Hello there!
Recently I became conscious on what I eat, this time as much as possible I avoid eating meat and try other alternatives. Slowly but hopefully in due time I will get used to it.
Do you think being a vegetarian has lots of advantages than disadvantages? Is it expensive to become a vegetarian?
Thanks!

There are two kinds of vegetarian: 1, the pure vegetarian who eats everything organic like fruits and vegetable ; 2 the ovo vegetarian is the one who eats organic as well as eating eggs, and other dairy products, like cheese & milk.
If you choose to be a vegetarian, you should plants some vegetable in your backyard. My mom plants some springs onions, celery, bitter gourd, malabar nightshade, etc. Planting herbs & vegetable in your backyard could lessen your expenses. Because being vegetarian is a little bit expensive.

Because milk and milk products came from cow, which is animal product. That's why it's non-veg. Except from Soy milk, which comes from soybeans.

Hello Pink Hawk 7. I became vegetarian at age 14 years old due to my sister telling me where meat came from. It is very easy to be a vegetarian but it is harder to be a vegan which is what I am now.
I think that a vegetarian diet is very healthy and natural. With it you can drink cows milk, eat vegetarian cheese, have free range eggs and eat honey. You will be able to eat fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds.
If you eat out it will be easy to get a vegetarian meal. You will get more well and happy. You will spend less money than a meat eater very likely. I suggest you have a look in your local health food shop for meal ideas.
Good luck with becoming a vegetarian and it will be a healthy and ethical choice.

It is not hard to become a vegetarian. It is a matter of choice of a person to become wise on choosing what to eat and to practice healthy lifestyle by eating fruits and vegetables.I am a vegetarian for how many years until now it is not expensive to become one because with just a small amount of vegetables you consume you can save enough money because their is still vegetables left for the next meal.

very good!!!! great initiative it is. being a vegetarian is always beneficiary.. once you stop eating non-veg you feel very light from inside. you will be free from so many problems and diseases. from health point of view vegetarian food is far better than any non-veg food except some exte4nt fish and even it is not so expensive..

Meat being one of the most expensive ingredients in cooking, going Vegetarian for economic reasons is one option for you..Or you could be doing it for concerns over Animal welfare,or for your weight or from a healthy eating perspective..there are many reasons you might choose to go Veggie,so hopefully one of them will work out for You...

If you want to become vegetarian, I would do this slowly because I did this the wrong way... One day I was eating meat and the next I wouldn't eat any of it. After a couple of months, I started to feel listless and quite exhausted. My body was not coping at the speed at which I did it. But it was too late then, as it took years for my body to settle down again, and the fatigue still catches up with me to this day. I had to go back to eating fish and some meat products because my system was best suited to meat eating. I went to a food doctor and he told me about how my DNA, inherited down my family line was sort of conditioned to a certain diet, and not everybody was the same. Some people can switch to vegetarianism, with no problems very quickly, but most will have some ill effects. So I would experiment slowly and not be in too great a hurry to change your diet drastically. If you can find a food doctor, all the better. Good luck.. _Derek

I think is not as expensive because the meat is more, and dosn't give the quantity of proteins that the vegetables give you.
My father is vegetarian and at his 74 he is healthy, no diabetes, or high cholesterol,or prostate problems,or obesity, he is only 149 pounds,so I think being a vegetarian is the best you can do,I don't like eating meat eaither, I cook meat because my husband love eating meat, but I don't eat it, and my son either.

Being vegetarian is good.It is not too expensive to be vegetarian. It has many advantages, but it has some disadvantages.
Being vegetarian is good because vegetables have many vitamins and minerals in them, but if you eat only vegetables you may have protein deficiency.Vegetables has no protein because it is only found in meats.:)

I know only one disadvantage of being vegetarian - when you visit friends who cook meat, you might be in trouble. But if you are lucky, they understand it (i know i'm vegetarian too...)
If you are conscious about what you eat, you will get enough of the nutrients that your body needs. Lack of protein is not common, but iron is important for example.
Being vegetarian is not at all more expensive than eating meat, it can be the same or even cheaper. Of course if somebody eats organic food only then it's very expensive, not everyone can afford that.

Oh no! it's not at all costly to be a vegetarian!!! I can't compare between veg and non veg food as I've been a vegan since birth. But of course there is no disadvantage of being a vegetarian if you eat nutritious and healthy food to make up for the energy in meat n fish

wow, that's really nice pinkhawk..i wish I could do that. but i really love meat a lot.. I tried to be one before but I failed. I was tempted to eat meat when we go out with my friends and family. But for sure you'll have a healthier lifestyle. Be healthy! Does vegetable make you fat? not right? So, I am thinking to practice that one too someday. I need to be on a diet i guess. And i want to live a healthy lifestyle. Health is the most important thing of all.

Very good. It has more advantages than disadvantages. Vegetables are cheap and can also be grown in a garden also. meat is being produced more in factory farms where the poultry and other animals like pigs are reared in an unhealthy way and being injected with harmful antibiotics and these farms also spread diseases like swine flu. so it is safe to become a vegetarian. have a healthy life.

I think this does not depend on the vegetarian food or something else. IT depends only on the food nutritious food you are taking. So try to have a healthy diet as possible as you can.

I tried to become a vegetarian about a year ago. A friend of mine, who is vegetarian, says that you have to 'convert' yourself gradually so your body would get used to it. She advised me to do away with pork first since that is the unhealthiest among the bunch. I managed to not eat pork for months so I stopped eating beef. However, I just cannot resist the temptation and I can't see myself not eating chicken or derivatives of chicken for the rest of my life. So now I'm back to eating whatever I want. I guess I still don't have enough motivation to be a full blooded vegetarian.
Converting yourself into a vegetarian takes a lot of discipline so I salute everyone who capable of doing this . I personally don't think being a vegetarian is costly, especially here in the Philippines. You do not have to buy salads in restaurants all the time. We have a lot of fresh vegetables that contains high nutrition and is not expensive. Some of these are Kangkong (river spinach), Okra, Sigarilyas (Winged Beans) and Malungay (Horse Radish). You could replace your rice with healthier alternatives that are high in fiber like corn.
Good luck to you pinkhawk. I hope you'll be successful in converting yourself into a vegetarian.

I would prefer been a vegetarian on the medical ground. Otherwise, you need full protein for recovery and body building especially during illness. If I were you, I would go for moderate white meat rather than red meat. Depending on the type of veg, it can be quite expensive.
