Are all our actions in life pre destined ?Or is it just a chain reaction?

Many religious scriptures and texts are of the opinion that everything in life is pre destined .However, I find that hard to believe simply because our maker wouldn't plan or let people do and get away with things like murder, terrorism, torture, corruption etc etc.I tend to believe that life is just a chain reaction.Like for example, when we throw a stone into a pool there are ripples and when we throw many stones at the same time, there are many ripples all of which have some effect or the other on each other...similarly in life every event tends to effect us either within our family or outside ... Friends, what do you all feel about this ?Please add your views...

I believe that all of us have pre-ordained destinies but how we get there isn't carved in stone yet. We have choices. We have different paths that we can take but in the end we will reach the same destination that has been written for us.

Hi Uminoor, Thanks a lot for sharing your views Ultimately what matters is the faith and belief that people have - like they say faith can move mountains, if you believe in something that becomes the truth of one's life - all the best and happy mylotting

Kiran! I feel that all our actions are predestined. I agree with your stone imagery though I wish to add my own interpretaton to it. Whether you throw a stone, throw many stones or do not throw a stone at all are predestined actions. SImilarly whether you are going to be in the vicinity where a stone is going to hit you also is a predestined action. THere are many human beings in the drama of life and the thinking and action of each individual has an impact on another; here it does become a chain reaction , be it in family or in society. In life every event does affect another person concerned but if you go to the origin of the event you would realise it is beyond your control. THis tracing is possible in narrow circles but in society or the world at large it is even more difficult. What goes around comes around; true. but why did this have to go around? Therein is the action predestined.

I am catching up late . Just being satisfied with the thought thta what has to happen will happen keeps our peace of mind intact Kiran! However, we have to make all efforts at anything and do all the groundwork before we take any important decision. We cannot hide behind this 'destiny' business because as stipulated in the GIta, we are born to do our duty and do work without attachment to the results. When we convince ourselves thta the results are in GOd's hands the disappointemtns are less.

I agree kala, that in life it is sometimes better to accept rather than question. However, as you rightly say we have to do what we have to do and not fall back or take refuge on destiny or karma ...One can only do so much within ones capacity, so...

Hi kala, thanks a lot for your views I suppose each of us is trying to get to the root of this thing called destiny and as we try we also get different view points.Somehow, religious beliefs and destiny are connected ...I for one am not religious so tend to look for other explanations ...I do agree that certain things defy any logic and one can only think up something within a certain sphere of knowledge ...Hope all ok with you kala, am sure that you are totally occupied by the little fellow enjoy your weekend

It is not true every religion are of the opinion that everything in life is pre-destined. Our life journey is always in a dynamic state rather than static stage. Whatever activity we do daily accumulate, add or substrate from our original amount of 'karma' charting the future path of our destiny in present earthly life and beyond. Life itself is a big circle constantly turning, where mankind only constitute a tiny part of this big revolving circle of universal truth, nothing is pre-destined or pre-determined by the true maker of our universe, each man will get and receive from whatever deed and action he had done during his life jouirney, a hand that plant a bad seed, will receive rotten fruit, or vice versa, it is all a fair game as far as our action go, you can call it chain-reaction, or ripple phenomenon, or domino effect, which ever it is, the end result is the same for everyone and in every where.

That is really not the case, certain religions preach that life is pre-destined and pre-determined by our maker. That is why some of these followers can go out to kill and maim whoever disagree with them, and carry out all sorts of evil acts, because they are being taught from young as long as they believe in the same religion, their destiny is fixed no matter how much evil they can unleash during their life time. Karma has no influence on their fate and final destination in life. Go figure...

Food for thought ! If one thinks that since everything is predestined and he/she can do what he/she wants and there is no stopping him/her ....scary !! Misguided missiles being used by manipulative religious fanatics, what else can one say?

Hi lampar, different religions have different teachings , but finally they all seem very similar and most of them lay stress on destiny. ....each man will get and receive from whatever deed and action he had done during his life jouirney, a hand that plant a bad seed, will receive rotten fruit, or vice versa, ...- I tend to agree with this view, it is an action getting a reaction ! Thanks a lot for your response ,All the best and have a nice day

hi kiran! i believe that we are destined for something but we are to do some actions so we reach to that destiny. sometimes there are just certain things that no matter how hard we pursue to reach it we never can it's because it was not meant for us. i hope you get my point friend. it's a matter of acting to reach everything you want. but not everything you want will be given.it is because you are not destined for it.

