I have said in one of my discussions, about Diwali the festival of fireworks, so as usual all rooms were cleaned; unused items were disposed off and all walls, ceiling were cleaned and painted with best quality emulsion paint. Today I discovered that Subhee has spoiled one wall of the drawing room, using colored pencils and nail polish, she has written all alphabets, numbers from 1 to 50 on that wall; not only that she has drawn some figures, when asked she said they were fish, mango etc; she learnt in school.
Well it would be difficult to get the wall repainted now, even if it is done it won’t match with rest of the walls, so hubby says , let it be like that, we will take a photo of this and show it later to Subhee, when she grows up, I too liked this idea of Professor. While Subhee was sitting on his lap this morning, he showed the wall to her and explained her not to do in future; he never scolds any of our kids or grandkids. Scolding usually doesn’t work, persuading is always better.
What is your opinion; do you scold your kids?
How you handle them?
Please respond, share and comment.

I like that way of handling things. It really doesn't do any good to get angry. I don't have kids of my own so I really don't know what works and doesn't work. It really is better to just have a rational discussion and explain why something is wrong or what is expected so that they can grasp the idea and know why it is not good to do something. Thanks for sharing this.

I think that there are some times that you need to scold children, but those times are limited to when they are either putting themselves or other people in danger. Otherwise, I think talking to children on a level that they can understand is a much better way of getting children to do the right thing.
They will learn to listen better if you are able to talk to a child like they are a small person instead of acting like they don't understand anything that is going on.

dear maa,
I can imagine how does it looks, Shubees drawings and everything.
I am sure the walls and the room looks great with her drawings
Oh, i am guilty of this maa, I did scold my kids especially when I am too mad and angry.
But, I make sure to explained to them the reason why I was angry and tell them their mistakes and not to do same thing again.
Take care and hugs to you and pa..kisses to Shubee
