People at Yahoo Answers can be rude

So almost everytime I search on something, I get results leading to Yahoo Answers which I am not a member. Some questions can sound really silly sometimes, especially when it's about health, like they are posting about symptoms that they feel and were obviously fishing out for answers or testimonies....I mean, these questions can come from people who haven't the slightest idea about medical stuff and some people respond in a not-so-friendly, and sometimes, intimidating manner as if they know a lot! It irks me.
That's the difference between Yahoo answers and myLot. In myLot people are as polite as they can be and I find that really great. Thanks to the watchful admin as well.
Do you think Yahoo should have more regulation or some sort of etiquette watch or something? Or are you fine with the idea that you can say anything, rude or not?

I agree. I had been a member of yahoo answers for a couple of years and I saw lots of rude answers there. They don't take it seriously. They answer rudely and incorrect even if the person who asked the question was serious about the topic. I was a member on that site and I had a higher level because I love answering questions. But I got tired of it because yahoo answers are now full of rude people and spam answers. Good thing I discovered mylot. It's better than yahoo answers, and I can earn.

Oh they don't pay? The whole time I thought one could earn at Yahoo Answers. It wasn't a bad idea that I hesitated to join after all.

Yahoo answers don't pay their members for answering questions. They just made the point system to know who from the members are active in answering questions in yahoo answers. It actually felt good when I see that my level gets higher and higher everyday. But the site became a spam site and I got bored going there. It's a good thing you hesitated to join lol, Mylot is better.

I often wondered what was wrong with the many rude type and illogical type of responses I have seen at yahoo answers. Although I am not a member there, I too get related searches there and I often wonder why people spend their time assuring to simply be rude.
I would never pose a question there as I can't imagine some people specifically being so rude and not really sure why yahoo does not monitor such activity. If they do they do not do a good job at it. My guess is that anyone reading the results of their searches must be in shock sometimes.

I can almost feel what the "asker" must have felt, hoping probably to get empathetic responses but instead, had gotten all those nasty ones.
I could definitely put myself in that person's shoes because I too had the same problem...just didn't post it having gotten discouraged that people there don't take you seriously and think it's cool to be that way. Made me kinda hope it'd boomerang on them someday - being in a difficult situation and getting mocking responses in return.

it makes me more grateful that the myLot admin is as hands-on as they can. Sometimes, even freedom of expression should not be that "free".

I know exactly what you mean as there is a forum up in Triond the article writing site. When I was new I went to read and was so utterly
Then I went to the help center and heard the hundreds of complaints. The admins specifically stated they do not monitor the forum and members could not be controlled and free to post what they wanted.
This is appalling as it is still happening and I can only imagine a site like Yahoo that many feel it may be reputable to be receiving responses like that.
I too can relate to some of the questions in Yahoo and would have been devastated to get the responses I have seen.

You have made a good and valid comparison between the sites. I think people who need professional advice should go to professional sites, though. There are some other sites like Yahoo answers and I sometimes see that same rudeness factor come up. I am not a member of Yahoo answers and I give very little credence to things that are found there. There is no need for people to be rude on any site. It is not nice, professional or helpful.

One thing I also found is that the rude ones were the most ignorant ones. It makes me feel better that I am a nurse and has an idea what those stuffs are all about so I can tell which one really had something to say, and which one is just trying to sound smart.
It's great to know myLot. Kudos.

I think if you post a question there you are taking your ... well, maybe not life - unless you take their advice - but at least feelings in your hands
I'm not sure yahoo can really regulate the site - probably why the rude people can get away with their behavior...

How come I even get the feeling they're (the admin, if any) tolerating the rudeness. Makes me think it's what fuels the site. A little sick if you ask me.

I haven't seen much rudeness at Yahoo Answers, but there are a lot of clearly wrong answers given. I wonder if anyone checks for factual answers! I have also seen links given there to illegal software sites. Some sort of regulation is needed!

I agree with you that it is not a very reliable site to get accurate, honest and straight answers from. I also truly hate the fact that some people who are bothered about a health issue only get that sort of treatment.

Yes,that's true. Many people in yahoo answers are rude.At times they are not just rude.Sometimes they also post irrelevant answers. One time I asked about Zelda Skyward sword, but one member posted his referral link to a certain earning site. That really annoyed me.You are right.Mylot is a lot better because admins here works better.:

So I heard it's become a lounging area for spammers. Too bad and too sad.

My mother taught me to never be rude, no matter what. I have to confess that I sometimes forget, though.

i have encountered those, too, at Yahoo Answers. i think they really have to monitor that facility.
a large percentage of mylot members are generally polite. i am happy to be a member.

Yeah, I noticed that on Yahoo Answers. I sometimes use it when I'm looking up things in the swagbucks search engine, but other than that, I don't really use it.

I have noticed ghat too and I have seen pretty funny questions and answers on yahoo. Mylot is a much friendlier and more knowledgeable website where everyone is kindly willing to help everyone here. Everyone here is nice and supportive of each other. Yahoo doesn't really have much of a restriction and bored people just hang there, looking for questions they can be rude in just to evoke some laughs for themselves and others who happens to come across the question. But then again, people there ask really inappropriate and not so smart questions. They ask really common sense kind of type questions, pretty much they're not taking it seriously as well. So yahoo answers is sometimes treated as a joke but I occasionally ask questions but only maths questions because no one can joke about that. It's better to ask more personal or important questions here on Mylot!

Oh, I hate Math so I realize I just have no business going there at all! Unless maybe if I research and get something substantial from there, which rarely really happened in my experience.
