The dead deserves respect

In the Philippines, November 1 is a legal holiday. It is a day intended for Filipinos to go to cemeteries and offer flowers and light candles for the dead. Personally, I believe that the dead, would not know anymore, these things that are being done for them. No matter how many and beautiful the flowers and the candles that are made available for this particular day for the dead, the dead will never know and feel these gestures anymore. I go to visit to pay respect. They may never know but I have to go and visit. I would love to do it as frequent but I am a living being busy with life and the things in it. Time is not of luxury. Do you have the same 'celebration' in your country? If you are a Filipino, what do you do for this particular day?

Honestly i feel the same thing as yours. I go to the cemetery to visit our departed loved ones whenever i have spare time. I rarely buy flowers nor candles because i believe they dont need them. but if i can, i try to buy some flowers to put on the tomb, my reason is, so that when our relatives comes there they will see it and they will think that we've come there to visit.

Where I come from, people do go to visit the grave but not on a specific date.

In China, we call it "Tomb-sweeping Day". And since 2010, it has become a national festival, which means everyone in my country can take a break on that day. Speak of the festival, there is a story about it. Tomb-sweeping Day was just a traditional holiday in China, which was not very popular. Yet as South Korea succeeded to apply "Dragon Boat Festival(a festival originated from China)" as its historical heritage, the government of China realized the importance of traditional culture and started to cherish other traditional culture, including festivals. Joke apart, on Tomb-Sweeping Day, we go to the deceased family's tombs, sweep the tombs and sacrafice our relations with flowers. There may exist other activities in different areas.

My daughter and I will visit my father's grave at the memorial and pray for his soul and peace. The whole family will be there too so I guess it will be a kind of family day as my father love having family celebration when he is still alive. We will share the whole day with him there.

we do that, too, as my husband is practicing it. the Bible does not tell about praying for the souls though.
