What would "YOU" do?

We live in an age where electrical gizmos rule our lives.
Electric stoves, furnaces, phones, lights... The list of stuff is endless.
But what if something happened?
What if it all went away or stopped working?
WHAT WOULD YOU DO? HOW WOULD YOU LIVE?

The day is surely coming when we will all be put to this test, I think. We have enough canned and nonperishables here to last a few days. Got plenty of blankets and clothing to bundle up and keep warm for a limited time. But should the power be gone for an extended time, I think it will be up to everyone to come together in groups to make it through. Food could be cooked on the gas and charcoal grills but some would not have these so it would be necessary for "share and care" time. Collectively, neighborhoods could survive.

No. No back up plan, and even if you did, it would be really short term. How long would you live?
Couple weeks? Couple months? A year? Or many years?
The nice stuff you have now, would be gone in only a couples weeks max.
Make a plan. Join boy scouts. Learn how to make a fire. You will need this.

I would hope I'd be able to survive. We have coal heat here, so we are used to building fires to keep warm. It would certainly be an adjustment to not have electricity but it's been done before and people have survived. The same with cooking food really. It surely would be harder but I think that people can do it. Of course there are some that are so spoiled by technology that are going to have a hard time adjusting.

I guess I'd have to go back to living like they did back in the Pioneer days. I have to admit, it'd be a hard thing to do, seeing as I like using all the gadgets we have nowadays. But like anything I'd probably learn to adjust...even though I wouldn't want to.

I have a gas stove, water heater and fireplace... and a lot of candles stashed away.

AHA...Mike, you forgot you would get one responder that grew up in the Chilcotin where "electricity" didn't exist, and one walked thru life, by the seat of their pants! AND NOW, this soul, lives on an Island, with minimal population...so when the power goes out...LAST on list of restoration!
ELECTRIC STOVE--Cook top Wood heater! WATER---35,000 gallons stored, and gravity fed..NEVER out! FURNACE---once again, only heat by wood (and I think there is enough on this Island, to last my lifetime---and I have 7 cords in the woodshed!)
TELEPHONE--it works with the power out! LIGHTS--I have 3 Coal Oil lamps, 1 Coleman Lantern...and a whole box of emergency candles!
And worse, comes to worse, when the power is out for the usual 5 to 10 days, every second day, I just fire up the 6500 Watt Kubota Generator, my son gave me for Xmas, 6 years ago! Give myself a burst of light, charge up the freezers!
OH...You betcha...I have plenty of Fuel (back up, on hand) I could live quite vicariously for 2 months +...without a "blimp!"
AND do...a lot of reading, knitting, pergamano...knowing I dodged this curve ball!

I do very little on FB..but you do have my name, add me to your friend's list and we shall link there!
As much as you would like to put the enema hose in Southern B.C., Fall, so far hasn't lived up to it's name...the WET Coast!
Give me some guidance here for the next provincials, please..some of your stoic input! Once again...many thanks BCR!
