Were protesters throwing bottles and rocks at police before the police resorted to anti riot tactics?
Um... yeah!
Guess what, if you throw stuff at police, they aren't required to limit their response to throwing the same things back. They are required to reduce the threat to themselves and innocent bystanders.
So um.. don't throw stuff at police!!!

No, actually the incompetent press keeps perpetuating the lie that all the protesters are innocent victims.

The people protesting are not the amazing freedom fighters they pretend to be. A lot of these people are protesting and showing racist, antisemitic signs etc... I am in agreement with equal rights and insider trading needs to be brought to a halt etc but these protests are just lame. Attacking police in the name of justice?

I think that many of them ARE the freedom fighters they "pretend" to be... I also think they aren't the problem.

Ya know, I think that a good amount of these people really are following along for a cause they strongly believe in and are peaceful. The ones that came to my area were for the most part very respectful. But then the Free Staters decided to join up with them along with a local wannabe gang that call themselves the Juggalos. Marching down the middle of Main St. on a busy Sat. afternoon and holding up traffic accomplished nothing more than irritating people. It only takes a few to act up and things get out of control and all too often it's an innocent person that gets hurt. Then again, even the innocent bystander must know there is always a risk when gathering like this. I know that if I had a mind to join one of these protests, I'd be at risk for getting caught in the crossfire of some idiot acting out. I was told that the ones that started these protests are from Canada and that many of the originals are Canadian. They do have a facebook page but not sure how true that is but seems odd. I don't know. I just can't get into these protests regardless of whether their cause is good or not. There just has to be a better and safer way.

To comment on this really quick yes police do have a right and responsibility to use force especially if force is being used against them (The throwing bottles and other objects at them) So this seems to be making more since with the Occupy Oakland and why the police responded the same way.
I have been to the Occupy Portland events. So far no one has done anything of this nature and the Occupy Portland leadership which does exist has made sure that the crowd knows that the police will respond if violence is used against them so far the local one has been keeping with the Gandhi version of how you create change by civil disobedience and the avoidance of using violence again. They also last night got an agitator to stop yelling at the police to bring it.
As for the persons comments. The police have to use that level of force in fact they went to less than lethal use of force now during this whole thing a Veteran was shot in the head with a Bean Bag round which isn't suppose to happen as in they aren't suppose to aim for the head with a Bean Bag or Rubber Bullet round because of how fragile the head of a person is.

Throwing bottles or rocks at police will be the same like attacking police with other weapon, it is the same here if you you will be sue if you throw things to police and you will also get the same if you insulting polices with vulgar words. So, do think twice before any action.
