Weekends away or short breaks

I know that some people in my home country like to go away on the Friday evening and come back on the Sunday evening. That way they can spend two nights away from home in an interesting place. Another kind of short break can be Monday to Friday when it is a school half term. Then I can go further away to a different location. My best short break was in a February half term and I went to Bruges in Belgium. It is known as the Venice of the North with its canal streets. I liked seeing the beautiful old architecture. It snowed whilst I was there so it looked even more picturesque. Have you enjoyed any weekends away or short breaks? If you were given a choice to go which destination would you choose for a free trip?

Friend I want to break from mylot but not for weekend but for full next week and not for traveling but for offline working. Upcoming days will be very busy days for me because India's most famous festival Diwali is coming..

Hello my friend. I can't imagine having one week away from the Internet. I usually take my net book away with me on my trips to enjoy Internet whilst I am away. I have heard all about the festival of Diwali and hope it will go very well for you.

I love doing weekend getaways.. I think it is great to get away from it all even if it is just for a couple of days.. If I was offered a free trip my place I would want to go to is Italy.. But since I am from United States I would need that trip to be for 1-2 weeks

I would like to make my bored busy life rather colorful spending in somewhere that is not far away from home. There are several beauty spots in different hill tops here where the weather there are fresh and cold. All of them are great places with fascinating landscape to stay to escape from the blazing weather where we are all the year round Of course we would like to visit all of them alternately if we could

When myself and my husband go on short breaks we try and go mid week so it is quieter and therefore we see more of the sites with less crowds. Plus if I am paying for it ( as sometimes I get reduced or freebies from work), then it is cheaper to avoid travel on weekends.

I usually work seven days a week, but about I did go on two mini vacations in 2011. In June my husband and I went to Haderslev in south of Denmark and we spent two days there. We had a very nice time there. On the first day we walked around in Haderslev and we saw the church, the lake and a couple of other interesting places. The area around the lake was very beautiful. The next day we drove around in the area and we visited a castle and a park full of sculptures. In July we went on another mini vacation, this time we visited the north of Denmark and we spent two days in a town called Skagen. We visited an open air museum and a couple of other places.

I don't get away much anymore, I just don't have the energy or the money to do it too often. I have done weekends to Houston to see some friends, and took a week in May to go to Kansas... I like them both, but I really am just as happy recovering at home.

I had a short trip to Budapest at the beginning of March. It was freezing cold but we still did see, visit, do and walked a lot. If I could choose now for free I would go to Lanzarote, but since I am on my way (next week) to Hungary again this has to wait. BTW I would never think about Bruges (Belgium) as the Venice of the North (what do you mean by North?). Amsterdam is build on canals lot of water, Utrecht the same but what we see in the Netherlands as our Venice (more pitoresk) is Giethoorn.