Hi shanemae, thanks a lot for your responseI do get your point and I agree with you.I feel that once we analyse our strength and weaknesses it becomes easier to pursue whatever is within our reach... luck also plays a part , which sometimes is very difficult to explain. The things you give up as lost causes , suddenly come within your reach and one simply cannot understand how it happened - all the best and have a nice weekend

I think you are correct kiran8. No one can tell if our lives are predestined and neither can anyone prove it. The ripple effect is a practical view of how the world goes. It's pretty simple to understand. There's a cause, there's an effect.

Hello Kiran ji. indeed it is matter of beliefs. So who beliefs in super power who control all of us they beliefs that what we are and what we will be predetermined. Only the super power make us. But super power never come before us. They do all thing from ourself. Our deeds are will of super power. And our deed decide what we will be in our life.

Hi anil, ultimately it comes down to what one believes in ...If an individual thinks that every action is pre determined, so be it, people find every explanation leading to that belief .Similarly when you argue against such a belief, one can find many things that support such a belief... In life , according to me what matters is how well we are able to fight odds and keep afloat...It is never easy and one has to face conflicts and hurdles at every level and that is what make people believe in destiny and karma since it becomes easier to accept and move on ...

It is a form of chain reaction. Though not that much. I think it's more like a tree.. or more like a particle of water going through a tree to the top. You come up from the roots to the trunc and you have a big tunnel and so many ways and choices.. then you "grow up" and gotta choose from one of those big branches.. then so on from one of those other smaller branches. you can't ever go back sadly. you can only look forward and try to guide your way although looking from the inside you'll never be able to see your point of reach.. until you get to a tip where you find either a leaf that falls and has it's purpose or for very very few of us a flower-fruit that seeds and grows other trees that other particles of water would help grow.. yes, we are that small but have so much purpose in life and the big picture. it's all random and it is based on free will but it's a blind free will because we don't REALLY know what our choices will bring out in our future. but somehow it all fits in a cycle that repeats just in other forms. That is the way of nature.

Hi ramonah, thanks a lot for sharing your viewsI like the example you have given about tree , water and choices.I too revere and place immense faith in nature which to me is the ultimate.Basically, life is action and reaction and this being a continuous process again sets forth more actions and reactions... all the best and enjoy your weekend

I think it's both. I know it's confusing when you try to understand it but i really think it's both. I mean, it's like a magazine quiz where you try to find out what kind of personality you have. You are given a series of questions then a bunch of answers then those answers would lead you to another questions and so on and so forth until you reach the end of the quiz and find out what your personality is. The cycle itself is the chain reaction, however, the choices/answers you are given are pre-destined. :D I hope I got the point across. :D

Hi loidee, thanks a lot for your responseI do get your point. There are times when we ourselves are surprised by our reactions to certain things in life.We are constantly discovering and rediscovering others and ourselves in life - all the best and happy mylotting

I've talked about this with a lot of religious and non-religious folk. The best answer I've heard from a religious person is that God has given every person free-will, but knows how each person will act because he created them, and so can make his plans for the future accordingly. I believe in no God, and therefor that every person has free will and can do whatever they want. I think that the chain reaction, as you described, is a very good way to put it. Every action affects other people, despite whether or not they know it. A good way to see that is like the idea of "paying it forward."

Hi conrad, thanks a lot for sharing your views What you say makes sense, but in life certain things are difficult to explain...luck for instance. To give an example :- someone known to me had been living in poverty all her life ,widowed, with no means and no steady earning except a meagre pension. Now, she is 61 years old and her 2 children are grown up and settled in life.Last year, she was contacted by a lawyer who gave her the news that she had been left with an old house and plot of land in the city of Chennai by her husband's brother who had no children. She sold it for a little more than 2 crore rupees and you can imagine how her life has changed. She is literally floating now LOL...
