All in all is all we are?

I love Nirvana and and all of their songs. Most of the lyrics of their song have very deep meaning, but this one part of the song "all apologies" I really don't understand what kurt is trying to say. Do you know or at least have an idea what does "all in all is all we are" means?

I think it means that we are just who we are. There should be no apologies and people are who they are. I think he is feeling bad for the way he is. He is so deep and could write what he really feels about this but doesn't feel he has the right. So he is apologizing for not being the kind of person who could.

People need to be proud of who they are and not feel like they need to change for others. That is sad.

I think he feels like he's compromising his personality to be accepted by people around him or it's the other way around, he want to change for people he love but he just can't change because he is what he is (we are who we are) and he felt bad about that.

Uhm you haven't heard of Nirvana? It's one of the greatest band of all time and it's very popular in the 90s maybe you are too young to know about it, by the way If you are into rock music you will definitely like Nirvana.

I love music but I don't like the Nirvana trend. We have different styles and tastes when it comes to music. Sorry I can't help you with this song...

I think "all in all is all we are" means that's just the way we are... I don't think that Cobain's song lyrics are "deep"... I think it is just "clouded".. I LOVE Nirvana, I used to play most of their songs (guitar) back in the 90's.. AND I still love them now, and I one of my fave band now is Foo Fighters! Do you like Foo Fighters too?

For me it is deep in a way that many people can't easily understand what he meant in the songs he wrote. Yeah I love Foo too my favorite songs from them are "Best of You", "Walking After You", "Times like this" and another one that I always forget the title. How bout you?

I think I would agree with you he's too artistic and maybe he felt like he doesn't belong here or something like that.

Of coarse there is always room for interpretation, but what I get from that song and specifically that line is that we are nothing more than a total of all our life experiences. We are not our net worth, we are not our jowbs, we are not the clothes we wear. We are the events that have shaped our personalities and nothing more. But that is just me. I also love nirvana and have been a fan for a long time. I would be interested to hear what other people think.

I'm glad to get a response from someone who love nirvana too. And your interpretation is good for me maybe he is implying that what we are is who we are and we should not pretend to be someone else and just be yourself no more no less. By the way what is your favorite Nirvana song?
