Hello MYLOTTERS, I have seen many people in INDIA wait for DIWALI to get their house white wash. Its been around 2 years when i had last white washed my house but when yesterday i asked it from my mother & my wife they answered on next Diwali. I was suprised and said why on DIWALI why not before and they were speechless. I know they had many answers in their mind but they were all illogical. What do you say friends???

Yearly once we have to clean our house, for that we need something ,a kind of a rule or something we should follow or make us follow. Some do white wash before Diwali, some do it for Sankranthi ,others for UGADI. These two festivals are celebrated grandly. So many indians do follow that, becasue it is a festival of lights. In india we have festivals whihc help us in many ways to keep us away from laziness and to get together with loved and dear ones. Indian culture has many secrets in it,should study well for an appropriate answer.Hope u get it.

Hello Uma, Oh yes we make rules with every festival and thats good to make ourself disciplined. Its not bad to fix whitewash of our houses on DIWALI or at any other festival as by doing so we at least do it once in a year otherwise God knows if we will do it or not.*hehehe*

Hi, You will definitely get logical, illogical, dil(logical), or even traditional replies. But whenever there is a need for whitewash we should go ahead as the 'maintenance' to house, furniture etc are also essential. People choose this festive time as the working class get the bonus during this time. But yes, it varies from State to State and festival to festival, at times the communities too. Let me wish your home fill with happiness, prosperity and all good fortune! Happy & safe diwali!

Hello Viju, I also think like you as we need to maintain our houses and we feel that in the festive seasons our house should look good thats why we do it during DIWALI and it varies state to state as every state has its own traditions.

yes its surprising that this context is related to Diwali in many houses.what i feel its mainly associated with cleaning of the house.if one decide to get the house painted, then its obvious that each corner of the house would be clean.so its mostly associated with Diwali as nobody wants a messy house during Diwali.

Hello Khare, I also think as we always want our houses to remain good and beautiful during festive season and DIWALI is one of the biggest festival celebrated in whole north INDIA so people do that before DIWALI.
