November or early December.

That is nice. Alot of people need to use layaway for Christmas. It really comes in handy so you can buy things before they are sold out.

I noticed that at Walmart. It's 15 dollars minimum per payment. It's on all toys and electronics. I think that's pretty cool and I hope it ups the economy this year putting more money in all of our pockets. I hope our dow sky rockets and we get out of debt this year, it sounds like a pipe dream according to the news, but maybe it'll be OK! :)

It is good for people who are short of money temporarily. In my country, there is no such service or rule. Maybe it will be accepted and turn popular in a couple of years. Anyway, it is a win-win rule.
